DD15 is having a party and I need a meal for 10-12 teenagers. They will be having a Star Wars marathon for 6 hours. I was going to have spaghetti, but dd says they will be eating in the living room and won't want to take a break to eat at a table! Any ideas? They don't have to be Star Wars themed.

pizza
sandwich wraps
bunch of appetizers -- chicken fingers, pigs in a blanket, pizza bites, hot pocket type something, etc. Costco has those variety packs of apetizers in the freezer section

Pizza
popcorn
chips, dips, pizza rolls, nachos, etc.
cookies, cupcakes
We've had many movie marathons before and they do take breaks!

You could do appetizer type food, kind of like for a Super Bowl party. Chicken wings, mini meatballs in chili/cranberry sauce, vegetable and/or fruit tray, nachos, etc. You could bring things out a little at a time--when we do the Super Bowl, I set up a card table in the family room. Don't forget regular movie munchies like popcorn, pretzels, Doritos, maybe M&M's. It doesn't have to be fancy or expensive--go for quantity rather than quality.

I should have also added dd does not want pizza. It is served at a lot of parties they have and she wants something different. The kids will all bring a snack for the afternoon, so I just have to provide dinner. I am thinking about making a taco dip with tortilla chips and a fruit salad, but I need a main dish that doesn't have cheese in it(dd is lactose intolerant). The other problem is we have one girl coming who is a vegetarian, so I need something for her, too.

One possibility that is a HUGE hit among all of my kids' friends is hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls. You can slit the hot dogs and add cheese, use the cheese-stuffed hot dogs, go without cheese (for your lactose-intolerant DD). Those have been a reliable hit. That may not be best for the vegetarian friend!

That said, I really really like the idea of doing the sandwiches with the Williams-Sonoma SW cookie cutters. I love mine! :-) That, honestly, might be the most fun idea. To make it easy, I'd just make up a variety of sandwich fillings, set out the bread and the cutters, and let 'em make their own sandwiches. You might want to make up a few just to have sitting out. I'd sandwich flavored cream cheese or peanut butter in tortillas and cut out little finger sandwiches. Some easy sandwich fillings would be tuna/chicken/egg/pimento cheese salad, peanut butter (with or without jelly), strawberry cream cheese, southwestern cream cheese (cream cheese with salsa mixed in), chicken quesadilla filling (diced chicken, well-drained black beans, salsa, shredded cheddar cheese, and cream cheese), etc.

Have fun! Shoot, I'd love to do a SW movie marathon, but my kids don't like SW. I have no idea where I went wrong. ;)

I would do subs. No need to worry about timing for cooking, or keeping food warm. Subs are also not messy and easy to grab whenever they are hungry.

Do you have Jimmy John's near you? They make yummy subs...easy to leave cheese off some, and they also make a nice veggie sub. You could get a variety and cut them into smaller pieces, or get a couple party subs or platters. If you don't have Jimmy Johns, you could go cousins or even subway. Jimmy Johns is our favorite around here.

Good luck! I'm sure the kids will have fun!

Subs or a deli tray (you could make your own), salad stuff and stuff to make a veggie sandwich.

I agree with subs. That's what my teenager daughter always requests because she said they eat pizza at EVERY other party. I should add that my daughter does not like pizza though....yes, she's a weird one.

How about a Cobb Salad?

Huge bowl of chopped lettuce.

Each kid can add what they want....pepperoni, cold chicken (Purdue Shortcuts), hard boiled eggs, cheese, diced ham, avacado, tomatoes, cukes, croutons, beans, etc.

Serve with sliced Italian Bread.

or

Baked Potatoes with toppings?

If you have a Wawa near you , they make party size hoagies. That is always a huge hit with older kids. Then have lots of finger foods and chips too. I'm not sure about the vegetarian though.

I know you said the food didn't need to be themed but have you looked at Pinterest for ideas? We did my nephews party last year Star Wars themed and it was so fun. And have you seen the spaghetti stuck through little hot dogs and then boiled? I think they'd make great Star Wars creatures of some sort.

I'd do a taco bar. With decried beans for the vegetarian and then your dd could avoid cheese. Always a hit for my dd and friends. Soft tortillas, crunchy shells, ground beef, decried beans( we melt ours with shredded cheddar in the microwave), shredded lettuce and cheese, salsa, tomatoes.

I know you said it didn't have to be SW themed, but my 18 y/o DD, who is a huge SW fan, recommended you check out the Star Wars Party Book. She has that, and both SW cookbooks, and said there are some great ideas in there.

I do a taco bar for my teens and their friends. They can assemble everything themselves and you can take care of all types of eaters with this.

Ground beef for the meat eaters.

Beans and rice for the vegetarians.

Soy cheese and dairy cheese selections.

Wheat tortillas plus corn tortillas and tacos for those that are gluten free.

Lettuce, tomato, onions, and olives.

Mild and hot salsas.

Guacamole if I am in the mood to make it.

I usually have a fruit platter on the side.

Always a hit with the teens around here and easy to make ahead and set out when ready.
