We will be staying at ASMo in September. First, how far in advance can I fax a room request? I know it's only a week or so.

Second, can anyone give me some advice as to how to word my room request? I really want something special (OK, if I really wanted something special, we'd be staying at GF!) because it's my boyfriend's 40th birthday on September 11. I'd like that day to be as pleasant as possible for him. I mean, not only is he turning 40, he's turning 40 on what is now one of the worst dates in American history. :(

Can anyone think of wording that might garner us a desirable room and even perhaps some balloons or something on his birthday? I've read a few posts where guests were surprised with something nice on their birthdays, and I'd love for that to happen. Am I just being greedy and un-Disneylike?

Any other "birthday at WDW" advice would be helpful too! ;)

As long as you are not expecting a free room upgrade or the free stuff, I do not think you are being greedy and undisney like. There is nothing wrong with HOPING that disney will do something special as long as it doesn't become an expectation.

When you fax your request, I would mention that it is your boyfriends 40th birthday and given the significance of the date, you are trying to do something to make it special so you are hoping that for your trip you can room # such and such because you have been told "fill in what you have been told about the room".

Then you will just need to hope for the best. I would hope that Disney would do something special for him since it all those celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and other happy events, I think that the joy will be severely offset by the mourning of the year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedies.

Remember, if you make PS for that day to tell them it is your boyfriends birthday...once again, they may do something special.

Just got back and celebrated my aunt's friend's birthday...we got him the birthday badge from City Hall at Mk...at MGM he got a free dessert and signed card from the characters at Hollywood and Vine and VIP seating at the Indiana Jones Show. Get the badge! He can wear it the entire trip and get perks!

About sending a request...I did so four days before as suggested on this and other sites...we did not get it. I requested our four rooms to be together and nonsmoking in the basketball bldg. at AS-Sp. Only two rooms were together, two were smoking rooms, one room was in another bldg, and not in the basketball bld. I thought I had worded it pretty well....I am an English teacher and writing is my strong point...I even mentioned that three of the people had asthma and were allergic to smoke, which is true, but it really isn't that bad....and got nothing. HOWEVER, we ended up being in the footbball bldg. 7 which was closer...and when we were checking in this awesome luggage guy named Dean came and got our luggage and was about to send it to our rooms when I said, "But our party is split up so you won't know which bags go where." And he said, well we'll just have to change that. So he disappeared into the back room and came back saying that although he couldn't get our rooms together in a row, he could get us all on the same floor of the same bld. on the second night. The girl checking us in wasn't even willing to try this. Then she screwed it up by not changing it in the computer so when I went to get our new room the next day, the CM didn't have a clue. Luckily she asked who made the switch and Dean was around so he apparently worked his magic and got me the room ASAP and delivered the luggage himself...the trip alone was worth having him bend over backwords for us with out asking, like it was no problem...sorry, long story...but to get back to my point, don't count on your fax to get anything!

This is just me stating the obvious; don't forget please and thank you .

I think if you approach if from maybe they will spread a little magic you will have a better time. Sometimes Disney thinks of ways to share the magic that we haven't thought of.

I also would look at it as his birthday not the rememberance of a day that very bad things happened. I am sure you both will have a wonderful time!

If you have your heart set on getting something special for your boyfriend, like balloons, why not call the Disney Florist and arrange for it yourself? That way, you are guaranteed that he will get a surprise, and you won't come in expecting something that you may not get. A HUGE portion of people at WDW are there for a special reason. I know we schedule our trips on our anniversary (this year for our Disney wedding and honeymoon), so I'm sure they're probably swamped with special moments and can't do something for everyone.
Cheers!
