Need help - MASSIVE amounts of weight to lose

Veronica,

What a transformation!! 'Weigh' to go sistah! I am so proud of you. That hard work is paying off. Keep it up and keep sharing here to help the rest of us that have a loooong way to go.

Hey Brenda-

Good to see you!!! And I love your 10 lb clippie!!!!:cool1: I hope you are doing well with the BL challenge. I have not lost anything since we started, but with time in the World and being off plan for 5 days, its better than gaining!!!

Keep us posted on your progress-we miss you over here and still care about how you are doing:hug: :grouphug:

Veronica - You look amazing! Congratulations on such a great accomplishment!

I just wanted to report in - today was my first "official" weigh-in and I LOST 6 POUNDS!!!!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I am so happy. I realize that the first week is usually a bigger number of pounds lost than normal, but I will still take it. I am happy with my week overall and hope for a better week exercise-wise next week (I fell on Tuesday night and didn't get in any exercise for two days this week because I was so sore). Anyway, thanks to everyone for their encouragement and I look forward to reading everyone's posts of their own weight loss journey.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hey Sistahs!

I got back late last night from 7 glorious days in Aruba! It is absolutely beautiful there! It was very hot and humid as soon as you walked out the door you started to sweat! We drank lots of water but that really did not seem to help. We were in paradise so that is all that really matters! I probably drank and ate too much but when your on vacation calories don't count right? :rotfl: I am not weighing in until Tuesday because that is WI day for our BL challange.

After what seemed like the longest day of flying ever I came home and have a notice to pick up a parcel from DISNEY at the Post office. I am going first thing tomorrow to see what it is! I can't wait!

Vern - You look FAB-U-LOUS! You go girl! I can see a big difference in your pictures and you look even younger now! Keep up the great work. Glad you had a great trip!

Welcome Larry's Girl! Congrats on your 6lbs loss! That is awesome!

I posted this on our BL thread but I wanted to tell my sistahs about my furbaby Coco. Well Friday before we left we got some not so great news. I noticed Wednesday evening that he was bleeding and I cleaned the wound. I took him to the vets and it turns out he has a tumor that burst and requires surgery (he had two lumps on his back but the vet said it was nothing to worry about at his check up in January). Chances are it is cancer and that is not hopeful. The surgery will cost anywhere from $650 - $2000. The preop testing to see if he can even make it through surgery is around $200 (he's 9). He has had some health issues in the past and had to go through a lot of testing. My mom and I vowed to never put him through anything like that again. We keep thinking well what if it isn't cancer but then what if it is. We just don't know what to do. I think we have to make a very tough decision soon and its not an easy one. Amoungst all of this I had to scramble to find someone to watch him and his siblings (1 brother doggie and 2 sister cats) because the kennel would not take him and we were leaving Saturday early morning. The wound does not look as bad and he is on antibiotics right now so maybe that will help buy us a few more weeks with him.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!

Have a great day sistahs!

Michele

Michele-

Welcome back!!! Glad you had a great time in Aruba. I can only imagine how hot it was if Orlando was like the face of the sun!!!

 Sorry to hear about your pooch-it is very difficult to make the decision about your pets when they are sick. We had to put our cat Okie down not long after we were married, and I still remember it as one of the hardest things we ever did. Prayers for you and Coco.

Well I ran my 5k yesterday-ran the whole thing. No walking. MIL kept with me and I finished in 37:17. Not too bad for the fat girl. I am rather sore today:scared: but tomorrow I am back on the treadmill, running some more.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Michele - Welcome back - glad you had a great vacation. Very sorry to hear about your dog - my daughter's dog has cancer and we won't have him for very much longer, so I do understand your pain. All we can do is love them while we have them and help them not suffer when we can't make it better.

Veronica - That is awesome that you ran a whole 5K! My sister is training for the 5K mini marathon at Disney in January, and I can't IMAGINE how hard it must be to do the whole thing without walking at all. Kudos to you!

