I've been to Disneyworld many times, but this if my first time using the DDP.

Going in December (also my first visit to Disney with the Christmas decorations up) and I'm having trouble picking a TS dinner at Hollywood Studios.

I've eaten at Mama Melrose's and Sci Fi Dine in before. I originally reserved dinner at Sci Fi Dine in, but now I'm second guessing. I've never had a problem with the food before (last time I ate there was 2005) but I've only gone for lunch.

Should I try 50s Prime Time Cafe? I LOVE the atmostphere at Sci Fi Dine in, but I've done it so many times before maybe it's better to try something new?

Any advice is appreciated.

We really enjoyed 50's! We thought the food was really good and the atmosphere was very fun. I had the salmon and hubby had the fried chicken and I kept stealing pieces of his chicken. It was just so good!!!

It has gotten bad reviews, but then again, so has Sci-Fi and you really like that, so why not give it a try?

I really like the pot roast at 50s PT- it has become the only restaurant we are doing twice this year.

It is worth a try.

50's was a bust for us, but I blame our individual server. All the other servers were having fun with the theme, and customers were getting in trouble in 'Mom's kitchen'. But not in our section. She also, not once, offered to refill our drinks.

On a side note the servings of meatloaf were skimpy. My husband's meal seemed fine, but I received about a 1/4 cup of mashed potato, green beans, and one slice of meatloaf. I ended up giving some of my meatloaf to my DD (eating off the child's menu) because she only received about 4 bites of meatloaf and a heaping tablespoon of mashed potato with her meal.

My husband said he would not go back. But on the other side, we couldn't complain about the food itself. It was very good.

I would try 50's. I understand the menu at Sci-Fi has really been cut back and the food not very good. We always eat at Mama Melrose, but we have enjoyed 50's each time we went.

Just there last week and ate at 50's. It was fun and the food was quite good. I had the fish sandwich (I probably won't order that again - not bad just ok), dh had salad with salmon he said it was great, ds had pot roast which I kept eating -it was wonderful, dd had kids meal and other ds had sandwich that he liked. I thought the atmosphere was fun and it sure was nice to be out of the rain. I would eat here again if we ever go back to DS.

thanks for all the responses everyone!

My only other concern with 50s PT is that my Dbf (and me too) are pretty shy people. He specifically told me he didn't want to go anywhere where they would make him "get up and do something" so this might be a deal breaker for 50s.

Overall I feel my options are pretty limited at DHS. Oh well..it'll be a great time no matter where we eat :santa:

We've had good meals at Mama Melrose, 50's Prime Time, and Brown Derby.

Our servers have all been silly at 50's, but I found most know how much teasing to dish out.

have you ever tried Hollywood &Vine? It is a buffet that actually shares its kitchen with the 50's cafe. They have a good selection of lots of different items including stuff for kids and picky eaters and the dessert selection includes make your own sundaes and lots of yummy options.

We struggle to find a good dining experience at HS, we have done both Sci-Fi and the 50's. Both are good, but we look for new adventures especially on the Dining plan. This trip we are taking a boat from HS to Cape May Cafe clambake instead of using our TS at the HS. We don't like seafood but the other offerings look great, and I have heard wonderful things about the desserts.

Good luck in your choice ;)

That sounds like a good idea, maybe I'll try to make ADRs for an earlier dinner and we can go back to the park to see the Osborne lights.

Thanks =)

I like the 50s--hubby gets a kick out of it and the kids are cracked up the whole time. The food has been so-so, or great. Never bad. I guess I could try somewhere else, but it makes fun family memories and that's what our trips are about---so I guess in Jan you know where I 'll be eating on our HS day!!!! I would like to try Hollywood and Vine. Dh liked the Brown Derby, I wasn't too impressed and my kids hated it! So, we send hubby over there for Lunch with an Imagineer and we go to Toy Story Pizza Planet. Works great!!!!

For H&V, reviews were scaring me, what is good and what should i totally avoid eating here :scared:

Well after much thinking and questioning, I finally figured out what I'm going to do:

-I still love love Sci-Fi dine in and it's become a sort-of tradition on all my Disney trips, I just don't think that it's worth a TS credit. SO...I've booked a lunch here and I'm going to pay OOP.
-I played with the idea of leaving the park for dinner, but I just don't want to rush around or miss rides or worry about getting back to the park to see the Osbourne lights. So I booked dinner at 50s Prime Time since everyone loved it (and I saw pictures of the S'mores dessert lol)
-While I was switching this around I booked a breakfast at Boma that we are going to pay for OOP as well. This is our only breakfast all week, and I really wanted to try it.

I'm excited!!
