Need help understanding resort charge

So we leave for POFQ in 2 weeks.

I am just now looking at our Resort Confirmation.

7 night stay
3 nights at $189.90 each plus tax
2 nights at $230 each plus tax
2 nights at $198.00 each plus tax

Under payment Information it says $1603.92

I though tax was 6% in Florida
So my total is $1511.24

Does anyone know what the other amount could be for?
Or are hotel taxes higher?

**On a side note can anyone tell me where I can pay online? I am going to go buy gift cards tonight so that I can save on the foreign exchange.

Hotel tax is 12.5%. Which then equals $1603.92, so it's correct.

Looks like you have a room only booked. If so, you cannot pay online. You can call and pay with gift cards.

No idea what it's like in Canada but most every US city has very high hotel/motel taxes. It's a way to generate tax revenue and usually NOT tax your local constituents but tax transients instead. Not many of your voting public complain when someone else is getting taxed.

its called a bed tax and it usually goes back to the city to be distributed as tourism funds

Like our CVB gets $1,000 a month in bed tax from our little hotel in town and then in January, we get the remainder of whatever is left of bedtax from the previous year

Well, a little less provocatively, it's generally called a room tax The 12.5% includes the 6.5% sales tax.
