Need help - MASSIVE amounts of weight to lose

Congrats Seaspray on being in the lead that is awesome! Sometimes with scales I think it depends on how level the floor is actually. I can weigh myself in the bathroom and weigh one thing and if I move the scale to the hallway I weigh another.

I did not exercise last night because my calves were killing me! So one day off is not bad. I couldn't wait until Friday to weigh myself. I did this moring and I lost 3.5 lbs! Yeah! Off to a good start so far!

Have a great day everyone! :flower3:

You Go, LaLaroo!! That is awesome!

I can step on my digital :sad2: scale 6 times and get 6 different readings. But I've learned that it always keeps a 3 point spread (i.e., if the highest reading is 159, then the lowest will be 156), so I just jump on & off a bunch and take the lowest reading;) !

AGAVE NECTAR-- comes in a liquid/syrup, like honey but not as thick. I like it because it doesn't have an aftertaste, and it is natural. Stevia is also natural and beneficial, but to me it has an aftertaste. I would rate them both equal in terms of health factor, or maybe give Stevia a little edge in that dept.

Took DS1 (turning 2 in 2weeks!) to pick up his orthotics today! They're like little molded plastic shoes basically, and then he'll wear sandals over them. He's already taking about 7-8 steps, but that pretty much taxes out his lower body, and then his torso keeps going but his feet stay still, and boom! he face-plants on the floor. He thinks it's hysterical, but w/ Downs there can be problems w/ neck injuries, so Mommy doesn't think it's so funny at all! The orthotics should help a lot w/ making it easier to move those hips & bend those knees,:cool1: so I'm thinking he's going to be pretty much unstoppable. Pray for me, ladies!!!

Have a great weekend everyone! Here's to all of us being a little bit healthier tomorrow than we are today!

Hey everyone! Today I spent almost 4 hours outside cleaning/detailing my car in 85 - 90 degree weather... please tell me this counts as activity/exercise! I was so wiped out. We bought me a 2007 Chevy HHR last August and I really like it a lot. So, I thought hmm think I'll clean my car really, really well today. What a chore! See, my precious daughter has begun driving so, my plan is that now that she has her own car ... my car should stay clean. Who am I kidding? I already miss the laffy taffy (her fav. is banana) wrappers in the door pockets!

The good thing is that since I was busy, I didn't over eat! In fact, I didn't use all of my points so, I had an evening snack. Yea!

So, since I was gone last week I feel like I need to get to know everyone who has joined in! Welcome! I feel a bit like a weenie or a cheater because I didn't go to my WW class this week. We were traveling on Monday and I just decided to go next Monday. I am hoping to have done okay. But, even if it isn't good, I'll go on. I am determined to do this. The next big "thing" for me will be between Christmas and New Years. We are planning to go snow skiing in Telluride, Co. Last year I didn't even try. I just hung out at the lodge with other Moms who didn't go. Thing is ... I wanna go! Then, in 2009 our girl will graduate and it will be out 25th wedding anniversary so, we are talking of WDW again! We went in 1999. Really loved the whole trip. We stayed at Port Orleans, it was great!

Well, guess I'll sign off by saying one hour at a time.... we can and will do this!

~~DeAnna~~ :)

P.S. How do I add a countdown to my posts? D

I have been following this thread since it began, and I am hoping to join in, too. I don't quite have 100lbs to lose, but, unfortunately, when I started my weight loss program, I weighed more than 100lbs more than I did when I got married,
My current weight loss goal is 115-120 lbs. That seems reasonable. I have been exercising (which I think is crucial for me), and have been losing consistently 10-12lbs a month. I am now at 156lbs as of this morning. My blood sugars have been less then 100 every time I've checked this week. My blood pressure is down to 120/80, on medication, but, my initial blood pressure was scary--170/100, and at first, I was only able to get it down to 140/95 the first two weeks. My current motivation is the knowledge that when I get to goal, I absolutely can't let myself gain weight again. Just the weight loss the past two weeks, from the "obese" range to the "overweight" range has made a big difference in my control of my other health issues.

