our family (DW,DD,DS and I) are going to be camping at FW this weekend with a grp from my DD school. We have never been camping before, and have never been to FW before. We are all excited about this trip but alittle scared not knowing what to expect. We will be staying in some tents that are put up by Disney. Has any one stayed in that area before? Is there a good website with information and maybe a map of FW.

Well, that sounds like a fun fieldtrip! It sounds like you'll probably be staying in the group camping area--an area at one end of the campground that is used especially for larger groups in the FW tents. Here is a site that has a good bit of info about FW, and some pictures. I think you'll have a great time! Ask if you have any more questions!!

Are you going to the parks, or just enjoying FW?

When we were there in Oct a BIG group of Scouts were in the group area (Creekside Meadows?) and they spilled into the 2000 loop where we were. They mostly stayed at FW.
They did the pony rides, the hayride, the pool, the playground, the campfire sing along with Chip and Dale, etc. One day I overheard a lady in the restroom telling another that they were going to take the boys to ride the ferry to MK and back. I told her
"ya know, when you get to the dock at MK you are only steps away from the monorail...they'd probably love that"

The next day we bumped into each other again and she thanked me. People don't realize all the neat free stuff you can do at WDW without entering the parks. Through a childs eyes the ferry and the monorail are just as exciting as Peter Pan or BTMT! :thumbsup2

Hey there! We had to use one of those tents from the fort a few years back and if they are still the same you'll need to have good flashlights/lanterns for inside the tents. They are the military style very heavy canvas tents that have no windows so it is pitch black in there. I'm thinking they would be good for keeping the cold out though.

I hope you guys have fun!!

Thank you all for the information. campingcorgi thanks for the web site it was very helpful. We will mostly be doing activities around FW, but my DD wants to try to escape to MK on Sunday to ride POTC. Once again thanks for the information :thumbsup2
