Need prayers and good thoughts for Kevin's Mom today * Update 5/8/11*

Kevin,

To you and your family....I'm so glad you have at least a little more time to share with your Mom. That is all too precious, and I know you will cherish and remember this for all the rest of your days. Take care of yourself, rest, and know that you have so much love and support from so many people, all over the world.

Dealing with my own aging parents and their medical care, it becomes increasingly obvious that one hand does not know what the other is doing.

There is an *appalling* lack of communication between Dr.'s and nurses and everyone involved in between.

That's why everyone reading this MUST take matters into their own hands.

You have to FIGHT every step of the way to make sure your loved one is receiving the proper care.

Take notes. Stay informed. Write down the name of the professional you are talking to, and don't be afraid to speak up if something doesn't make sense to you, or a Dr. appears to be brushing off your questions like you're talking about getting the oil changed in your car.

It's a shame that things have come to this in our medical community, but they have.

You have to stand and fight for the proper care for those you love.

Our love and prayers go out to you and your Mom, Kevin.

ITA with this post :thumbsup2

Hoping for the best news for Kevin and his mom

What an awesome gift Kevin! I know it goes without saying you're treasuring this time.

Continually praying for you!

My brother and I spoke with the Hospice doctor this morning.

We have been told that my Mom's condition is so poor that we should stop her treatment and let her pass peacefully.

We have decided to follow his advice.

Nothing in my life has been this difficult.

Please keep my Mom in your prayers.

Words cannot express my deepest sadness for you and your family. I'm sure this will be an awful time for you. What a terribly difficult decision to have to make, but I am sure that you and your family are doing what is best for your mom. I can only hope that the many wonderful memories of your mom and the time you have left with her will help you through this. Your family is in my prayers.
It sure says a lot that there are so many people here that are praying with you. What an amazing community!

Kevin,

I'm so happy that it appears your mom is doing better and that your family has been blessed with the gift of time. Also, I hope it comforts you to know that by sharing your story you and your mom have given a gift to everyone on this board. I bet alot of us remembered to tell someone how much they mean to us. I know I called my mom as soon as I read your earlier post to tell her I love her. I will continue to pray for your mom's recovery.

Most peaceful and loving thoughts to your family at this time. We just went through a very similar situation with my husband's grandfather. You have the biggest support system anyone ever had and we're all here for you guys. xoxoxo

So glad to hear your mother has rallied. I'm a science kind of gal, but these unexpected and seemingly unexplainable moments in life are simply amazing. This week, my Dad was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer. I find myself begging for just a little more time and a miracle. I would treasure any glimmer of hope, as I know you are doing now. Good thoughts to you all.

Kevin, It was great to hear the good news and will keep your mom, you and john in our thoughts and prayers

Kevin, I am so happy to hear this.

It's also brought some clarity to my own situation. My dad, who is only 54 years old, was diagnosed out of the blue on Friday with stage 4 stomach cancer, which has metastasized to his liver. To say we are devastated is the understatement of the century. He was the picture of health, complained of a stomach ache, went to the doctor, and now we are faced with making decisions we never wanted to make. We are heartbroken.

Your message today has filled me with hope - not that we will get a miraculous recovery, though we would love it if did, but that we still have time, and that we still have memories to make and things to say to each other. I pray that I am able to handle the coming months with even a portion of the grace that you have shown in facing this situation with your mom.

My thoughts and prayers are with you - and we'd appreciate any you could send our way too. :grouphug:

I am so sorry for your family's news. I wish you strength.

... What most of us wouldn't give to have 1 last day with our loved ones to spend just telling how much they mean to us. You have truly been blessed. We never know what the future holds. Many of us lose loved ones quickly & never have that chance to tell them what much that they mean to us.

Amen! We just lost my husband's brother last week, very unexpectedly (age 53), and no one had a chance to say goodbyes. I am trying to work it in to my daily life to let people know what they mean to me and how much I appreciate them. You just never know when you will no longer have the chance.

Kevin, I hope your Mom's health stays stable now for a good long time.

Kevin, I hope today was another good day...will continue to keep you all in my prayers.

I always make sure that I tell my DH, DS, & DD that I love them as we all leave to start our day. We never know what the day will bring so that is important to me that if something happened to me, they would know that I love them & could treasure my last words

What a wondrous turn of events. Glad you got some extra time with your Mom and put it to good use. Val & I hope for the best for your Mom, you and John.

Kevin, I'm happy that your mom has rallied a bit, and am praying that her recovery continues.

My thoughts and heart goes out to you, your brother, John and your family.
