Need help to get excited about the Contemporary

The CR was our “resort of choice” for many years beginning in 1981. I have many fond memories of staying there. At that time, the décor of the rooms was a mauve shade – very light and airy. We are now DVC members and rarely stay at the hotels, but we did stay there in March 2000 for a quick spring break trip. We were really disappointed with the new décor – it is REALLY bright and for me, somewhat overwhelming. The room looked a lot smaller, although I know that is impossible.

However, it is really nice to be able to walk to the MK and board the monorail to visit the other hotels. Shopping there, as mentioned, is great. The restaurants are terrific for the most part. It is easy to get to Fort Wilderness to see the Hoop-de-Doo Revue. The pool area is really nice – totally new from my earlier stays. The bathrooms are gigantic. The CR holds a special place in my heart – it was my introduction to Disney magic and many memorable moments.

Looked on Deb Wills site and the pool looked a little bland for lack of a better word. If that's not the case, please let me know why. I'm considering trying the CR,love the location, but the pool is the only reason I'm hesitating. Thanks.

awatt
the pool is not the greatest pools of the deluxes but my ds 8 loved it the slide is great and one thing i really liked was the number of lifeguards watching over . no bar in the pool but a nice one a few feet away and the boat rentals are also right there which were alot of fun. the cr is great dont let the pool change your mind how much time are you really going to spend at the pool anyway
ps go back a page and look at my post about what they do with the kids to open the pool it was really neat!

I don't know of any of the resort pools that have a bar that you can swim up to... most are in the pool area, but away from the actual pool.

Thanks for your input, that helps alot. We will be going in July,so plan on using the pool every day for a break. Sounds like it will be fine.

I want to spend two nights at CR before our Magic cruise in Dec.'05. Can someone tell me how long the walk is from the wings to the tower? If I requested a room close to the tower would the walk to the lobby/monorail be pretty short? Thanks!

goofyshell- the walk from the wings to the tower takes just a couple minutes, depending on where you are in the wings. :)

Thanks, Kteacher. I couldn't afford to stay in the tower and I'm excited about our North Garden Wing room (hopefully with a patio). I'm very glad to hear about all the wonderful things being said here.

I am so happy that everyone who posted likes the CR. I was really considering changing resorts for our trip in 2 weeks but now I feel sooooo much better about our choice to stay at the CR. THANKS!!
Wendy

FYI: The rumors about renovations are just that at this point. There's no plans to rehab within the next year. The CMs say they don't have it listed. It sounds like they are just making plans on paper right now.

I am so glad I saw this thread...I just booked there for three nights in March - I NEVER thought I would stay there but for a monorail resort the price was to good to pass up. After reading all the bashing threads on CR it is nice to hear I may actually enjot staying there!

So glad I found this thread. As you can see from my timer, we are almost there! We have been twice before (once in the North Wing and once in the Tower). We are in the wings this time which is fine by me! The rooms are bright and large and I, too, love the bathroom!

I had read other threads of those who do not like the CR. Made me wonder if it had gone downhill since our last stay (2000). So glad to find others who love it! I just don't understand those who say there is no Disney theme! How much more Disney can it be? It has the monorail running right through it!

This is my kids favorite resort. The love the location and the rooms. Have talked about it since our last trip there. We have stayed at the AKL, POR, POFQ, and Dolphin since.

Ya'll have made me so excited! I am washing and packing right now!
