Need help identifying a fish I caught

I was fishing yesterday and caught this ugly thing. he was about 8" long. Caught it shore fishing in the gulf. Any thoughts?

wow, that thing really is ugly! it looks like some sort of eel. does it have any fins? i can't tell from the picture.

I don't remember but it had huge gills that took up most of its head area. Made it hard to get the hook out.
