DD is almost 9 months old and pretty congested due to her runny nose from teething. I have the vicks vapo plug in in her room which seems to help and our humidifier running in the hall so it can help us all. Any other advice I can use to get through the night. I'm calling her ped in the morning and we see her on Friday for DD's 9 month check up.

Thanks,
Margaux

Pediacare infant drops can help with congestion. Also, propping her up in her bed with pillows behind her mattress can help her to sleep.

I hear ya!! I have two sick kiddos, although they are 4 yrs and 2yrs. My 2 yr old has pneumonia (at emerg on Christmas Eve) and the 4 yr old has bronchitis. It has been a lovely holiday in our house  !!!

I know when my girls were babies and would get that congestion I always put a couple of folded towels, fairly flat, but just a little lift and I put them under one end of the mattress. It wasn't noticeable to look at, but it gave the mattress a bit of a lift so that they weren't totally laying flat. It always seemed to help them sleep better in that they could clear some of that mucous.

I also use a cool mist vapourizer. I have always used one since I was a kid and this is recommended more than the warm mist (for bacteria growth).

I also use the stuff that Johnson and Johnson has out that you rub on their chests (like a baby version of Vapo rub ... which you CAN'T use!!). They kind of smell like a little basted turkey!! It is a ecalyptus (?) I think!

A bath in a warm bathroom is soothing because the steam will loosen up the mucous so it "comes out!". If you don't want to do a bath, stand in the bathroom with the shower on high and it steams up pretty quick. This used to help my girls breathe a little easier after about 2 or 3 minutes!

I hope she feels better :) There is nothing worse than a sick little one. They just don't know what to do with themselves. Our youngest had RSV while we were in Florida when she was 7 months old. It was so hard because I had never seen her so sick. She was absolutely lethargic. It breaks your heart :lovestruc

Good luck ...

p.s. Oh ... and before we had an actual RSV diagnosis while on holiday, we were using some great saline drops for infants, and then suctionning her nose. They were awesome ... but I don't remember the name of them!!! The pharmacist recommended them and it was the BEST thing to get rid of the mucous. They were the drops, not the spray ... it may have been pedia care, but I don't really think so. I know there was an infant one and a child version. This REALLY works ... I had to do it with an adult version when I had a sinus infection and it really did help me to breathe!!

I just asked for help with this about a week ago :flower:
DD#2 is almost 6 months and I propped her mattress up, put the humidifier on, suctioned her nose, and held her a lot.
I took her to the pediatrician (and saw one of the drs that is definately not my favorite...but not my least favorite, either). I was told DD could have a specific decongestant or decongestant drop but I chose not to give her either of them b/c she didn't seem to need them.

Good luck and I hope the teeth come through soon!!

i used to buckle mine into their car seats and put the car seat inside the crib. in this way they could sleep in a seated position and i did'nt have to worry about pillows (my kids did'nt have pillows until they were 3 or 4) or getting their foot or arm stuck in a space btwn. mattress and springs (if elevated by something).

our pediatrician suggested this and it worked like a charm.

My DS was going through the same thing about 2 months ago. We used the vapor plug, humidfier, and saline drops and the aspirator. Unfortunately he still woke up at least once a night.

Thanks Ninahbear.. she woke up twice last night and one of those times was up for 30-45 mins till we could calm her down (teething too) and get her back to sleep.
I'll have to try the saline drops since everyone keeps saying those help.

Zyrtec and Pediox chewables has been a GODSEND for us. It has helped dry my dd3's nose up so many times, even RSV.... Ask your pedi about it.

congestion can be a stubborn thing...i have bad allergies and i have had my lovely cough for well over 2 months now....sleeping propped up is good...but let me say that you dont wanna give em too much stuff for it..cause it is good for them to cough that yuck out...

I have also used the car seat in the crib. Kids are used to sleeping in them and they are at just the right angle when in the infant position to sleep and still keep the nasal passages clear.

Good luck hope all goes well :wave2:
