i am a total newbie and just starting my planning. How do I choose resorts?
Want to be closest to Epcot
Nice pool
Suite style rooms
Under $250 a night

Near Epcot is Boardwalk, Yacht Club, Swan and Dolphin. You can go cheaper if you're willing to ride the bus.

a lot of people like Caribbean Beach Resort. My Sister in law and family stayed there, it looked really nice.

You definitely will not get a room near Epcot for $250/night in any of the Disney resorts. When are you going? It maybe possible in either Swan or Dolphin. If you have AAA membership you get further discount but it depends when you are going/

Thank you I told you I knew nothing. Ok I guess just a nice room with 2 beds
Nice room with two beds in your price range would be available at the swan and dolphin if you want to be near Epcot. Not a Disney resort. The Disney resorts in that area are well over 300 a night.

I was able to book the yacht club at $200 a night last summer. You have to monitor rates and be prepared to jump on a great deal as soon as you see it

First, I woudl suggest that you check out the resorts on property. That way you can get an idea how much they cost and where they are located. Then figure out what time of year you want to visit. The prices change depending on the season adn what discounts are usually offered.

Look at your total budget for lodging, tickets, and food. This way you know what you can spend and you don't look at resorts that are out of range.

For your room budget you are looking at a moderate, and you have some decent choices. Look at Coronado Springs resort if you want a suite. I don't know the cost but they offer Jr. Suites, the amenities are pretty darn nice, and the pool is wicked cool!

I think I might look at Port Orleans resorts as well. RIverside is a big resort but it has an onsite restaurant, a nice pool, is beautiful, and has the boat to Disney Springs. French Quarter is smaller, very compact, and is pretty. It has a small pool, no quiet pool, and is one of my favoite moderates. It also has a boat to DS>

Take a look at www.mousesavers.com They have info on the rooms, including location, pictures, pricing etc.

When are you going? There are frequently discounts that pull down the prices a bit, though they may still be a bit higher than you expect.

And know that "close to Epcot" may be less of a concern than you think. Disney transportation will get you to and from any of their resorts to any of the parks. It runs nonstop all day long and is included in the price of your ticket/ room. So you'll never be more than a busride away from any of the parks.

The "Epcot Resorts"-- the Beach and Yacht Clubs, the Boardwalk, the Swan and Dolphin-- are all within walking distance of Epcot. That's an amazing perk, but one you pay for. The rest of the Disney resorts will still enable you to have a wonderful vacation, but will require you to add a little commuting time. Most people have no problem with that in return for the money they save.

As long as you stay away from high season, you can possibly get close to that price. We're here now, and are paying $450 per room (2 rooms) at the YC. That's WITH a discount. We love the area, but to be honest, our rooms are worn out & not worth even half of what we're paying, but that's something that everyone realizes going in. We choose this area for the location and the pool, not the rooms.

You can get a studio at either Boardwalk or Beach Club at 30% off, which would bring you to around $250. That's one bed and one sofabed, a kitchenette and a bathroom.

Are you looking for luxury amenities at your resort, or inside your room?

The All-Star Music Family Suites are roomy, but only have one queen bed, and the rest are pull-outs.

A cabin at Fort Wilderness has a queen, bunk beds, and a sofabed. Full kitchen too. Beautiful area, so nice and quiet.

Try the Dolphin or Swan, depending on the time of year, standard room run from $179 to $250.00+ a night, if you become a Starwood Resort member, your rate may be lower however, these hotels charge a resort fee, I think it's $18.00 a day; and $12.00 per day parking fee (this may have increased). They also charge an occidental fee in the amount of $100.00. BUT... you will be within walking distance to Epcot and Hollywood Studios and you have the option of using the Friendship boats. I personally prefer the Swan, but in my opinion the Dolphin is more kid-friendly. Keep in mind: Dolphin/Swan are NOT Disney owned hotels.

Disney's Beach Club, Boardwalk, and Yacht Club resorts are mostly always over $250.00 a night. I think the cheapest I got Yacht Club for once was $261.00 but that is very rare!

Caribbean Beach is the closest moderate to Epcot, but only via bus.

I agree with the pp, I would try and Swan and Dolphin for your wants and budget. I think they even might have some suite-like rooms, but I don't know the pricing. That would put you within walking distance of Epcot or the Studios, and have boat service to both, within your budget. Just be aware that since these are not operated by Disney, that some of the perks are not there, like you would not automatically get a magicband or be able to charge to your room in the parks. Just do some research on them versus the Disney resorts and see if that's ok to you.

This is our first time as a family and I chose Boardwalk because it seemed to have the best proximity to most of what WDW has to offer. We will have to bus it to MK but everything else we plan to do this trip is walkable.

You might want to try renting DVC points. I'm not sure if doing so will bring the price down enough but it wouldn't hurt to check.