Welcome, Delilah!! :wave2:

Good for you for losing that much so far! :thumbsup2 I've only lost 15 pounds so far (15 out of about 75), but I can feel the difference already, and it feels great.

Some of my motivation is health-related too. I'm on two different blood pressure medications and my goal is try and get off of both of them, or if that's not possible (we have a family history of HBP), then at least get off of 1 of them. Also, I wanted to stop eat all the "bad" foods such as high fructose corn syrup, etc, and start eating healthier.

Thanks, LaLaroo!! After yesterday's weigh-in at work I'm STILL in the lead, by quite a large margin! Our contest is about halfway over, so I feel pretty confident that I'll be the winner. (Hey, nothing like feeling optimistic, right?? LOL)

Congrats on your 3.5 weight loss! :yay:

Regarding exercise, my DH and I going to start doing some floor exercises like sit ups, push ups, crunches, etc. I really can't do ANY kind of additional walking because of my foot and joint pain, but I definitely can do weights and resistance exercises.

Terry-

It must be an epidemic!!! I don't think my scale is working either!!!:confused3 It says I only lost .6 for this week, and I ran 3 miles this am before I weighed in!!! But I guess a loss is a loss, so I should be glad I didn't gain!!! Thanks for the mad props on our podcast BTW. We appreciate it!!! We are hopeful that we will get a nomination for the Podcast Awards. We don't expect to win, but it's nice to be nominated!

Hi Veronica! :)

I nominated your site for the Podcast Awards! I listen to you while I'm at work and sometimes I laugh out loud and people wonder what's so funny. LOL You should plan a trip down this way, we could have a GNO in person, with you, Christie, and I! THAT would be a lot of fun! Bring your DH and DD, Christie's DD is 8 years old and is a very friendly little girl princess:

Generally, a good quality scale will weigh consistently and agree with other scales. I know that all the scales at my office weigh the same (I was curious to know if they did, so, I weighed myself on each of them and they do). Furthermore, my scale at home (a doctor type balance scale) agrees with the ones at my office (as much as can be expected that I need to drive home or to work before reweighing myself). Years ago, I had an electronic type scale which was awful. That is actually why I invested in the doctor's type balance scale.

I had a patient the other day who told me that she weighed herself at home, and she weighed 130 lbs. The scale in the exam room weighed her at 140. So, I took her to a different scale, and that agreed with the first. I guess scales at the doctor's office will always weigh you 10 lbs heavier! But not if you are a doctor, yourself. (She was really quite insistent that there must be something wrong with our scales).

Thanks Delilah for the scale info. So my DH took apart the old scale and reinserted the lithium battery back into it and it seemed to be working. So the next morning (yesterday - Friday morning) I weighed myself at home and it worked again. But 15 minutes later it wasn't working so I had to stop at Wal-Mart on the way to work to buy a new scale. I brought the new scale into work, set it all up and weighed myself and it showed me weighing TWO POUNDS MORE than I did at home on the old scale!! :scared1: :scared: :faint: So I RAN out to my van (good thing I decided to bring the old scale to work anyway!) and set it up and fortunately it worked again! So we all got weighed on the old scale AND the new scale and sure enough, they're showing a 2 pound difference between them. So I brought them both home and DH is going to remove the lithium battery from the old scale, I'll go out and pick up a new battery, and then hopefully the old scale will keep working. If it does work, then I'll keep the old scale at work for the duration of the contest, and I'll use the new scale at home.

I can step on my digital :sad2: scale 6 times and get 6 different readings. But I've learned that it always keeps a 3 point spread (i.e., if the highest reading is 159, then the lowest will be 156), so I just jump on & off a bunch and take the lowest reading!

Thanks ashleypmo :) I'll have to check out the agave nector, it sounds good.

Regarding the scales, I've been finding the same thing happening, even with my new scale. I can get 5 different weights from 5 different steps on the scale, within 10 seconds of each other. :confused3 LOL

I'm glad your little DS got the orthotics, let us know how much running around after him you end up doing! :goodvibes

Hi Deanna :)

Yes, all of that work on your car definitely counts as exercise!!
There's nothing wrong with skipping your WW meeting, knowing you'll go back, and get back on track after a vacation.

