Okay college "kids"...I'm coming to you:

I teach at a public university in a class where the final assignment is to write a paper about a movie applying course concepts. However - I've had students pick poor movies in the past - so I want to come up with an "approved list."

I specifically need your help with what movies college students are watching.

The main criteria is that the movie must contain AT LEAST one of the following:
1) a romantic relationship that develops within the film
2) a romantic relationship that falls apart within the film
3) a friendship that develops within the film

The reason I need your help? I used to show "Say Anything," until I found out my students thought it was lame. :sad1:

So - give me some good movies!

P.S. (500) Days of Summer is already on my list. :)

Not a spectacular option, but one of my favorite movies is The Faculty. I like crappy movies, what can I say?

1. Romantic relationship that develops: Stan/Stokely, Casey/Delilah, Zeke/the English teacher, Zeke/Marybeth
2. Relationship that falls apart: Stan/Delilah
3. Friendship: between all the characters who were not friends before, or Zeke and Casey, Casey and Stokely, etc.

Hmm...I'm older than most college students, but my suggestions would be...
"When Harry met Sally"
"As Good as it Gets"
"Grosse Pointe Blank"
"The Breakfast Club"
"Pretty in Pink"
(or pretty much any Molly Ringwald/John Hughes movie)
"Clerks"
"Clerks II"
"Chasing Amy"
"Juno"

Ok, I'll quit there. Good Luck! :)

The Notebook is the first one that comes to mind.

Others...
Time Traveler's Wife
The Breakup
Moulin Rouge
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Failure to Launch

If you're hoping for more "guy" movies...
Spiderman
Transformers
Top Gun
Days of Thunder

Keep the suggestions coming!

Here were some ideas I had; let me know what you think:

Save the Last Dance
Juno
The Proposal
Anchorman
He's Just Not That Into You
Definitely Maybe
Valentine's Day
The Wedding Singer
Couples Retreat
Fever Pitch
Ocean's Eleven

I tried Breakfast Club once....I found out they're allergic to the "classics." :)

I thought of Juno too!

I'm also a little older than college age, but just 25...so I don't think I'm that out of touch:lmao: Your list looks pretty good, just a few suggestions:

Twilight
27 Dresses
The Ugly Truth
A Walk To Remeber
The Last Song
Sweet Home Alabama
Dear John
When In Rome
Avatar
Bride Wars
Fool's Gold
Dirty Dancing
Pretty Woman
10 Things I Hate About You
Ever After
She's All That

Love Actually
The Holiday
The Family Stone

Three of my favorites - and all Christmassy themed! :)

Okay I know it may be a bit odd, but we are at a Disney discussion board. How about Wall-E? Wall-E and Eve's relationship is one of the best romance's I've seen in a film, and then you also have the relationship he develops with the other robot Mo. There are other stretches for friendship, but when I think of a romance that movie also comes to mind.

Love Actually
Wall-E
UP
The Notebook
Meet Joe Black
Life as A House
When Harry Met Sally
Grosse Pointe Blank
Adventureland
Superbad
Funny People
The 40-Year-Old Virgin
Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist
Scott Pilgrim Verses The World
The Truman Show
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Slumdog Millionaire

First of all, this sounds like the sweetest class ever. But as for movies...

10 Things I Hate About You
He's Just Not That Into You
Bridget Jones
Pretty Woman
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
The Holiday
Clueless : )
Pride & Prejudice!
Wimbledon
The Wedding Date
Notting Hill
Sense and Sensibility
Becoming Jane

And this one probably wouldn't be everyone's taste, but I love, love, love
The Young Victoria
Queen Victoria and Prince Albert had a friendship, partnership, and marriage

Hope this helps, basically went through what I have in my dvd collection

I'll try to name some that haven't been mentioned:

Shakespeare in Love (Such a great movie!)
Princess and the Frog
Rent
White Christmas (okay, so this one is slightly dated and season dependent, but I couldn't resist adding it)
Across the Universe
Failure to Launch
Hitch
Just Friends
