Need help to get excited about the Contemporary

I ditto all the good that has been said about the CR. I LOVE it there. It's bursting with energy, it has cool seating areas with huge windows, the Outer Rim has wonderful bartenders, and knowing it's Walt's special baby makes it my favorite!

I'm a CR convert! Never, ever wanted to stay there, but we did just that in October. We loved it! I loved the large rooms, loved the decor and we requested a view of the lake, which was great to look out over the water. I even like the boring pool! Great restaurants of course. I can't think of anything negative. We'll be back in the tower next October for F&WF.

I'm confused. Why did you book there if you don't think you'll like the decor and you don't like any of the restaurants?
My TA suggested it, I like to try new resorts and I have small kids where the monorail and MK entrance will be convenient. Oh did I mention the price? 150/night.

Thank you all. I am getting excited about it all.

Funny you are unsure about CR while it is my absolute dream resort. I can't afford to stay there but if I could chose any resort that would be it. It just seems so magical!

Three words: Outer Rim Lounge. One of the few hotel bars open during the day. I like to go there midafternoon to get a glass or two of wine. Nice way to take a break from the Magic Kingdom. If you are into football on weekends they have the TV's tuned to games.

The other plus, is the shopping. It is like a mini-World of Disney store on the fourth floor.

We are just back from the AKL and trying to decide what resort to book for our early May trip. After reading this thread, I think I know where I want to be! I had never even considered the Contemporary before now. Anyone know approx what concierge runs there?

I too was not excited about going to stay at CR....but, tagged along on my spouses business trip. I loved it, we went in the summer and used the pool alot. Walking to MK, the shops in CR, Chef Mickeys, Outer Rim--everything everyone has mentioned already :smooth: . It was great. We had a tower room that faced the Lagoon. The rooms are HUGE, another bonus that I loved. I have not returned to this resort only bcs I love the EPCOT area resorts for convienence.

A silly tradition we have at this hotel...racing to see if we can get up the stairs faster than our family that is on the escalators! It is a workout (not that you need it after walking so much at the parks!) :cool1:

we stayed tower club and it was about 300 a night on the fall special. I dont think they have deals on the 14th floor very often . I believe the price is about 450 a night for a regular room the suites are very expensive. Tower club was great though we got great concierge service just not as much food as on the 14th floor.

We are at the Contemporary right now. :) The CMs are AMAZING here -- not only did they give us EVERY request that we had asked for, but they also brought balloon bouquets for both my birthday boy (who is celebrating his 1st birthday) AND my daughter. We see Wishes every night from our balcony on the 11th floor. The coffee bar here is HEAVENLY and the 24-hour pool (with VERY warm spa!) is SO nice right now! I had read so many posts bashing the Contemporary I was alsmot afraid right before we arrived -- and now I am HOOKED! The California Grill is also very much kid-friendly. CM Vicky was great with both of our children and I will be writing a letter to Disney about her as well as our CM Lori at the front desk.

I had said that nothing woud top our stay at the Boardwalk. Well, that's no longer true. :)

Have stayed at the Contemporary 2x (so far) and have enjoyed it. DH was the one who wanted to stay there so I gave in and was glad that I did. The convenience to the MK is GREAT! While everyone is waiting in the long lines for the ferry, bus or monorail, you can just walk back! We like doing the loop on the monorail just for fun. The shops are cool. My kids are 5 & 10 and LOVE the arcade! Part of it has games with tickets like Chuckee Cheese (sp?) and you can redeem them for prizes. (yes, if you ask my kids what they liked best about their November trip where we stayed at the CR & then YC and did all kinds of fun things - they will probably tell you they liked the arcade best. :) )

We still enjoy just sitting and watching the monorail go by!

But one thing for all you folks going to the Contemporary soon - PLEASE complain that they no longer have the Disney character voices on the elevators! :( We were told that they took them out since the CR is a big convention hotel and the conventioneers said it was "unprofessional" HUH?!?!?! IT'S A DISNEY RESORT!!!!!

We have stayed on the 14th floor 2x with a water view and really enjoyed it. The balconies are HUGE and so are the rooms. I reallly like that the toilet is separate so more than one person can get ready at a time in the morning.

The CM's on the 14th floor are nice and helped us with whatever we needed. There is also one CM - darn I can't remember his name! - who has been there a while and has some interesting facts and stories he can tell you about. I love it when the CM's get talking Disney... :)

We have stayed at the CR once. We would gladly stay there again, although oujr fave is the Poly. My kids LOVED the garden wing (north) for its convenience. The arcade was wonderful - the boys LOVED it - by far the best one at any of the hotels we had been to.

The rooms were great - colorful, happy. Different than the others, but very modern and the kids really enjoyed it.

We had a regular room - but could really see the lake and were able to watch the Electrical Water Pageant from the room.

I think you will love it....just relax - enjoy the space - enjoy the location.....we also thought the little quick counter service place near the arcade was passable....decent food and choices.....we ate - the kids played!

Have a great time!

I love this thread!!!! We're going to be staying at the CR Dec 2005 and it's getting me so excited!! :goodvibes

We've never stayed at CR but would like to on our next trip. Just one question about the tower rooms--are they noisy? It seems noise from the lobby and especially Chef Mickeys would drift upwards.

vhoffman- the rooms are very quiet. We're staying at the CR for the 5th time next July. we love it for all the reasons mentioned. My kids refuse to stay any where else!

vhoffman, we stayed at the CR a few years back, tower room--in July. (I don't recall what floor we were on but it must have been pretty low) I did have issues with the noise of the hotel--but, many people post that they have never had a problem with it. We were down at the end by Chef Mickeys (which we all LOVE!!) and we could hear the music and crowd in the mornings and evenings. Also, going to sleep before 1030pm was impossible as our room faced the lagoon and the water parade happens every night. It is a great feature, just a little late for my taste since we get up early to hit EE at the parks. Is the water parade always that late or just in the summer?
I was pleasantly surprised by CR and would stay there again, but probably only for a few days.

We stayed at the Contemporary about 3 years ago in January. It was our first stay in a monorail resort. We didn't have a tower room, as my husband was afraid the sound of the monorail going through would be disturbing, so instead we opted for a Garden view, and were in the South Wing overlooking Bay Lake. It was a wonderful view, quiet and peaceful! The walk to the main building wasn't bad, either. We really enjoyed being at the Contemporary. There was alot of energy. It is truly Mickey's Resort. There are many Mickey's, such as the sculptures, in the designs in the floors, and murals. Hidden Mickey hunts were alot of fun. We liked shopping on the 4th level, and relaxing at the Outer Rim lounge overlooking the pools and Bay Lake. The castmembers were very nice. We liked going to the coffee bar located on the ground level under the esculators, too. We made that our 1st stop every morning. We liked the layout of the rooms. Very large with plenty of room to spread out. The bathrooms had a nice layout, as well. We didn't mind the color scheme, as it fit in with the environment. We also loved being able to walk to the Magic Kingdom.

I hope that you find your stay as enjoyable as we did ours, and that you can find many things to excite you about staying at The Contemporary, otherwise known as Mickey's Resort!

Never had a problem with noise from downstairs. I find people passing in front of the rooms the only noise problem.

We are going next December, and I definitely want to stay at the Contemporary. I really want to try a deluxe, and the Contemporary is the only one I see myself staying in. I'm not thrilled about the decor, but I am excited about the monorail and closeness to MK. My biggest choice is to stay tower or wing. This is probably going to be the only time we ever stay deluxe, so I want to experience it to the fullest, but at the same time, I don't know if I want to spend that much money.
