I am looking for a good walking sandle.
Can anybody recommend a brand worth trying?
Thanks,

Sandra

Try out the Nike Deschutz (I might have spelled that wrong!). It has the great, supportive Nike sole and waterproof everything. It's worked very well for me. --H

PS - definitely try several brands well before your trip. I tried the Tevas (based on so many recommendations here and on other boards) and they just didn't fit me very well. The straps hit my feet at a funny place. The Eccos didn't fit my budget!

I also have a very comfy one from NaturalSport (or something like that) They have it at Shoes.com

I love Tevas for walking. Not the base model ones but the ones that I have are called "inversion" they have a little more sole. When I walk in these I am able to go as fast and for as far as when I have on my sneakers but my feet are much cooler. I have had serious orthopedic problems and these never cause me trouble.

wearegoingtodisney,
I had heard of Teva's but didn't know much about them.
I have had a bit of knee trouble and it was highly recommeded that I invest in a good pair of walking shoes, I prefer to wear sandles.
Thanks for mentioning this brand and that they are a good orthopedic shoe.

Another loud vote for Teva's.
Birkenstocks are good too. Most are not waterproof though.

Teva's have been great for me. They have been the most comfortable sandal I have ever owned.

I've had my teva's since i was 12 and Have walked near and far in them. (i'm almost 18 now). They are very comfortable...my dad had teva's for our second trip to disney back in '96 or '97 and just got rid of them this year.

I love my Merrills. I have ones that are backless and they are the most comfortable shoes to wear all day long.

I also used to have a pair of Nike leather sandals, but alas I threw them out after I wore the soles out after about 8 trips to Disney and 4 years of walking. I don't think they make these anymore, but those things were molded perfectly for my feet!

I just bought a pair of Birkenstocks. How long does it take to break them in?

Another vote for TEVAS!!!! I've had a few pair in the last 10 years (wore out a base model pair and my dog ate my very favorites a few years ago!!!). I would not go anywhere without them! I also recommend getting a model other than the base models which do not have much of a sole to them. The "Pretty Rugged" models are very good!

I got to say that the last time I was at Disney I was on my honeymoon. I got blisters from the shoes I wore to my wedding rehursal and my feet were in agony by the time of my last dance. I had to keep switching shoes and ended up in sandals of "slides" most of the week.

My Birkenstocks were great, really comfy but they were already well broken in.

However I work in a cement floor where I stand for 9 hours a day and I got to say that my 3 pairs of Skechers are the most comfortable shoes that I have ever had. I have a pair that are those "slide" 1/2 shoes that Im wearing most of the time Im there. ( Does anyone else plan out there wardrobe before they go?)

I also on Merrel sandals (ok Im a shoe-a -holic) and they are great too..

But Skechers are the best in my shoe opinion

I love my Birkenstocks.

I'm a nurse, and have 2 pairs for work, along with 3 pairs of sandals.

It does take a while to get used to them. My sandals seemed to take less time than my clogs. There are several different types of Birkenstocks though. My sandals are Birkies. I actually wore them at MK, 2 days after getting them, and had no problem, but I wouldn't reccomend that, if you've never worn them. Try wearing them around the house a few hours a day, at first.

My DH swears by his Tevas. It took me several years, and finding a pair on clearance to convince him, but now he loves them.

Another vote for Merrills. I have been to Disney numerous times, and they are by far the best sandals I have ever had.

Oh, the Berkies are the ones that I just bought! I just put them on today, and I feel like they need breaking in. My trip is in May, so I should have plenty of time to do that! Thanks. :cool1:

Thanks so much for all the replies. . .

Unfortunately we live in a small town and I won't have time to look for shoes in Edmonton, before flying to Orlando.

I was wondering if someone could tell me what stores sell Merrell's or Tevas?
I noticed there is a Birkenstock store.

Thanks,

Sandra :cool1: . . . 10 more days to go!
