Need mommy help...baby with eczema!

My DS's have eczema as well. Our pedi had us switch to a fragrance free laundry detergent (I use Purex). We use Aveeno for eczema on their skin and when they have bad flare-ups we use hydrocortizone cream.

I know you've gotten lots of suggestions on this topic. Our DS has eczema. Not as much as he used to but he still gets it. His is not due to milk or egg allergy. It is quite common for bi-racial and Black American children to have it. DS is bi-racial. We took him to the pediatrician and he gave him this cream type stuff that didn't work. I was disappointed. I went on one of my message board groups for parents who have adopted bi-racial or transracial children and asked the same question. The solution for us was Eucerin Calming Creme. It worked like a charm and we try to use it regularly to keep DS's eczema from coming back. I have met other parents who like me swear by it. The stuff is amazing. You can buy it at Target, Walmart, drugstore or other major discount retailer. It's not super cheap. I think I pay about $10 for the largest squeeze tube they make but it lasts awhile for us.

Hope this helps!

We love this stuff too. Really helps

I didn't read all the replies so I apologize if I'm repeating things.

Both my girls had eczema when they babies-toddler years. My oldest doesn't seem to have any break outs anymore. My doctor gave us a prescription cream, I think it's hydrocortisone but it's a 2.5 %. She also told us to use Eucerin lotion. We can't use any scented soaps, shampoos, or bubble baths. Also to not use baby wipes to clean any part of her skin except her bottom. It has all helped.

Good luck!

DD17m had has eczema from birth. My doctor actually said to give her looooong baths - every day - and til she's pruney! We also use an Aveeno bath wash for dry skin. Then pat her dry and slather her with Vaseline. It works! When we miss a day or two of baths, it flairs up and I know immediately why.

My son's wasn't allergy related - we always thought it might be - but he's clear. It was really bad at two to four - and by kindergarten he'd pretty much outgrown it except for a small patch once in a while we take care of with OTC hydrocortozone.

Allergy testing might not be a bad idea, cutting out foods might not be a bad idea - but it may not give you your answer (and both are a big deal to put a kid through).