In 6 days DH and I will be at WDW and we plan on going off our diets, as least somewhat, while we're there. Then when we get back, we'll just get right back to our stricter eating routine. I'm trying to not worry about the potential weight gain! But we've both decided that we do want to go and enjoy some of our favorite meals at our favorite restaurants. :)

Good for you for wanting to go skiing!! I bet you'll have a blast, AND I understand that it's excellent exercise too! :)

Have a great weekend, everyone! :grouphug: :sunny:

Hey SeaSpray! I don't remember if you mentioned if there was a prize involved for you wiping up the pavement with--I mean, losing more weight than DH. I know weight loss is it's own reward (and a grooooovy reward at that:hippie: ).

note***if I lose my train of thought or don't make sense, forgive me. DD3princess: is sitting on my lap throwing me worms (she's the mommy bird and I'm the baby bird), and she keeps yelling "You have to tweet! Baby birds don't say "yum!" It makes typing a tad bit challenging, but it's oh-so-fun:love: !

Yep, DS1 got his orthotics. They're really cute. He has to wear shoes over them because they are plastic & slippery. So we got some of those hiking-type sandals, because they are really easy to adjust to fit over the orthotics, but they are just too stiff. He's having a hard time getting up in them. He's used to being barefoot, or sometimes having his little white walkers, which are much more flexible. I think we're going to return the sandals today and get some aquasox. He'll look a little goofy:goofy: , and I'm not sure how easy they will be to get on over the little boots, but we'll see. I think I may ask the orthotician if we can just put some sort of non-skid material on the orthotics themselves, at least for around the house. He walks fine in them on the carpet, but all of the living area is stained concrete (because when we built the house, we weren't planning on another blessing:cloud9:that would have to go through learning to walk ).

Delilah--sounds like we're neck & neck on our weigh ins. That will give me some extra inspiration to keep it up. I'm a little nervous about a trip we have planned the first weekend of Aug down to San Antonio. Sometimes it's hard to be at someone elses home on this plan, because I basically eat one real meal a day, and the other meals are mostly veggies, sometimes eggs or grilled chicken etc., and it's hard when she's made a really yummy fritatta for breakfast. It's not a problem of resisting, that part's not a prob. It's just I still sometimes worry I'll hurt her feelings, or people will be like "Oh, you can cheat just this weekend, you're on vacation." But 1) I don't think I'll hurt her feelings. She's one of my greatest :cheer2: cheerleaders, always going on about how much I've lost, and 2) no, I can't cheat just this once, because this plan is really based on chemistry, not on net calories or points, etc. It's all about making your body believe you are not a "carb eater." But again, those same people have all seen my "before" and "after", and I don't think they'll argue with the results. Especially when they see me getting to chow down at reward meal!

You ladies are all such an inspiration! I still wonder about OP, MareQ. Anyone heard from her, or know her from other threads or anything???

PS...I have a really, really dirty blue Suburban, if anyone feels like burning off some calories down in the Texas heat....'coz I'm sure not woman enough to do it!:lmao:

because it describes my situation!

I need to lose 100+ pounds. I am ashamed to put that out into cyberspace.

I have read through this thread and am inspired by the support you all have shown each other and would love to join :flower3:

We are all here to help each other on this journey. We are all going to succeed!!! It may take us a while (longer than we would like I am sure) but we will get there!!!:cheer2:

Good Morning, Everyone!

I just wanted to check in. Congrats to everyone on a successful week! In my first week I lost 7.5 lbs! Yeah! 12.5 lbs to go to my mini goal!

Welcome garada! Congrats on deciding to begin your weight loss journey. You already began this journey by making the decision to start losing weight. Like VernRDH suggested you need to choose a plan that will work for you. Right now I am doing Nutrisystem but I only plan on continuing that another 2 weeks until my food is gone then I will be switching to weight watchers! A little exercise and plenty of water and you will be on your way to weight loss! Good luck!

Have a great day!

Hi everyone!! :wave2:

Welcome, garada!! :sunny:

I don't have a lot of time, I'm preparing for my Disney World trip! We're getting picked up in a towncar on Friday morning at 5:30AM! LOL I still have packing to do and other small details to take care of, as well as calling and confirming my towncar reservations for here as well as Orlando. We're staying at the Polynesian which is our favorite Disney resort! And we've decided to eat what we want to eat while we're there, without going totally crazy. We'll probably share most of our meals, which we used to do before we started dieting anyway, because they give you way too much food. We like to do sit-down restaurants, and the portions are huge.

Congrats LaLaroo on your weight loss! WAY TO GO!! :cheer2:

ashleypmo: I'm not in a contest against my DH, the contest is at work, I'm against the people I work with. LOL I told my DH to not get competitive on me; we're in this together, not against each other! LOL

Veronica: I was listening to your podcast at work today...and now I want to go on an Alaskan cruise!! LOL :cold:

Anyway, I'm not sure how much I'll be on between tomorrow and Thursday, but I want to wish everyone continued success in their weight loss/healthy eating efforts! :yay:  :cheer2:

I'll be back next Tuesday, but not sure when I'll get to post! Don't think I've forgotten about all of you! Once I'm settled back home, I'll be back! :cool2:

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

P.S. You guys will probably have to cheer me up after I come back with a weight gain! :guilty:

How do I begin this journey?

Welcome garada!:goodvibes

How do we all begin this journey? One pound at a time. :teacher: My goal weight is a weight that I have been at before. I think I was about 21 at the time.;) ...but I was there, by golly, and I can be there again!

Don't think in terms of 100 pounds. Set a goal every week. As long as you are trending downward over time, that is success. Because you know what? I'd say for most of us the way we got to our present weight is by a pattern of consistent gaining, whether over long years or during specific times of our lives (pregnancy, depression, etc.). So our first step is to stop gaining. Success #1.

Even today after losing 70 pounds, I still find my daily goals more helpful than my monthly or even weekly goals. Today I'm going to drink 12 glasses of water, 6 cups of green tea, remember my cinnamon & chromium (*which BTW Chromium is almost useless if taken w/in two hours of dairy or calcium supplements, FYI--I just read that. ), do my strength training exercises, stay on my WOE, eat lots of raw veggies, etc.

You know what else has helped me? I've noticed that our weight loss is usally more noticable in those areas of our body that are "closest to the bone." i.e., fingers, wrists, forearms, shoulders. I used to be really frustrated by that fact, because of course my goal wasn't to have great collarbones, but a really great, um...derrierre. But you know what? My collarbones are lookin' pretty good! My stepmom was like "ohmygosh! your collarbones are amazing!" whodathunk. And for the first time in an ever-so-long time, my shoulders are, well, pointy-ish. So now I spend lots of time admiring my new-found shoulders and collarbones and even my wrists. (not that I'm like checkin' myself out like a narcissist or something. Just giving myself positive affirmation. ) In the beginning I actually enjoyed the fact that my rings needed resizing.

I've found that focusing on those areas where the payback is quicker really motivate me to keep going for the day I'll be able to say "you know what? my knees are HOT!" So when you need that motivation to do that workout, if you're really having a hard time w/ the squats & the leg lifts, etc., start w/ arm & shoulder work. Once you start to see some results there, you'll feel like Helen Reddy, bay-bee: "I am woman, here me ROAR!"

It's so glad to hear of everyone's progress. My "monthly visitor" just left town (good riddance!), and for that week I never lose anything. Up two pounds at the beginning of the week, and then back to where I started when the week's over, but no matter how good I am, it's like taking a week off. Of course, if I cheat, I pay. So not fair. Anyway, I've been really, really, good at drinking my water today, so I'm hoping my scale will reward me in the morning.

OHMYGOSH--funny scale story. Not so much funny ha-ha, more funny oh-my-gosh-I-think-I'm-gonna-go-jump-off-a-bridge-now. This morning I got on the scale and....nothing. No little red numbers. Nada. So I kick it gently and try again. Nuttin'. So I turn it over and reseat the battery. I set it down and step on, look down and ---here comes the jumpin' of the bridge part--the fool thing reads 55 pounds higher than it did yesterday morning! :scared1: I step on & off, same thing. I kick it (this time, not so gently), 55 pounds higher. I threaten to throw it in the back pasture and let DH run it over with the tractor. Eventually it got that mean streak out of its system and recalibrated or whatever the heck it does and went back to normal. But in the mean time I'm like freakin' the heck out:eek: ! I knew it was wrong, because hubby was doin' the contest thing at work and said the scale there read the same as ours, but still there's that little voice that's screaming "ohmygosh!!! I knew it was too good to be true!"

At the time it was quite tragic, but now I can laugh about it.....almost;) !

Stay cool, Minnie Sistahs!!!

Just had to say, I am so jealous!! We don't go back until May 08!

And Seaspray, you are gonna be walkin' like 80 miles a day, so I think you can eat;) ! Besides, it's the happiest place on earth, so fat grams and carbs don't exist, right??? (So in WDW, every time you say "I don't believe in carbs, does a french fry fall down dead??)

You go LaLaRoo!!! Way to go girl!!!

Keep up the good work!!! Are you going to go to WW meetings or do it online or just on your own? I do it on my own, it has been working out well for me.

VernRDH, Right now I am not doing WW. I am doing Nutrisystem. Once the food is gone from that I am switching over to WW. A lot of the Nutrisystem food is good but some of it is really bad! With Nutrisystem you have to eat their food plus fruits veggies and protein so I am paying them for their food plus have to go grocery shopping! With WW I can get all my food including their brand at the store. Once I start I will most likely be doing it on my own.

Seaspray, I am so jealous! Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks everyone for the congrats! I have to say I look forward to reading and posting on this board everyday. It has helped keep me motivated!

Have a great day everyone!

:cheer2:

Terry-Have a Wonderful time at the Poly!!!:woohoo:

We are hoping to possibly do a group cruise to Alaska in 2009 or 2010. I'll keep you in mind!!!

Weighed in this am at 179.2, another 1.4lb loss for a total of 35.8 lbs!!! I am sooo psyched to be into another "decade". Goodbye 180's. Been nice seeing ya, never gonna see ya again!!!!

Yesterday at work I had a patient notice my weight loss. She is an older woman and she saw me and said How much weight have you lost? She said she could really see it in my face (where I don't see it there at all). She is the first person to notice and it felt really nice to have someone notice!!:cloud9:

Ashley, I know what you mean about collarbones!!! Mine do look awesome, if I do say so myself. Where you really want to see the weight coming off (tummy, thighs) you dont see it as much but the collarbones, wrists, fingers etc, you do notice it. Small victories they are, the rest will follow.
BTW-I am the one in competition with my DH for weight loss before our trip to the World. I am winning at this point, by a pound or two. DH seems to be stuck on the plateau, where I just got off it. He needs to change up his exercise, but he wont listen to me:rolleyes1 . Eventually he will get going again, but hopefully I get a big enough jump on him to win!!! But what to do with my $100 prize-I am thinking about new sports bras or something crazy like that!!:lmao:

Minnie Sistahs-keep up the good work. :grouphug:

:grouphug:

Can I get a WOO-HOO!:cheer2: That is so great! I know what you mean about the "decade" thing. I'll tell my DH: "I'm in the next set of 10s!" and he's like "Wuh???" Because of course I still won't tell him how much I weigh. Even if I get down to 130, I still won't be able to tell him, because I'm afraid that he'll do the math (because you know I'll be going around telling everyone how much I've lost) and figure out how much I used to weigh. Isn't that silly? But that's how my mind works. It's a complicated place, Ashleyland, but I've grown used to it....

That's right--you're the one kickin' hubby's proverbial backside in the contest! I think sportsbras are an excellent investment. I've been scopin' some out meself. I need to find something to keep my "girls" in line. You know that joke that Jeff Foxworthy used to tell (I think it was him...)about women getting older and instead of wearing a 38D they need a 38long??? Sigh:sad1: . 4 pregnancies and losing 70pounds....I'm afraid I resemble that remark! These birds flew south for the winter and never made it back. I buy these really awesome bras at Lane Bryant--they are very flattering--but I'm having trouble w/ swimsuits. I hate having to wear a swimsuit anyway, but the two youngest can't go into the pool by themselves. Used to I could at least think that my top half drew a little bit of attention away from my thighs. Denial??? Oh, you know it. But whatever gets you through, right? But now, even though I wear a 36D, once that bra is gone, it's like someone let all the air out:rotfl2: (no, wait--I mean:guilty: . Or is it:eek: ?)...So I'm thinking a really good sportsbra might be the answer instead of a traditional swimsuit, or underneath, or something. My kids love board shirts, so I thought maybe even a sportsbra under a board shirt might look better.

SeaSpray--have a great time in the World! Is the pic in your siggy from SciFi Theater at MGM? I was thinking my DS8 would get a kick out of it. In addition to being a missionary when he grows up, he wants to write/direct/produce Christian horror movies (there just aren't enough good Christian horror movies, says he)--the kind w/ monsters instead of slashers, and no bad language and everybody keepin their clothes on. I've read that it's best to just go for dessert instead of an actual meal. Did you guys enjoy it?

One of the rubber footies came off my scale yesterday. It was right after the 55pound higher reading incident. I promise the footie coming off was not the result of any physically vengeful actions on my part:angel: . And it keeps giving me these "error" readings. I really, really don't want to drop the $$$ on a new scale. It seems so wrong to have to pay for something I'm just going to end up yelling at....

Have a super day ladies!

Hey--we need an official Minnie Sistahs siggy, ya' think???

I hear ya on the "girls" I was a 42D and now am about a 36CS(S for saggy!!!:rotfl2: ) I asked my trainer at the gym about some exercises to help with "girl perking upping" So now I am doing some free weight fly exercises. If all else fails, once I reach goal, I will get my dr. to say I need reduction and get em lifted right up!!!(I hope it does not come to that, but, I need perky girls, not these saggy old lady things on my front)

I suppose there are worse things, no wait, my girls were one of my best assets!!! I want a decent looking bust!!! See Ashley, things are strange in VeronicaWorld too!!!

Good Morning Minnie Sistahs!

Congrats on the weight loss VernRHD! What a great feeling to be in a new decade! I can't wait to feel that!

Ashley I like the idea of a minnie sistahs siggie! I'm not sure how to make one but maybe one of you ladies do.

This has been a slow week for me only lost 2 lbs but hey 2 lbs is still a loss!

My cousin is in this weight loss study and she has lost 30 lbs and she gave me some inspirtation last night that I want to share with you all. They had to come up with an inspiring quote and hers is "Nothing tastes as good as thin will feel". Isn't that the truth though?! I think I am going to make a sign with that saying and look at it when I get discouraged to get inspired. Of course another thing I can do is come visit with my minnie sistahs!

Have a great day and weekend!

Hey, I think 2 pounds is terriffic!!! It's 2 pounds closer to where you want to be! Next time you're in the grocery store, go to the meat section and find the fattiest cut of meat you can find (like tripe/tripas or something like that) and pick up a 2-lb package of it and take a good look. Wow! If you ask me, losing 2 pounds of that is purty-darn-impressive! :thumbsup2

I think we all need our quotable inspirations. Great idea to make a sign! I read one in a maggie the other day that said "I've come to far to be bossed around by a cookie." I love it! 'Coz sometimes you do just have to say "Listen here, cookie!" (I've found that callin' them out by name really gets their attention) "Listen here, Cookie! You're not the boss of me!":rotfl2:

Gotta go. Guess who has about 12 loads of:laundy: to do?
