Need help getting pumped up about SSR...

No need to get nasty...just thought I'd get some friendly people giving me some positive reasons to try out SSR.

This is exactly what turns me off to wanting to join in on thread discussions.

It is friendly to all those who love SSR, they feel the same way they just don;t want to say it.

No really, if you don;t like coming home after the parks and relaxing and not being bother by 9 million people you are going to hate it. So best not to try it and stay away

Well...all I can say is, my husband and I bought SSR in February. We are fortunate enought that we paid cash and we could have bought wherever we wanted...we chose SSR hands down. We love Disney and I love going to the parks, but to be quite frank, I don't need Mickey Mouse following me home... when I leave the parks each day, I've pretty much had ENOUGH! I love going back to such elegance, it's a romantic, sophisticatesd resort. DTD is so much fun for adults, and the beauty of the resort is second to none. Every area of SSR is a picture perfect post card setting. I have pictures of SSR on my screen saver at work and people always say "WOW, where is that", when I tell them Disney they always say "Disney?? No way, its so gorgeous", and it really is!

I booked SS for a last minute trip in August and loved it. We usually stay at BCV and OKW. We were in the building right across from the Congess Park bus stop. My ds loved the walk to DD. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

This picture is so beautiful but the picture in your signature of the "Vette Chicklet" as Jabba Jaw is just hysterically cute!!! Now I have the Jabba Jaw theme song stuck in my head.

SSR is wonderful. We own there and also just spent three wonderful nights there last week. Our third trip "home" and it was perfect as always.

The resort is finished and beautiful. The new pool area of the Grandstand is fun for kids (spray things) and adults (pool bar). The resort is centrally located. DTD is a zero thing for me too (although we just spent four really fun hours at Disney Quest) but I think the location of this resort is still nothing shabby.

The cm's at SSR were wonderful and I think Artist's Palette is one of the best cs places on WDW property. The resort is spread out, however I have stayed in the Paddock section before and still found the walks to the main area quite doable. My hallway at Boardwalk felt like that hallway in the movie the Shining. It just kept getting longer and longer. Hated that. Hated the lack of cs at BWV too.

I think you never know until you give a try. I cannot imagine that SSR would be so awful you couldn't have a wonderful vacation. It you enjoy tranquil beauty the grounds will not disappoint. If you like the swim the main pool at the Springs and the quiet pools (Grandstand's in particular) will not disappoint. The food at AP is quite good for a quick bite. And if you don't have a car having the resort buses right there at DTD is great for resort dining. If you do have a car, being able to park right outside your unit is wonderful. To me SSR and OKW seem more convenient if you do all four parks. BWV/BC are great for Epcot and MGM but the bus sharing to the other parks stinks.

Clear your head and get excited, I think if you go in with a good attitude you will be pleasantly surprised. If you go in dreading it, it will probably be a self fulfilling prophecy. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks Amy and Dan...the more I read these responses, the more excited I get about trying SSR! We'll have a rental car so it'll be nice to park close and I've been looking at lots of photos. Most everyone on this thread has really helped me to feel a bit more excited about our upcoming stay.

It's self sevice with the usual choices: coffee, tea, hot chocolate plus a soda fountain with Sprite, Coke, Diet Coke, Fanta Orange, Minute Maid Lemonade, Vault with an ice dispenser.

They also offer a host of little condiments and extras: lemon slices, all the sweeteners, creamer, jams, butter, parmesan cheese, ketchup, mustard, relish, handi-wipes, etc.

I was one of the people who griped abut SSR and its size.

Then we went stay there.

We ended up doing an addon while we were there.

I had to come back to the boards and eat some crow.

SSR is a nice resort that gets a bad rap from people like myself who griped about it before staying there.

You will enjoy it.

