Hi everyone!

I need some assistance. My son wants a portable CD player for Christmas and some CD's (however, he doesn't know what kind of music), any suggestions on music suitable for a 6 yo boy?

Thanks!

I know my dd listened to Aaron Carter and his songs were appropriate for the age. In the kids sections they have music that has been kidified for young kids to listen to. Remakes of popular songs and such.

Well if he likes Disney there is a whole bunch of Disney CD's with either theme songs or even the Radio Disney ones. Check Target or Walmart they usually have a kids section. I know for sure Target does.

If you like Jimmy Buffett at all, he has a kid friendly CD called The Parakeet Album Some cleaned up lyrics, and the songs that were never questionable in the first place.

We love it in our house.

My 6yo dd likes my "old" music, 60's, 70's, disco & of course she likes 11yo dd songs.
Ask your school they might be able to point you to some fun educational songs the kids like.

As far as the portable cd player...man I cannot get one that actually works for a decent amount of time.

My 6 year old DS is getting a CD/headphone thing for Christmas too. He isn't really into music yet. (other than the Disney hits CDs we have). I'm actually getting it for the CD/read along Disney books I've been buying him. I thought that it would be great for him on car trips and at home.

I could go on and on about my chipmunks fandom, BUT for a six-year-old who might be looking for something a step up from cartoon music, there are a couple of kids' records by current bands that have recently been released. The first is No! by They Might Be Giants, who have always been sort of an upbeat family-friendly band. I've got that one, and it is excellent. The songs are simple but really nice, and it would be perfect for his age. It's parent-friendly as well. :) In addition, if you put the cd into your computer, there are great flash animations and games that go on while the music is playing. I'd say that's a must-have.

Also, you might look for this when it comes out in November. The song selections are great, and a lot of very cool bands are involved (really, darius singing "It's all right to cry"...what could be better? lol):

Nettwerk Productions (Canada) has joined forces with The Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach and will subsequently release an album of children's music titled 'For The Kids', featuring artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Barenaked Ladies, Five for Fighting, Guster, Sixpence None the Richer and Remy Zero on November

Petula,

That looks like a GREAT album. GREAT GREAT GREAT.

I LOVED the Mahna Mahna sony. Oh the memories that brings back. Still makes me smile to think about it. Thanks for the tip.

My 6 yo ds loves 70's and early 80's music.:) He could listen to Queen, Don McLean, Elton John, etc. 24/7 if he could.:)

kidz bop 1 and 2 are on my 7yr old dd list for christmas~they are the popular songs on the radio but sung by kids with all the adult language gone from them~ also she enjoys soundtracks from movies.

My ds, age 7, loves Radio Disney. He pushes all the
furniture back against the wall and dances all by
himself. It's pretty cute.
He also like Aaron Carter. I'm going to look
for some of these suggestions for him for
Christmas. He also likes salsa, reggae and
anything with a great beat.