I had a pretty good day yesterday. I made rice pasta for dinner (which was not on my eating plan, but my DH wanted some) and I measured out what I thought would be an appropriate portion, so I hope I didn't go overboard with it. I got up early this morning and exercised for 30 minutes, I'm pushing the water and squarely on my eating plan today, so I hope I have a good week.

Hope everyone else has a great day - stay healthy!:thumbsup2

Hey Sistahs!

Thanks to all of you for the concern and prayers for Coco. I really appreciate it. Larry's girl sorry about your DD pooch:sad1: I think you put it best and we just have to love and enjoy them while they are still here.

Well I weighed in today and after a week of not eating so healthy and not too much exercise I only gained 1/2 a pound. Not to shabby. Now I just have to get back into my routine so I can drop that and then some. 14.5 lbs to go by Christmas!

Vern - Congrats on the 5k! You are awesome!

To all my other sistahs, I hope you are having a great week! Check in when you can.

I want to post a few Aruba pics for you all to see but I am not sure how to do that so if anyone has any tips let me know!

Have a great day, everyone!

Michele

Hi Sistahs,

I haven't been over here very much, but I just popped in and I've gotta say:

WOW!

Vern, you look great! It's always inspiring for me to see someone's before/after pics, so thanks for posting.

I don't have much to report, except that I decided to walk 200 miles before our trip in Jan. I'm doing Leslie Sansone tapes and keeping track of the day's mileage on a calendar. As of today, I've walked 20 miles. I started on Sept. 13th, so I still need to pick up the pace a little to get to 200.

Carol

Okay, I am trying to post a few before and during pics of me from WDW. I hope you can see them okay!!

December 06 almost at my heaviest

September 07 42 lbs lighter

Wow Veronica you look GREAT! You can really see the difference between the two pictures. YOU GO GIRL!!!  :cheer2:

SeaSpray-Only 6 more weeks until the EOS!!! You must be totally jazzed. I have 7 more months until I go and I can hardly stand it! DH is looking at a short cruise in the meantime to use up the last of our SWA credit. I say we should go as it is "research" for the podcast!! :rotfl:

That's right, you need to do research!! It's work related!!! :lmao:

6 pound?!?! WOW!!! Keep up the EXCELLENT work!! :thumbsup2 sorry about your fall, I hope you're feeling better now.

Welcome back from Aruba! :) I'm so sorry to hear about Coco :( It's a very difficult decision to make, but I'm sure you'll do the right thing at the right time. We had to put down our first Siamese cat back in 2000. It was so rough not only on DH and I, but also on DSs who were only 12 and 9 at the time :sad1: It's amazing how attached we get to our little furry babies!

A friend of mine loves rice pasta, and it's supposed to be better for you than regular pasta. YAY for you, for the exercise, drinking the water, and eating right!!! :sunny:

That's quite an undertaking but I'm sure you can do it!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hey Sistahs! I've been a bit preoccupied lately, and somehow I must have changed my notification options, because I haven't been getting emails to tell me when there's a new post.

Veronica--:thumbsup2 Wow! What a difference 42 pounds makes, eh? It's amazing!!!

And about the chromium, the first time I tried taking it several years ago, it did nuttin' for me. But then I read that it is blocked by calcium, and so you need to take it several hours away from any dairy or calcium supplements. I've been taking 2 tablets (which I think is 400 mcg?mg? it's 400 of whatever the heck measurement they come in!), and it really kicked me off my plateau.

Carol--200 miles! Wow! I'm impressed! You go girl!

Michele--Glad you had a wonderful trip, and I'm sorry to hear about your furbaby. We had an Akita about 11 years ago who developed a bizarre autoimmune condition where his system attacked the pigment in his eyes and skin. The skin part just made his nose go bald, but it made him go blind. The only treatment option was steriods, and with a new baby in the house (Riley was born the day after he was diagnosed--I literally was in the vet's office 9-1/2 months pregnant), putting a 150 dog on steroids didn't work out.

Larry's Girl--sounds like you are really off to a good start! 6 pounds! Wow!

