Need recommendation for Telescope

What to get my 7 yr old a telescope for Christmas, I dont have a clue on where to begin.

Dont want to spend more than 250.00 I guess and of course want to it be good quality.

I looked at toysrus.com but they all received bad reviews.

Do you have a local astronomy club that you can contact for suggestions?

When I went looking for a telescope a good while back from all the reading I did, it was basically said the last place to buy a good telescope is a big box store.

My parents ended up getting me one as a birthday gift. I think they got it from Kohls. The eye lens pieces were pretty cheap(as in not good quality). Images were fuzzy. I ended up going to a hobby store to buy some quality eye lens pieces(close to 100/each) which ended up making the images much more sharp and the telescope more usable.

That is a good idea, in fact if he loves it as much I think he will, we may have to join Astronomy club if we have one in the area.
