We, too, just came back from 5 days at Hilton Head. Weather was fantastic. In our group several went golfing three days in a row while the rest of us (all retired and about-to-be-retired adults) rented an umbrella and beach chairs and read books on the beach, hit the pool in late afternoon, and visited Pinckney Refuge for birding and alligator sightings. For the golfers, HH National is a favorite. Disney will help
DVC members with tee times, vouchers, etc. If you look in your membership book, you'll find details about Disney golf.
Also, in your room you'll find a Celebration envelope that has discount tickets in it for golf, some restaurants, etc. Look in it early. We looked too late and found we could have saved quite a bit of money on golf discounts, food, etc.
The Pinckney Refuge is just over the bridge; admission is free, though I noticed Disney offers a tour there for fifteen dollars. It's an easy drive and if you walk in about a mile to the Ibis Pond, and follow the trail around it, you'll see nesting herons, alligators, etc. Two of our party are experienced birders and outdoorsy types, so we had plenty of commentary and direction. This is an easy place to go on your own.
On our last day the entre troupe went to Sun City Hilton Head, since two of our party are interested in exploring options there. That was kind of fun if you're in the market.
For dinner we ate at Skip's Fish Market in Shelter Cove, and several ate at the Italian restaurant over there -- think it's called the Venezia or something like that. (I missed it because of late arrival) Those who ate there thought food was great. We also ate at Old Fort Pub, pricey but good.
Our favorite for food, though, is using the grills at Hilton Head. We had a two bedroom so this was easy. There are picnic tables and the Piggly Wiggly, lovingly known as "the pig" is just down the street.
This was our second year at HH, which I chose as my home resort, sight unseen. I am already looking forward to our next visit. Last year we took a day trip to Savannah; next time we hope to fit in Charleston. I must admit, though, I love the beach.
Have a fabulous time!