Well, like I said, I have been preoccupied lately and I need a whine session I guess. A few months back, I noticed a really hard lump, a little larger than a big pea and rock hard, in my neck. I was actually feeling to see if my lymph nodes were enlarged from a sinus infection, and right behind the grape-sized lymph node was this.....lump. Well, my cousin assured me that she had the same thing once and it was nothing, so I let it slide. So while I was at the doc's office w/ bronchitis, I had him check it out. I really expected him to tell me it was nothing....but he used words like "lymphoma" and "biopsy" and "never good." He put me on some big-time-daddy antibiotics, but they didn't help. I go to a specialist Friday, and from there I guess they will remove the suspicious lymph node for a biopsy.

I am trying not to worry, because we don't know anything yet. But with 4 children ages 2-12, as well as the youngest having Down syndrome....well, you guys know where my mind keeps going. So please keep me in your prayers, and I'll let you know how my doc appt. goes.

Have a great day sistahs, and keep up the good work!:grouphug:

Good Morning, Sistahs!

Ashley - I will keep you in my prayers. I hope that everything goes well at the doctors. Here is some pixiedust: and a

Carol - 200 miles! I know you can do it! :cheer2:

Well I have my eating back on track but have not felt like exercising. Hopefully I won't feel so tired this weekend or next week so I can start back up.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Michele

Hi, everybody.

Terry - Thanks for the encouragement. I have to have rice pasta because I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and can't have the gluten in regular pasta. Ashley, doesn't your son also have this? I thought I read that on this thread, but I have read so much on WISH in the last couple of weeks that I could be getting mixed up. Anyway, it has been a big adjustment for me (and for my daughter, who was also found to have celiac when we tested her - since it's genetic, we wanted to make sure she was okay and found out she has just as severe a case as mine). I am glad I found out about it, though, because it is the root cause of a lot of my health issues. Well, that's enough about that - but if anyone is interested in the details, just click on the link to my journal in my sig and read the first post (it's long, but the whole story of my celiac diagnosis is there).

Ashley - I hope your doctor's visit goes well. It's always scary to have to deal with the unknown, but I wish you the best possible outcome!

Haven't felt well the last couple of days and thus haven't exercised, but haven't gotten too far off my eating plan (I do the wheat-free plan from ediets). My second weigh-in is tomorrow and I am hoping for a good one. I'll keep you guys posted!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Well, I'm continuing to make steady progress. I weighed at 136 this morning, which puts me at a little more than 60lbs lost, and, technically, no longer overweight (bmi just less than 25). Actually, I don't see much difference, so, I am continuing to work to get to my goal. Only about 15-20lbs to go.

I have a question, and I think I already know what I am going to do, but, I am hoping to get some support from my friends here. I am travelling by air at the end of October. My driver's license expires in February (my birth month). I can renew my license now for the four years, since it is within 6 months of expiration. I am afraid that I will have difficulty at security because I look so much different than on my license. I don't want TSA to think I just picked up a random ID and am trying to pass myself off as a different person. In February, I will no doubt have reached my weight goal. Now, I am about 15lbs off. The weight on my driver's license has been incorrect for quite some time. (As I mentioned before, until starting to lose weight this time, I hadn't even weighed myself in 6 years). So, do I state my correct weight when I get my new license (which I intend to do to avoid problems at the airport), or do I intentionally lie, and state a weight closer to my goal? What would you do? They don't weigh you at BMV, they simply ask your weight and write down what you say.

Vern--I want to make the observation that you resemble the teaching assistant for 1st and 2nd grade at my son's school. You are quite alot younger than she is, however.

Ashly--I know it is anxiety provoking to get lab results back from the doctor. (I remember a couple weeks ago how stressed I was because I couldn't access the report for my mammogram; I know from experience that means additional views, which isn't usually a good thing). I am keeping you in my prayers. Many types of lymphoma are highly treatable and have about a 90% cure rate. I am hoping you don't have anything like that, but, if you did, I am hoping you have one that is easier to treat. My partner had leukemia when he was an undergraduate (diagnosed by another of my partners shortly before I joined the practice). He is now considered cured, and despite chemotherapy, is the father of two children, aged 3 and 1. (Leukemia is not lymphoma, of course, but, many types of leukemia are also highly treatable).

