Need help - WL or Poly in December?

Hey all.
My boyfriend and I are in the process of planning a trip for the first week of December and have finally decided to take the plunge from moderates to delux! yay!
I have an AP and am expecting (should I say hoping) for a discount at that time. I have last December's AP rates and the Poly garden view is $54-70 more per night than WL's standard and woods view.
My questions: Is it worth the extra money to stay at the Poly if we don't get a lagoon view?
And my concern about WL the boat transportation. I visited this past December, and I think I lucked out and walked up right when the boat was pulling up. How long is the wait normally and do you freeze on that pier?

Any input and recommendations from people who have stayed at both is GREATLY appreciated. I'd like to hear the ups and downs of both resorts.

Hi, first, if you scroll down about 15 threads you will find one called "WL or Poly." Take a look at that because there are lots of comparisons and info re both resorts.

To answer some of your questions, you won't regret taking that plunge! You've chosen 2 great resorts to possibly stay at, but they are very different. WL is more of a "ski lodge" type resort, absolutely gorgeous. The rooms are inside the resort (one building) and everything is convenient to get to, meaning restaurants, lobby, bus stop, pool, etc. Poly is more spread out with separate buildings and has somewhat of a hawaiian theme.

My opinion regarding the WL boat transportation is that it's very efficient. We never waited for more than a few minutes. We went in September, so unfortunately I can't comment on the temperature in December. I'm sure others can help you with that!

Good luck and you'll love whichever resort you choose. ::yes::

angey77 - I posted the same question last week and received a number of responses with different opinions. We ended up booking WL because we could not get the Poly GV with a AAA discount (I do not hold much hope that there will be a code or AP when we are going in May). We had stayed at the Poly in 02 and loved it and I think if there had been a AAA rate room available we would have gone back. WL sounds wonderful, but the Poly is much more convenient to MK and Epcot. If a code does come out, I am not sure if we will change or not. Since you are going in December and if you want to wait until mid-May, I can let you know what we think when we get back. Jay

Thanks Jay. I would like that.
Really, the only factor that is truly driving me nuts is wanting to be on the monorail. And the fact that the Poly is one of the originals.
But I have three other fellow travelers' opinions to consider and they all know me as the Disney expert, so I better research as much as possible to protect my reputation! It all lies on my shoulders!

We stayed at both resorts and I agree, they are so different! there were things we loved about each one. Poly: loved the theme and the lagoon view we had! The proximity to MK and TTC was phenomenal...it was so convenient! We also loved being able to see the Castle from our room. WL: loved how everything was in ONE building! It was so nice to just grab an elevator when you anted a snack or a refill for your mug. It was such a pain at the Poly to walk all the way to the GCH. I loved the boat transportation...it was so relaxing. The theming of the resort was great; I think our jaws dropped as we walked into the lobby. There were good and bad to each...Good luck with your decision!