I think it is so relaxing there...and not a lot of noise. For my grands, they need to have some down time after the parks...and they love to go to the Artist Pallette and draw on the big tablets. SSR really feels like a resort we would go to when we were kids...activities going on, the nice pools, love the Turf Club...and boats to DTD...sitting on the benches along the water at night and watching the world go by. I just love it there.

This was our feeling exactly. While we love the Poly, my family wanted to start coming as a family (10 of us)...staying at the Poly...3 rooms for a week$$$. DVC started making sense for us. And we had the very same feelings about SSR, it was a place that we could bring the kids and the kids could bring their kids...downtime from the parks and places to relax/walk.
Some people want to be in a "hotel" setting, but we like the spread out feeling and activities of SSR.

That is really it in a nutshell. We just stayed at SSR and OKW from the 25th to the 4th. I love, love, love both of those resorts! They are both the only resorts I can imagine going to just to stay, no parks at all, and still have a fun, relaxing and activity filled vacation. I know that to many, the hotel amenities and feel of BW, BC and VWL and now AKV are what makes the vacation for them. But there is also a large group that love the spread out feel of OKW and SSR, don't want interior hallways, room service and enjoy the the grounds, the multiple buildings and the feeling of being at a condo not a hotel. Although there are still lots of hotel touches at these reosorts, they are just not as obvious. Its truly one of those things you don't know until you try it, both ways. I have and for me the feel and structure of OKW and SSR are the best and I'll probably never go anywhere else!

We stayed at SSR twice now (our home resort) and went to Boardwalk both times...I loved the Boardwalk area but have to say that I would rather be close to DTD then the Boardwalk...Being close to MGM/Epcot is a huge plus but if you don't mind the Disney Transportation then my vote goes for SSR...Spa/Pool is great/Splash area is great/Turf Club is very good/Boat ride to DTD is very nice (or walk)...Very nice to come back to after walking 15 miles at a park all day...Just my 2 cents...You shouldn't be disappointed...Request an area that you think you want to stay in and you should get it...

Insidious the way it does that, eh? I do hope I get the chance to do a few days at BWV next September just so I can try this "stay in a hotel by the theme park" thing everyone raves about. For this "always offsite" gal, SSR is the best of both worlds to me. I get to be on-property while still feeling like I have my own private corner to enjoy.

We love SSR... Frankly it has a bad rep on here from some people but it is a terrific place... We don't come to WDW for the park on some trips and SSr and OKW are perfect for quick 'getaway' trips... SSR is a beautiful place...

We have our first trip to SS next week, and this thread has totally helped me get excited. We had a question about Artist Palatte-- do they serve dinner there? On another site they only had breakfast and lunch menus, so I was concerned they closed at night.

If not, can you get take-out from the Turf Club? I loved the menu, but was late making my dining reservations and all I could get was 8:30pm That would not work with the 3 kiddies.....

Personally, we have not stayed at SSR. We toured it like you a few years ago and also thought to be like a ghost town, but SSR is now built out and I am sure it is bustling with activities. All things considered it is Disney and a very special place to stay. You are in the world so transportation is pretty easy. I have heard many happy reviews lately and would think the resort is starting to come in. We personally prefer the small resort like VB, but compared to anything outside of Disney, I am sure SSR has figured out how to make their guests feel at home, comfortable, and entertained. You are in the WORLD... that really means so much.

Absolutely they're open. We often chose to have dinner at AP instead of elsewhere. Their chef is the same as Turf Club and they have a revolving set of chef's specials throughout the week. I love the roast chicken, garlic potatoes and veggies. My dad goes for the pot roast.

Usually the dinner selections are a mixture of regular lunch fare (chicken fingers for the kiddies, flatbreads for the grown-ups) and whatever the chef has cooked up special that night.

A lot of folks (us included) would grab some dinner at AP and take it to the pool to watch the 8pm movie. (M, W, F when we were there in October.)

Yes on that dinner question! We also had some very good items at the AP while there this summer. The portions are big (or at least to me they are).
They had different selections everyday and its well posted what they have.