Best wishes to all.

delilah-136 HOW AWESOME!!! I can't wait to get there!! I have been stuck at 172 but am hoping that the change in my exercise will spur things on.

I had a similar issue when we went to WDW 2 weeks ago. I took my passport which I got in 2005. My hair was WAY longer and darker than it is now, and I am 40 lbs to boot. The woman looked at it and me and handed it back, no questions. I think that they know women can change a bit from their photos, but you could go get a new DL now. I would wait until I got to goal, personally. I don't know what I will do when I reach goal and still have lots of time before my passport expires!

Ashley-thinking of you and hope that your dr. appt turns out okay.

I think you are partly correct on that. However, in 2002, I was traveling alone to Chicago O'Hare for a conference. I had my old DL, pre-weight gain, and the woman from TSA looked at it and studied it, and I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to get back home. I didn't have any other ID with me, certainly not a passport. I make the further observation that I probably look less like the picture on my current DL now than I did in 2002. The weight difference is more significant now than it was then. Even people who work in my office sometimes don't recognize me, if I am in the front office area and not wearing my white lab coat. I think in Indianapolis, they only check to be sure the names match. However, I have another slight security issue (not bad, really). I use my birth name professionally, and my son has my husband's last name. He is Korean, and I am Caucasion, and every time, they ask him who I am. This is a good security measure, I think, but it still makes me uneasy. I am jittery enough about airports without making things hard on myself. I am really thinking of getting the license early, and splitting the difference between my weight at the time (in two weeks) and my goal weight, which even now, is only 10lbs difference either way.

One of the nurses in my office was cracking me up the other day. She was telling me that women always understate their weight by 20lbs. I guess maybe she does, but I don't know that everybody does, at least not intentionally. I would simply not say rather than lie in most instances, however.

I had my second weigh-in with ediets today. I have lost 3.6 pounds this week - a total of 9.6 pounds in two weeks. I was hoping for my 10 pound clippie today, but hopefully I will get it next week!

I am sore from the exercise and still struggling with the portion control, but I'm very glad for the loss and I plan to keep going! Hope everyone has a great weekend!:goodvibes

quick post --we're having company for dinner tomorrow and I've got to get some of my "do-ahead" list done.

Larry's Girl: we had DS2 tested for celiac about a month ago, and it came back negative, which was such a relief. Of course, I still don't know what is causing his, er....unpleasant gastric effects, shall we say. But we'll keep working on that. We already have DD3's peanut allergy to deal with, and I am amazed at how many gluten-free foods either contain or are cross contaminated w/ peanuts, treenuts, or sesame seeds (which she also cannot eat due to possible development of allergies to those foods).

We are, however, doing GF for DS8. I think he has ADD, (not ADHD); he isn't hyperactive, but he has a lot of trouble focusing--he's my little space cadet, always off in the ozone. He's been GF for a week, and I've heard that it takes a couple of weeks for results. Of course, I've heard to really optimize results, I should pull him off all sugars (including fruit sugars) too, but it's already so hard to find things that he enjoys eating doing GF. We don't eat much sugar, and what we do is either real cane sugar, honey, or agave (you know me and my thing about EHFCS =evil high fructose corn syrup:rotfl: ).

OH.....Thank you for all of your well-wishes & prayers while I've been dealing with my health. The doc I saw today doesn't think we're looking at lymphoma. YEA! I have an MRI scheduled in a week or so for MS, and it will include my neck so he will take a look at that. He actually found several other swollen nodes, smaller than the one my doctor was worried about. I'm not sure what he thinks is going on--I think he told me, maybe something about calcification? but all I heard was "it doesn't look like lymphoma..." and that was good enough for me! He said if it were, the node would be larger, even in the early stages.

Well, I have to go make my polenta for dinner tomorrow. We are on Italy in our Epcot for Home Schoolers curriculum, so we are preparing an Italian feast for our good friends to enjoy with us. I am NOT going over my hour tomorrow! I will dawdle at the beginning of the meal while they all get started, so that I can fit my dessert & coffee in. These friends know about my WOE, so they understand.

