Need Ideas for inexpensive High School Musical 2 party

Ok.. realized why my aunt couldnt find the hsm shorts at walmart yesterday.. They are in the Junior Dept. If I read the add closer it does say junior sizes lol.

I bought my daughter the smallest jr size. Hopefully they fit.

We got shirts for my DD and friends and I got the bermuda shorts for DD. They didn't get the party supplies in, so I need to check another store. They had a game that looked really fun too. The guy at the door gave her a Lanyard and she said she was having a party, so he gave her enough for all the girls.

Just called Libby Lu's to make sure they had it before I head up there...

They answered the phone.. we have the HSM 2 premier party pack lol... I was like you were reading my mind

I called also, they are selling the party pack, but they do not have the lanyard. They are telling customers when they get it in they can come pick it up. I asked if I could leave them a self addressed envelope to mail it to me, they said we really do do mail & took my number to call me when they receive it in.

You can print out pictures of the kids on HSM and put them on some colored poster boards--spray w/ adhesive and add some glitter and hang them all over the room for decoration.

You can take a plastic red table cloth and make a red carpet--put it outside and take each person's picture as they arrive at the "premieres". You can make gold "movie" stars w/ each child's name and the cast of HSM and put all over w/ the pics.

Also--you can buy some white teeshirts (get large ones so they can sleep in)
and either create some iron ons from casts pics--or purchase some decorations like fabric paint, etc and let each girl make their own "Wildcats" shirt.

Wal-Mart has some cd singles that feature the song, "What time is it" from HSM2. The cd's have a preview on them of the movie and a cast poster inside. They sell for $1.24 each. I picked some up for party favors at dd birthday sleepover/HSM2 premiere.

good idea crazed....

I am doing yellow t-shirt with the new designs.... the new colors are blue and yellow.. I am staying away from the white and red. I just got back from Michaels and the t-shirts are 2.00 each this week. I am going to make shirts for each of the girls as their goody bag. I may run up and get a CD for each also.

I just got back from Libby Lu's and got the party pack. They had the lanyards at my store.

There was a woman is front of me that bought 4 sets lol.

Thanks for the heads up about the single for HSM2!!! I went to the local Walmart and picked one up for the girls for 1.48!!!

Keep the great ideas coming! My dd is turning 8 that weekend and has opted for a HSM2 premier bday sleepover, too!

I found paper red & white striped popcorm bags (about lunch bag sized) to fill with popcorn to munch on during the movie. Also I've seen the theater candy (like the boxes you would buy at the movies), but I'm debating on that much sugar with a houseful of 7 year old girls!!!

I had a HSM party last year for DD10 and we did the "Kiss Troy" game, and also "Pin the Phrase on Sharpay"--I got a bunch of balloon phrase stickers that said "Oh wow!" or "Whatever!" etc. and they stuck them on a picture of Sharpay...we also did HSM trivia, as well as I stuck a piece of bubble gum in a giant plate of whipped cream, and with hands behind their backs, they had to find the gum and first one to blow a bubble won.

They had a LOT of fun. For treats, I got a cute idea from Family Fun magazine for cupcakes...take mini-marshmallors and snip them on the sides and they look just like popcorn! I sprayed them with yellow icing and printed my own popcorn sleeves, they looked exactly like little popcorns. The kids absolutely loved them.

Have fun! I offered to do a party, but my daughters said they didn't want to miss ONE second and were afraid everyone would be too loud! Oh brother!popcorn::

Thanks so much to everyone for all the ideas and resources!

My DD is turning 10 in Aug. and thanks to everyone we are doing a HSM2 Premiere Sleepover Party for her. We got the People special edition for ideas and for food it is really cute. We went to Club Libby Lu and thankfully there were enough party packs. It sounds extravagant, but I am going to use the components for a take-away for her friends. Since I won't be spending much money otherwise, I thought it would be fun. (We live in a very upscale area...the $ that is spent on parties here is insane...we are not the 'upscale' of the area...) I was so thankful to know about the party pack at CLL....they are not really promoting it as a pack....more of indiv. pieces. I would have never known about it if it weren't for you all!

