hi,

i want to do something special to tell the girls (first time any of us are going to WDW) - they are 7 and 8. We are going in late August but are not telling the girls until July. they spend June at their grandparents house in Arkansas and we dont' want to overshadow their time with them.

But i was looking for some different ideas - would like to spend a day doing something like a riddle or hunt that would lead up to the finale of telling them.

has anyone else done this? any ideas would be great. thanks

Welcome to the DIS, Bobbie JoSue. :)

That sounds like a wonderful idea. I think a scavenger hunt sounds like a great way to tell the kids. I can imagine how much fun I would have thought that was when I was a kid. :)

If you don't get many replies here, you might think about posting this on the Community Board. It gets a lot more traffic and the folks over there come up with great suggestions for topics like this. :)

I'm sure that you will probably do some kind of meal with the characters when you actually take them to Disney World. Well why not start the day off that you are going to tell them when they get up by having breakfast with the characters? If they have any Disney stuffed animals bring them all into the kitchen and have them sitting around the table. Take the girls pictures while they are eating breakfast with the Disney Characters. (They'll just think you've gone crazy!).
(I made a scrapbook for my little niece whom I babysat her while her mom and dad took the older two kids to Disney). I took her picture with our pet dogs and labeled it "Animal Kingdom". I had her picture in the bath tub labeled Typhoon Lagoon. Maybe you can give them lots of word hints?

I love the character breakfast idea. This sounds like so much fun. I am out of the little ones zone but I will soon be getting back into it with my grandson. Keep us posted on your ideas.
