Hi,
Dh is an sergeant in a police department motor squard. He has several officers and public assistants that he supervises. This is his 4th year in this unit and he has purchased small tokens gifts for them each year.

Previously he's gotten them:
Starbucks gifts cards ($10)
Harley-Davidson glasses (the dept. rides those motorcycles)
Borders gift card ($10)

This year we can't decide. The only thing "new" we can come up with is Target. Most of the folks are guys though, do you think they'd go into a Target? We thought of a movie card but since so many people don't do movies from places like Blockbuster anymore we nixed that. A grocery store card or mall card would be hard too since everybody lives in different areas. A fastfood place seems a little cheesy, although as DH points out it would be a free meal and would probably pay for two people.Their schedules don't make taking them all out to lunch possible. Would it be bad to repeat Starbucks?

What would you like?
Target $10 card
Starbucks $10 card
McDonalds/Wendy's $10 card
Home Depot $10 card

He has 14 people to buy for so we really need to keep it right around $10.

Thanks for your input!

How about Dunkin Donuts if there are any near? Might go a little further than Starbucks. Or you could mix up and do Target for the women and Home Depot for the men.

Happy Holidays!

Of those choices (which makes him a very fine boss to even do that)

I would prefer in preference order

Target
Starbucks
Home Depot.

If it was my DH, it would be:

Home Depot
Wendy/fast food
Target.

My Dh finds things at Target. Sometimes its Christmas stuff like extension cords or car parts, but sometimes he gets other stuff.

Target is not a totally girly store.

My DH would pick Starbucks, home depot then Wendy's(I do target he does not)
For my DH's coworkers(men) we bought baseball lanyards to hold their ID's. He knew their favorite teams so we bought each a personalized team lanyard(they were $8)
How cool that they ride Harleys!!! Nothing else on that site for around $10?

In the past my DH has given his workers:

mini mag lights

Car lock heater/defroster (I can't think of the name of these. They are on a key chain, they hold AA batteries, with the push of a button a metal pick pops out and heats up. You insert it into your car lock to unfreeze it.)

silver engraved pocket knife $9.98 from Lillianvernon

All of these things are in the $10 range.

I usually give two movie tickets coupons for gifts such as these. They seem to be appreciated. I stopped giving Blockbuster cards because they don't seem to be as widely used.

I do like the DD idea!

Totally stereotyping here, but do you have a Krispy Kreme? If I did, I'd LOVE a gc for there.

I like the idea of a restaurant tho. They can use it for a warm drink on a cool day. Or for lunch. I know officers aren't always in a position to go "home" for their meal break.

This might sound corny, but I have given people De-icing spray as a small gift.. They are very inexpensive and I've found alot of people don't even know it exists..

I love to use it to spray the ice away in the winter, instead of scraping and chipping...!

Just an idea!

I dont know about where you live but here in MA we have a radio station where the two hosts of the show Lauren and Wally do alot of skits, including turing some famous songs into songs about local citys, its mature comedy, but nothing dirty. Anyway they sell CD's and I think they make good gifts because they are gender nutral, they arent pricy, comic relief :rotfl:
Ill bet one of your local radio stations has something similar.

Tink~

I think guys would like Home Depot, but I love Target. They have everything in there! If there is a Dunkin Donuts or other shop nearby that they go to often, like a local pizza joint, that might be a good idea.

My DH is an officer - how nice that your DH does this for "His guys"!!! He loves Buffalo Wild Wings as do all of his friends at work - females included. He just received a gift card for his birthday and he is already planning a trip to use it! Not sure if you have one of these by you, but they love it! If they don't want to eat there, they have carry out and sell the sauces as well. My hubby stops in to get the sauce for one of his old sergeants all the time.

Tell your DH to stay safe and have a wonderful holiday!

My DH is a sergeant in our police dept as well. He supervises 5 detectives and 4 patrol cops. He gave them a "free" day off last year. That was very much appreciated. They gave him a nice gift certificate to his favorite restaurant. How nice of your DH to do that.

Thanks for the replies and good ideas.

Dh is a little sensitive about the cop/donut jokes so I don't think that would go over well ;)

Keep the ideas coming!

Most of the guys I know would prefer a gift card to either Home Depot or Starbucks.

As a Police Officer myself, I know most donut shops- Tim Horton's, Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts... etc- give Police Officers free coffee so that they continue to come in. In my opinion, Home Depot or Target would be a better choice. In the past, I have given scratch off lottery tickets to the people that work at the donut shops when they give me a cup of coffee- not all places allow the staff to accept tips. They are fun to scratch off and they appreciate that you thought of them. Scratch offs might be a good option for your husband as well.

I think it's great that your husband thinks of his officers at this time of the year. I have been on the job for 10 years and have never gotten even a Christmas card from my bosses!!!

ooh scratch offs!! Good idea I am going to suggest it to my DH for his messengers!! Thanks for that one.

I personally hate scratch offs. I feel that they are a waste of money. I hate getting them, and I never ever give them.

My boss has a favorite local lunch time resturant. He gives about 20 of us $5 gift certificates to this resturant. Some never use them and hate the idea. I use mine at night as partial payment for DH and I to have supper.

He also gives all the women something ---- big tin of popcorn, box of chocolates, a mug with liquid inside that you freeze, tin of cookies, candles, bird houses.

How about a tin of homemade cookies? fudge? party mix? Jar of cashews? peanuts?

Yeah, I'd steer clear of the donut shops too. I really can't see anyone going wrong with a Home Depot or Lowes gift card. Male or female. If you did not want to go the practical route then maybe movie tickets-cinema, not video.

I saw the "scratch card" idea on another thread and while I think it is a neat idea - I'd be concerned about giving one to someone who is opposed to gambling. Might offend someone -

I personally like to get Barnes & Noble - and/or Borders gift cards. Maybe tape it to a little box with some homemade fudge;o)