Take care all!

Hi all-

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. Seems like everyone including myself is really busy!!!

Ashley-how did your doctors/test go? Thinking good thoughts for you.

Larrysgirl-how goes it on your diet? You are off to a great start, keep up the good work.

delilah-you are an inspiration. You are almost to your goal, how wonderful. I can't wait to get there, but I am trying to enjoy the journey along the way.

LaLaroo-are you back in the swing of things now that you are back from paradise? Hope you are doing well.

SeaSpray-Only a few weeks until your cruise on EOS!!! I am so excited for you, can't wait to hear all about it. Check over on the CC board, someone posted a thread about crowncast! And I don't even know them!!

To our other Sistahs-jump back in and let us know how you are doing!!!

Veronica and the sistahs,

I'll jump in today and say Howdy y'all. My weight loss journey lately has been like a wild rollercoaster ride. When it comes to doing what I know I need to do sometimes I am up, way up, and then down, way down. I have been down lately but I am now on the way back up. This is just SOOOO hard.

DS is getting married November 30 and I want to feel fabulous at the wedding. I am down 15 pounds and if I work hard and really get my act together I can reach my goal of 50 pounds by the wedding. If I keep screwing up I can kiss that goal good by. I know I can work hard and accomplish this. Reaching the goal will be a great incentive to get me through the holidays.

Ashley, :grouphug: Please keep us posted about your current health issues. We care about you and hope everything turns out well.

To all the Sistahs, enjoy the day and make it a great one. You make the choices and you can accomplish whatever you want to today if you work for it.

Have a healthy day!

Mornin' all! I have been PC challeged here of late. Gosh, for a couple of months it seems. Let's see....we had the week of no air conditioning, then it was food poisoning, then the in-laws were in town, the start of the home schooling year was in there around that time, then bronchitis, then the two weeks of mental paralysis around the lymphoma scare, and now DS8 & DD3 are recuperating from some very mean virus. The main symptom was a fever of over 102 that did not respond to the every three hour rotation of tylenol & motrin until I'd been doing it for about 12 hours. Now their fevers are down w/out meds for over 24 hours, but they are still exhausted. DD3 is still very pale & has purple bags under her eyes. She is eating a little bit here & there, but not much. She was also throwing up, but luckily she hadn't had much of an appetite before she became symptomatic, so that part wasn't too bad for her. DS8 never threw up, but I can't get him to eat--still, and this is day 3-- because he's afraid he will. He is drinking lots of water, but I can't even get him to nibble a cracker.

Thanks for asking about my health, Veronica! I am so thankful that the ENT doesn't think my lump is lymphoma. He's not exactly sure what it is, but I have an MRI scheduled next week, and he's requesting a copy of it as well to take a look. During that two weeks --"back when I was dying" as I refer to it;) -- God really did a lot of work on me. He brought me to this place of such amazing trust in His plan. My biggest fear was leaving 4 children behind, esp. w/ the youngest having Down syndrome. But I came to realize that I was relying too much on myself, and that I could trust the hands that formed the Earth, the hands that knit these children together in my womb, to take care of them. I also just decided to really cull out all the stress in my life, to rework priorities. Joy, peace, love, laughter.

Brenda--good to hear from you! GIrl, you will be fab for that wedding. The good thing about getting healthy is that even while we are on the journey, our fab is coming out!

BTW--did not stay w/in my hour when we had our friends over for dinner. I think it was the wine that did me in. But oh it was good! Chianti. Nuff said. But I was derailed for two more days afterwards. It's that monthly dose of hormones I guess, coz I was Ms. Rationalizer. But last week I was able to buy--get this--a pair of pants in a size M! I think this particular style must run a little big, but I don't care--there's an M on the tag. There is no way I'm going to let myself go now. So I sat down and watched "Biggest Loser" and got all inspired.

Does Gillian remind anyone of Hildi St. Thomas from Trading Spaces? Maybe it's just her voice.

Happy losing sistahs!:grouphug:
