Need iphone groupies help - updated

My current contract is coming to an end and I'm making a case for "santa" that I should have my stocking filled with an iPhone.

As an iPod fan I think this would be just the ticket although I'm sure many will tell me that there are better mobiles available. These will not help my arguement and I will not be able to use this thread

So tell me what is great about an iPhone How do you find texting?
8Gb or 16Gb - although with a classic ipod that is full of music, videos and podcasts this may not be important ?

Killer apps? PAYG or contract?

I'm sure I will think of some other questions, but let the converting begin

I have had an Iphone since Nov last year and I love it Texting is soooo easy, I love the way it shows the conversation in speech bubbles! I have plenty of music, videos and podcasts and still lots of space. The phone syncs so well with my computer although I use macsThe Apps are amazing, I have so many favorites I could not list them

Like Jill says texting is so easy. Text appears in the form of bubbles allowing you to carry on an entiure conversation in one text.

I was a little hesitant moving from Vodafone to 02. The last contract I was on didn't include much and I seemed to always have to pay for calls. I've had the Iphone 6 months and haven't had to pay for any additinal calls.

The apps are fantastic - my favourites are Garf (think of the game Simon), Chess, Poker, Tris (tetris), Pac-Man, Hangman and Solitaire.

I already have a 160gb Ipod, so only went for the 8gb iphone. Plenty of space for me and I have loads of photos, music and a couple of movies on it.

One of the great things about it is, if you are on a distribution list on an email. With the touch of a button you can add the email addreses into your contacts. You can also read your emails and surf the internet.

The only downside, I know you asked for positives but I wanted to be fair. You can't forward on texts you have received. Also you can't send picture messages by text. It's so easy to send them by email though that it isn't really a negative point.

Hope you get one, I wouldn't be without mine now and can't think of another mobile phone that I would want after the iphone

My sister in law calls it 'her precious' so I think that says it all.

The only downsides from what I have read is the battery life and not so good camera.

I have the iPod Touch which shares many of the same features and I confirm that is a fantastic bit of kit without the add on phone bits. There are loads of free applications as well as those you pay an nominal amount for.

I would recommend getting the largest capacity you can but be aware newer versions will undoubtedly be released as Apple is one company that continually advances its products.

Thanks for all your help. Got the green light yesterday and purchased iPhone at lunch-time today as I was in Aberdeen for meetings.

Hardest part is that once I've activated it I'm expected to give it up until Christmas day

As other have said you will love it.

Most of everthing has been convered on here already. I have to stick up for the battery life though, I find that I can play on it contantly and it will still give me around 6 hours of WiFi abuse before dying. I get about 7 hours of playing videos and I the most I've used it for music was about 3 hours and that didn't make a dent in the battery.

Bad points are the fact that you can't send or recieve picture messages, no bluetooth conectivity with other phones and the fact that you can't copy and past text on the iPhone.

My favourate apps are (all free ones currently):

1) Facebook
2) eBay mobile
3) Google Earth
4) Wikiamo (wikipedia on the move!)
5) Shazam (can identify a song and then give you the Apple Store link to buy it and the You Tube video if avialiable)
6) iFooty (live football results!)
7) Shakespeare (the entire works of Shakespeare on your mobile phone!)
8) Stanza (lets you download and read classic books...for free)
9) Snow Report (gives us snowboards reports on all resorts in USA/Canada and Europe)
10) Tap Tap Revenge (great little game, frustrating though!)
11) iSlots (Slot machine)
12) MonstrMatch (card matching game, Halloween based!)
13) TapDefense (a stratergy game based on killing demons with castles, probably the best free game...ever...on any phone)
14) Chocolate Shop Frenzy Demo (great game based on running your own chocolate shop, haven't bought the full game yet as it's £4.99 and I have a £5 Apple Download limit per month )

Edited with some more cool Apps I found today:

1) Touch Mines (Minesweeper on the iPhone)
2) Smack a Toon (Whack-a-Mole but with cartoon characters)
3) Currency (Gives up to the minute currency exchange rates)
4) Lux Touch (Just like the Classic game Risk...but on the iPhone)

O2 ported my number over earlier... yesterday. So Santa relented and I've spent most of a conference today playing with email set up, test and the Apps store

Shame I can't access yahoo or hotmail accounts via the phone.

Not to concerned about battery life as to be honest DS keeps watching youtube and playing games. So if the battery does not last I get the phone back

I've had an iPhone since May, they are amazing, I love it so much. I'm sure there are technically better phones around but I wouldn't swap it for anything, it's just so cool

Only problem is mine died a few weeks back, waiting for some insurance money to get a replacement.
