We will be staying at the GF for the first time in December.

I am trying to find out about the Valet Parking since we will be driving down. My questions are:

1. How much is parking.
2. How much do you normally tip.
3. How does it work for the whole week, getting and bringing back your car?
4. What is the best transportation from GF to DTD, MGM, and AK.

Sorry for the long post, but I could not locate anything on the GF information Thread.

Thanks

1. Valet parking used to be around $7 but in April I think it went up to $10. Since I have the DDE card I get valet parking for free when I eat at the resorts.

2. I usually tip $2 when my car is brought to me. Some people tip when the drop the car off and when they pick it up but I'm more comfortable tipping when my car is returned to me. Personal preference.

3. I haven't parked at the GF for a whole week but I've done so on a 'every other day' basis when I stayed at Pop. The valet stand is right there at the entrance to the GF. You just give them your valet ticket, they get the keys to your car and give them to one of the valets to get your vehicle and they bring it to you. You get a hang tag for the day you pay for valet and it's good for the whole day. When coming back to the resort you just pull up to the valet lane (the valet staff will direct you), show the valet your hang tag, give them the keys and you're on your way! I'm sure other folks here have had more experience staying at the GF and using valet while there.

4. While bus transportation is efficient for public transportation, it seems the GF is the last resort to get picked up and the bus is sometimes full from picking up at the Contemporary and the Poly. I don't have a lot of patience so I usually drive to any other part of the park that isn't EPCOT or the Magic Kingdom.

Hope this helps! :thumbsup2

Ms. StinkerBelle

Thanks for the help. I am so confused about the parking.
We went there for dinner two years ago and had a nightmare of a time getting a parking place. This was one reason I almost did not book this resort. Figured we would try to valet so not to have to walk to far to get to the resort with my DD.

I think we will just drive to the other parks, it sounds easier.

Thanks again.

If you are driving down for an entire week and NOT using your car at all, I would recommend parking your car yourself in the self-parking lot. It is NOT convenient and a real pain, but if you're never going to call down to have your car brought around, it will save you $10 per night...
If you're thinking of driving to some of the parks, then I recommend valet parking which will save you a LOT of hassle. The GF self- lot is very inconvenient and across the street. I did it once and never again.

$10 per day and personally I tip $2-$3 per drop off and pick up; I know most people tip either when they drop off or when they pick up but since it's never the same person in my experience, I tip both times.
The $10 nightly charge is added to your bill each evening.

Hello Neighbor,

We always valet at GF, or which ever resort we stay at. Usually 7-10 days.

Please don't worry yourself at all. It has always been seamless for us. We usually tip $2-3 a pick up.

Also, usually the only place we drive is off property, DTD, or another resort. I can't remember ever driving to a park or water park.

Good luck and have fun!

Yes, I forgot to add the essential tip about driving to DTD oneself if possible :thumbsup2

As was earlier stated, valet parking is now $10 per day. So, you will just get charged $10 for each day of your stay that your car is valet parked. You can come and go as much as you want. I normally tip about $2 when they take the car and about $2 when they retrieve it.

I would definitely recommend valet parking at the GF, because the self parking lot is a long way away! Any other resort, I self park, but not at the GF.

Also, as far as getting to non-monorail destinations, we just take our car, because sometimes the bus transportation isn't the most efficient, at least in our experience.

When you want to drive your car, call down to valet and they will bring your car around so that you don't have to wait.

Wow!!!

Thanks for all the information, I now know what to do. I really had not idea since I have never been at a resort I really needed to valet park at. Sorry it took me so long to respond long day at work. WDW Fan nice to speak to a neighbor as well. :goodvibes

When you want to drive your car, call down to valet and they will bring your car around so that you don't have to wait.

Are they doing this now? They used to do this, and it was wonderful - call the desk, and by the time you got there your car was waiting for you. But they stopped allowing this a few years back. Some said it was a security thing, but I think it was because the area would get too jammed with people taking to long to get their cars.

Now, one of us leaves a couple minutes before the other to get the car and the car is then waiting for the rest of the group.

By the way, we drive everywhere - haven't stepped foot on a Disney bus in 9 trips. So valet is WAY worth it to us with going in and out as much as we do. I think we self parked at the GF for one day on our first trip there (8 visits total).
