Need NetFlix Instant Watch Recommendations

We take a two (three, if you count DH LOL)-pronged approach to Netflix.

1) For things that can be streamed: mostly we only stream TV programs or documentaries (many of which originated on TV). I just don't find that the movie selection is good enough to stream movies most of the time. Yeah, sometimes I can find something to watch, but mostly I am VERY picky about my movies, and what they have available to stream just doesn't do it for me. So we stream a LOT of TV shows, especially things for the kids.

2) DH streams movies, because he is NOT picky. He will watch anything and most of what he watches is mind-numbingly BAD. He will scan through the list and if ANYTHING catches his eye, he watches it - what the heck, its free. The other day, a movie caught his eye because Sean Connery was one of the actors, it was called Zardoz. Look it up, but PLEASE, don't watch it. It was soooo bad. I truely believe that Sean Connery would like to buy up all the copies of this movie and hide them in his closet. He must have needed rent money very very badly when he took this one on.

3) We get DVDs mailed to us. As a PP posted, DVD turnaround is very very quick, we can average 6 DVDs a week if we remember to mail things correctly, and if everyone is in the mood to watch a lot of movies. I manage my queue online, often fiddling around with the list, moving movies around to make sure the movies we want to see are at the top of the list, and bumping things down if they have a "very long wait". Very often, the movies I am interested in seeing are not available for instant streaming, so having them mailed to me is the only way I will be able to see them.

We've recently enjoyed:

Collision
Murder by Numbers
Stone of Destiny

I just saw that Brokeback Mountain is streaming. I haven't seen it yet, but it's on my to-do list for this weekend.

6 a week? Are you on the 2-at-a-time plan? If we get a movie on Monday, watch it that night, and it's in the mail on Tuesday, the earliest we get another is Thursday. Maybe if we dropped the DVD off first thing in the AM at the post office we would get one sooner, but we always just put it in our box for the carrier to pick up.

We are on the Three At a Time plan. If we watch the three we have over the weekend, and drop them in the mailbox on Monday morning, we will have 3 more back by Thursday or Friday afternoon.

We have a very close "Nearest Netflix Movie Processing Center" :)

Zardoz cracked me up. The idea is pretty interesting actually.

I loved Stone of Destiny.

A Netflix reviewer actually sums it up perfectly: "Imagine James Bond rushing about the Scottish countryside in a red diaper." :scared1:

We currently have 133 things in our instant queue, we don't have any problems finding things to watch. We have TV shows and movies, I just scroll thru the first few pages of Starz every so often and see what they have, or sometimes I'll see a commercial or hear a line in a tv show or movie and it makes me think of something to watch so I check it in Netflix. I would tell you everything I have but I really don't want to sit here and type out 133 titles. LOL

Dear John

Very good movie. The Proposal is another good movie.

ETA: We have many television shows in the instant Que and yesterday we watched Toddlers and Tiaras as my one daughter wanted to see it. NEVER will my girls do pageants like those.

My youngest is currently watching the Suite Life on Deck since it is very cold out. We don't have cable so Netflix has been nice for a change.

I really love Netflix steaming. I can watch it on my Ipod while DH watches sports.

I am on a "24" kick- watching a season every week or two. Never watched it when it was on because it was too hard to keep up with. Now that I can pause it with no commercials I'm really into it!

The first thing that came to mind is Battlestar Galactica! The new series. For those of you that love LOST- give it a try. It is excellent! Plus it is hundreds of dollars to buy, so streaming is really the way to go. :thumbsup2

They have all of the seasons of The Office and Kate and Allie. For movies, I discovered Houseguest with Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin on InstantWatch. Love it!

Temple Grandin-Loved)
Five Dollars a day
matchstick men (loved it)
Objectified-
the 80'2 series Fame
thanks for the ideas! I didn't know about the disney ones....

These are some that we have watched recently and really enjoyed:

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
The Girl Who Played With Fire
The Pillars of the Earth series
The Duchess
Elizabeth The Golden Age
Billy Elliot

White Oleander
The Fountain
Robin Hood the series
Death at a Funeral

Movie- REVENGE. This movie is from the 90's. I found it years ago and I love this movie. It stars Kevin Costner, Madeline Stowe & Anthony Quinn.

Series- SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND. This is an excellent series. It does have a lot of sex, nudity & violence so beware of that in case this is something you would not want to watch. As a side note the star of Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) found out he has cancer. I hope he gets well soon.

Another great series is Prison Break. I watched this when it was on TV and it is a very good show.

FYI None of these are kid friendly.

I love Kate and Allie and houseguests! I will have to look for these tonight after the kiddies go to bed. Thanks!
