I am so bad when it comes to writing. There are 4 of us in a group at work, one of the guys works in a different country (while we all work here) so we have a conference call everyday to keep eachother up on whats going on. Well the othe guy in the other country has been working really long hrs etc. and my boss feels he is managing his time incorrectly and wants me to send this guy from our team an email about it b/c my boss said it would sound better coming from me. The guy sounded ehausted on the conf. call this morning and couldn't really talk right. I felt bad for him. My boss told him to go and get some sleep. etc.

So now I have to write him an email and have no idea how to start it or what to say to make sure I don't come across like a boss or anything. Anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like your boss is a wimp.

Are you in a position to be writing a letter such as this?

I agree with this. Why is the boss asking you to write a letter about time management? This is a hard one...

Maybe take the approach as a friend concerned for his health about long hours. Ask if he's volunteering the long hours, or does he have too much to do, or not enough time to do it? Sometimes people work extra to avoid going home. If he says too much to do, maybe you can offer some of your time-saving time-management tips by phone?

By my approach, you are finding out if there really is a time management problem on your appropriate level as co-worker. If there is a problem, then I would turn it back over to the boss.

Why should you have to talk to him about a time-management problem that might not really exist?

I've been put in this position alot. I try to approach as a concerned friend first & see if we can find if a problem exists & what tips can I offer.

Thanks for the advice SplshMtn99 :)

No I do not feel I am in the position to send out an email like that but when the boss says to do something I do it. I am finding that he is having me do a lot of things like that so it sounds better coming from me than him.
