Need help with bag for the parks

I am in search of a great bag to take to the parks. I have looked at the Baggallini Messenger bag that everyone seems to prefer, but I think it is too big for my taste. Plus, I prefer a bag that goes across my body and sits on my hip / side. The messenger bag sits on you back. I have also looked into the Baggallini City bag, but the reviews on it say the opening is too small and difficult to get your hands into. Does anyone have any other recommendations? THANKS!

My favorite is a Vera Bradley hipster. You can adjust the strap and wear it across your chest which is how I wear it.