I have a party game idea that we played at a Harry Potter party the night of the book release for the same aged kids and they really enjoyed it...
I found Sandy Lion stickers of the HSM kids that were a good size. You can make decent sized squares out of card stock (theme colors). Make 2 card of each person and on the back perhaps write HSM2. Line them up on a table and divide the girls (and or guys) at the party into however many teams you want. Then play "Memory" with the cards. It can be as simple or challenging as you want. Like I said, the kids we played with really enjoyed it....

I found really cute HSM/HSM2 tee-shirts today at Walmart for $6.44.
I liked that the colors were a little different. They had a berry red color and a teal that were colors you don't see very often. We have enough grey, pink and white!

I love all the ideas and tips from everyone....
keep them coming and we will all have the event of the year!
Thanks so much!!!:)

Great ideas everyone! My 5yo dd wants HSM as the theme for her party at school this year. I've been totally clueless on what to do. Would love to hear more ideas!! :thumbsup2

Hey I got a few extra of the HSM2 necklaces if anyone missed out. I figured the contest is over but someone little girl might still want a little disney magic to wear on the 17th while watching the movie. PM me and I will snail mail the few extra I have.

Oh I am so glad I found this thread! DD7 wants to have a party and I need ideas!

Also what would you think if we call it an early Birthday party even though her real birthday in not until Thanksgiving weekend? We never have a party because we are always traveling for Thanksgiving. It is a bummer to have your b-day on a holiday weekend. I am not sure if we should include the birthday or just have the party to have the party.

It's not my DD7 birthday - but I am letting here have 10 friend over for a HSM2 slumber party. We have a dry erase board and we are putting Snack Bar at the top. Then we are putting a column for food, drinks and dessert. The kids can come up and order what they want from the board. We are having what the movie theater has: hot dogs, pretzels, nachos, box candy, popcorn and pop. I am clearing out my front room so the girls can dance around as we watch part one while I am DVR part two. I thought we would eat befor part one and then have dessert before part 2. I am hoping it will be late enough that the girls will go upstairs and play after they are both over.

My DD asked me if she could have a High School Musical 2 party on the night the show comes out (8/17). The movie starts at 6:00pm our time. DD wanted to show it using our projector and large wall screen that we use for movie nights, but it won't be dark enough at 6:00pm for the projector. So, I'm going to TIVO it and then show the movie when it gets darker.

Now I need some other themed ideas on what else to do with the girls while we wait for it to get dark. DD is starting 6th grade in August so the girls will be 11 and 12 year olds. I'm guessing there will be about 6 other girls besides DD. That's about all the screaming our dogs will be able to tolerate. :dog2: :dog2:

Any ideas for themed snacks, games, or dances? :dance3:

My Girls are also having one... we are planning on having the guests dress up for the "premiere party " and walk on "the red carpet" (I'm going to use a roll of red wrapping paper)as they arrive and take their pictures. We were also thinking about doing Karaoke or sing along w/ High School Musical CD we have. Another idea for a game is to get an indoor basketball hoop with the sponge basketball ...make a free throw line on the floor with masking tape and whoever makes the most baskets wins a prize. hope some of this helps as we are still planning ours as well... feel free to check back on more ideas ...I'd like to know how yours goes as well! Good Luckpopcorn::

For those that are designing their own T shirts for the party, what did you design? What does it look like? I'm stuck with what to do!!!

go check out the ladies on the creative board. I had pat make mine. Its Gabriell and Troy jumping in the air on wither side of the kids name. The names are in a font that look like light bulbs on a marquee. The look great. She did them for all the girls coming to my party. I just gave her a few buck though paypal as a thank you for her time.

here is her site:

Look at page #1 under name tags and you will see the one she did with my daughter cassies name.
