Thumper managed to get himself out of his cage today and got tangled up in a plastic Disney Store bag I had under my bed. :earseek: It was really wrapped tightly around his back leg and I have no clue as to how long he was caught. :( I noticed the leg was a little swollen so I held him and placed an ice bag on the leg. Well, that made the swelling three times as bad!! He doesn't seem to be in any pain (as I sit here typing, he is sitting in the pet bed eatting Rice Krispies;) ) but the swelling really concerns me. Anyone know of the proper thing to do to relieve swelling aside from the ice?

Please send pixie dust if you can spare Thumper a moment of your time! (and send a little for me to help me get over the extreme guilt I am feeling right now.............:guilty: :worried:  )

DH said to elevate it. ;) (I didn't tell him it was for a rabbit. :p )

PD to Thumper! :D

Poor Thumper.

Is he walking alright otherwise? If so, I would try not to worry too much.

Colleen, you are a very good bunny mommy. There is no way you would neglect that baby. Accidents happen sometimes. All you can do is try to prevent it from happening again.

It sounds like Thumper wanted to do some exploring and is smart enough to figure things out. He got out once, he will try again. I'd try to make sure he couldn't.

Does his foot feel cold relative to his other feet?

Ohhh, I hope Thumper is okay!! Pixie dust coming your way!

I just checked his foot............the temperature feels the same as the other 3 do. He's not really hopping around too much at the moment. I think his adventure scared him a little bit. He is sitting quietly in his pet bed. The leg seems to move ok....it just looks so much bigger than the other back foot. :earseek: I can squeeze it and he doesn't react like it hurts or anything.

I swear, this 'hare' is giving my fair share of gray ones!!

That is good. My concern would be that the bag cut off circulation to his leg and caused it to die but if his foot is warm that isn't an issue. What a pesky little rabbit! ;)

I would think he will be fine, Colleen, just probably a bit shok up, scared. You're a good mom, no gulit there. Let us know how he is hopping in the morning.

PD for your bunny! :wizard:

If he doesn't yelp or try to move around when you squeeze his foot, and it doesn't feel cold, he's probably ok. You also said he's sitting quietly - my vet told me once a good idication of pain in an animal is that they move around a lot. So you have a lot going in your favor.

Don't feel guilty about anything - it was an accident. You sound like a very good bunny mom to me, especially since you're so concerned. Pets have a way of getting where they're not supposed to no matter how much we watch them (says the girl who's had to get a ferret out from behind the fridge). ;)

Hope he's back hopping around really soon.

I've put him back in his cage for the night, with a nice bowl of lettuce, a few extra Rice Krispies for good measure, and a nice tight locked door!! :bounce: I hear him chomping away at the moment. I guess I'm taking this whole thing harder than he is!!

The closest feeling I've ever had to this was when my oldest got their first bump when learning to walk.

Who would of thought a lop-sided, four legged bunny would of hopped into my heart so deeply.:lovestruc

 Sounds like everything is under control. Hope Thumper is hopping around by morning.:sunny:

My goodness. Sounds like things are going to be okay, but I'm offering a prayer for Thumper anyway.

Aw, I agree--you are such a good bunny mommy. I hope Thumper's foot gets better soon. :D

Thumper seems better this morning. :D His foot is still swollen but no where near as bad as it was last night. It's also still nice and warm to the touch.:p Lord knows, this whole ordeal didn't affect his appetite.......all the lettuce and rice krispies I gave him last night are long gone!! :teeth: Maybe some shredded carrots for breakfast will be good for him..............and for a Mom's still hurting conscience!!

Good to here that is leg is not as swollen. Heres hoping that he is hoping around by tomorrow morning.

Poor Thumper. I know how you worry about your fur-babies when they get hurts. Glad to hear Thumper is doing better today.:D
