need info/advice on purchase ASAP, thanks

thanks alot for all the input. very helpful! one last thing. supposedly my offer expires tonight at midnight. the 10off/point and the 2annual passes however after reading numerous posts it seems like the current promo doesnt end untill march 5. does that mean i can still get the 10off promo and only lose the 2 annual passes offering? also, i know there is no way of knowing but do you all think there will be a better promo on ssr come march 5 when akv goes public and disney tries to "blow out" ssr?????

The promo doesn't end, but because you are within the "grace" period from your visit, your offer ends. That's the way most timeshares operate. You are given an incentive when you tour, but if you don't take it within the "grace" period, the incentive goes away, and you will have to pay full price.

so if i am understanding this right, i lose everything after tonight? the 10 dollars off each point and the passess? if so then when am i eligible to purchase during a promotion again?

I'm not sure you are. I think once you are given a promo, that's it, but I could be wrong. I know we turned down our promo in 1994, and didn't purchase until 1997, and we were not allowed a promo because of that.

interesting, because the promo for the discount is on disneys website. i figured if it was on the website and being offered to anyone then why would i only be given 3days to take advantage of it. i understand if i lose the passes.

I think if you just contact your guide within that time frame and let them know that you are going to buy, but just need a little time to get things in order, they may extend the time. I know of an instance where that happenned and before they could call back a second time, they received the papers to look over. Each guide may do things different and that may not happen to you, but calling them and asking them to extend the deadline for you to make arrangements is worth doing. Good luck!

whats up guys and gals? thanks for all the input. i did call wed. night and told guide i would buy so i would be locked into promo. supposed to contact her tomorrow. i do have another question. from posting on another forum i have a general/simple impression of dvc. please let me know if i am correct. DVC is overpriced especially since u never own it, good trading power but not worth it since it would require alot of points especially for something larger than a studio. only own dvc if u want to stay at disney resorts during prime times. if planning on trading alot i would be better off with lets say a marriott in a prime location like aruba or maui. cheaper and way better trading power. please let me know what u all think of this. taking the plunge for good tomorrow.
thanks again!!!!!!

Many DVCers own enough points for their regular WDW vacations, and also own another timeshare (Marriott, etc.) to use for trading through II. For occasional trading DVC is fine, but the very best use of DVC is at a DVC resort.

As far as owning forever, rather than about 50 years...my thoughts are that in 50 years, most resorts will be outdated and need MAJOR refurbishment or total replacement...who will pay for that...the people that own there. Now you could say, why not sell it when it reaches that point? But what would a timeshare that needs a full rehab be worth resale, knowing that the new owner could be stuck with those fees?

Will your heirs want the responsibility of a perpetual timeshare, will their vacation habits match your vacation habits? Impossible to say, of course. But I am not bothered in the least that my DVC ownership will end when I'm in my mid 80s. I will have enjoyed it, and gotten personal value from it.

thanks chuck. very good point. i like the idea of enough points for disney vacation then another timeshare for trading. best of both worlds i guess. more money though. wish the dvc membership was enough. i guess i really need to figure out where i want to vacation. i know we want wdw but not every year. maybe not even every 2 years. can i ask which other timeshare you own? also, do u have an recommendations on a secondary ts for trading?
thanks again to all.

I don't own anything but DVC, as that is our normal vacation destination. I do know a lot of folks here own Marriott to use for trading.
