Hello. I need help with planning a Disney vacation for my boyfriend's 1st WDW visit! I go 3 x's a year, but he has never been and I want him to have a blast (so he will go back). He is 37 y/old, meat & potatoes guy, loves fishing, sports, and nascar stuff. We are staying at the beach club for 7 nights, so there will plenty of time for hime to have fun. So far I am thinking about booking the 2 hour fishing excursion, "rookie" richard petty driving experience, parasailing, and jetskiing. I have planned some dinners at Ohana, Yachtman's steakhouse, Spirit of Aloha, and Fulton's (he loves steak and seafood). Gentleman and Ladies (who have gone to Disney with men) please let me know if my ideas sound good and any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

He's probably enjoy some of the interesting rides like Space Mountain, ToT, RnRR. Does he like playing golf, Disney has 4 golf courses. A lot of things you want to do can be a bit pricey at WDW. You may want to add Disney Premium Plan which may save more cash that paying a la carte. The only thing that you listed that's not covered by the plan Richard Petty driving experience. Also you get a better dining package than DDP or DXDDP with the Premium Plan. The plan also includes other things like WDW tours and a performance for La Noubia. I saw this about 6 years ago and it was a great show. I'm going with this plan for my trip in September, and I figured I'm saving about $100/day using this plan for the activities I'm going, going to tours, parasailing, golf lessons, golfing, eating at signature restaurants.

I hope this helps.

Thank You for your response. I had planned on the deluxe dining package, but will look at the premium package. I saw La Noubia last year and loved it, I wasn't sure if "guys" enjoyed that or not, but now that you mention I think he would. He is not really a golf fan, but fishing and fast cars is a sure win. We are also going to Universal Studios for a day, so he can get his thrill rides in.

Your ideas sound great!

My boyfriend (age 37) really liked the Segway tour at Fort Wilderness. We are on a smaller budget then you are. He also enjoyed renting a boat to drive himself. This year I "surprised" him with that 7 hour Disney tour. Surprised meaning I told him as soon as I booked it. He is really looking forward to that.

He likes eating out too. One of the CM mentioned to him eating at Narcoossee's so we are also doing that this year. We are also doing Hoop De Doo-chicken, ribs, corn bread & beer. I hope he enjoys the actual show too.
I think his favorite from last year was the place in Canada.

I am sure the fact that you love Disney so much will rub off on him and he won't be able to help but have a good time.

If he is a fisherman, I think he would be disappointed in the "scheduled" fishing tours. The are mostly for non-fisherman (i.e. city folk) that want to try their hand at it. I would suggest that you rent a boat, so that you can do your own fishing. I believe you can even rent poles from Ft. Wilderness.

I want worry to much about him having a good time. I am a man and have always enjoyed Disney.

Drinking around the Monorail is always fun. Drinking around the World Showcase is always fun. If he enjoys gaming, he will enjoy Innoventions.

and it doesn't take awhole lot to get me to go to WDW. Just don't schedule tons of stuff for me to do. I'd rather just take my time, lounge at the pool with a cooler of beer than watching a clock for the next item on the list. Vacations are supposed to be relaxing, I can grab a hamburger and a beer and be in heaven, nothing fancy just good old pub grub. Also, if he's like me, and knows what all these activities cost, well I'm cheap, might pick just one activity per trip, baiting someone to get them to like Disney and want to return can backfire. But if you have an endless income and he likes all that stuff, go for it. I've found our last 5 trips more to my liking, no schedules, no dining plan, no ADR's no nothing. If we felt beat and wanted to blow a day at the pool, so be it, picnic lunch and drinks, wander over to FW, Crocketts Tavern for pizza and beer gets my vote over California Grille any day. Hope all works out for you but these are my thoughts coming from a meat and potatoes, outdoor type guy, but likes WDW.

Just curious, I've done drinking around the world showcase before, what is drinking around the monorail ?

Ditto that! Whenever I go to Disney with my husband and son, we just go with the flow. No schedules to follow. No rushing to see a parade. Drink and eat whenever and however much or little we want. That's our way and we go at least once a year.

Try the ESPN club. My sons and I always take one night there for dinner and the big screen tv with non stop sports(check out the tv's in the bathrooms for those can't miss game moments).

Maybe ask him what he would like to do. But I bet he'll enjoy Disney without all the excursions. Im into the fishing, hunting, boating also, but there's a time and a place. When Im at WDW, its time to be a kid.

I'd suggest a bottle of champagne and the hot tub.
John

Hey...

If I had a girlfriend like you I would count my lucky stars. Someone who actually thinks of what I would like and spends time putting it together? You aren't the usual, I can tell you that.

That's what I love about it! Sounds like you have some awesome experiences planned. Universal makes my guys happy too. They like eating at the NBA Cafe when we are there and checking out the jerseys and games while we are waiting to be seated. Have a wonderful trip!!!

My guys could stay in Frontierland for days. I have to force them out. They love the shooting arcade, BTMRR, Splash Mtn.,etc. etc. etc. We could go for a day at MK and just stay in Frontierland.

I'll second the vote for Ohana. It's my husband's favorite. Meat on skewers brought to your table non-stop? He's in.

Here's another place you might check out. Biergarten in Epcot-Germany is a lot of fun. It's a german buffet, and the food is GOOD. Live band, beer flights, giant steins of Becks or Spaten. I'm a little of a "tomboy", so I'd rather eat sausages and drink beer than meet princesses any old day. ;) (It's a good think I only hang out with boys, aged 34 and 7.) My husband didn't care for the food as much, but that's because he accidentally ate some pickled herring. He loved the beer and atmosphere, though.

We're making reservations at the Rose & Crown this time around. I thought about going to Raglan Road, but we love Epcot and try to eat at least 2 TS meals there.

Le Cellier at Canada has some of the best steaks at WDW and the only place to serve Moosehead on tap outside of Canada (which is kind of special for a beer lover).

My personal take on the most manly rides: Mission Space, Test Track, Expedition Everest, Dinosaur, Thunder Mountain Railroad, Rock n Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, Indiana Jones Stuntshow, Lights Motors Action Stunt Show and of course Pirates OTC.

All I can say is that he is no good for you and you should take me with you. J/K I think that you should do one or 2 of the things you mentioned because I dont think you should overwhelm him with other stuff. Let him enjoy the parks and thrill rides to. I wish my wife would suprise me with just one of those, she always talks me out of doing them each trip.

Disney Studios has some good guy stuff compared to the other parks: Star Tours, Backlot tour, Indiana Jones show, Stunt show.
Epcot World showcase is also a good choice for the meat-and-potato guy: Canada, England, Germany, Norway. Be prepared to pay for the beer tour though.
As I guy, I like Downtown Disney but then... I like Disney. If he isn't a shopper, he can rent a boat there I think and let you do the shopping.

I wouldn't worry too much. As other have said, there is lots for everyone to love at Disney. We went with a guy on our last trip and his favorite thing? ... Spaceship Earth. Yeah, we rode it three times. So you never know. If he likes Nascar I would do the Richard Petty trip, but I wouldn't plan to do too much. You're planning style has been honed down from 3 visits a year. With his first visit you'll want to go slower and let him experience all of the rides he wants, even the ones you skip.

Man here. If Im going to see something, I want to see it--all of it.

I would NOT have been happy going to Disney and skipping things. I always want to see ALL the attractions in all FOUR parks.

Also, I highly recommend a 5:00 ADR at Marakesh for your Epcot day:thumbsup2 Maybe one at 50s Prime Time in Studios. Biergarten is fun too.
