I am currently planning our 1st trip to Disneyland and have a few questions. I wanted to stay at a disney hotel after going to disneyworld, but after doing some research I'm not sure if it is worth the added $450 for 4 nights over just staying at HOJO, FFI or even another off site hotel (I'm open to suggestions). My kiddos are 2,5&5(twins) so the pool at HOJOpirate: looks great but is it really warm enough in November and I don't want to spend alot of time at the pool anyway. Short walking distance is a must with the 3 little ones!
Any advice would be great...thanks in advance!!!

Its not heated so probably too cold for swimming in November. Its more of a 7-10 minute walk.

It actually IS heated. There is another discussion on this forum a few posts down about the HoJo pool, and the current temp setting being a bit too cool for most guests.

They have a large hot tub right next to the Pirate Play area as well.

Im gonna say it totally depends on where your from...if your from CA, NV, or AZ Im going to say no its too cold lol...but anywhere else and people seem to think its warm here for some unknown reason:confused3...however, and I know we are talking about pools here...but I have to say (and Ive said before) imo, Disneyland Hotel is nowhere near magical like it used to be...in fact its lost so much appeal for me personally that I decided last Oct., after staying there for 4 nights, not to spend my money there anymore...I'd rather save it and stay at Hojo and use it all up at the park...its so sad how much they've done away with and the beds there are so high that i have to have help getting up and once im there im done.....I cant get out till morning or else i will have to deal with getting a boost again:rotfl2:...maybe I should have asked for a step stool:rolleyes1

I really like Hojo's, especially at the ET rate, but the walk isn't exactly short.

What resort hotel are you considering? The GCH is really the only one with a short walk -- the other two are about the same distance to the front gates as Hojo's.

The hotels outside are good bargains, but they do not compare to the resorts at WDW and the magic you are immersed in 24/7. If you stayed there, you know what I mean. The hotels surrounding Disneyland are nice, comfortable, and affordable, but they are motels on a main street with pizza parlors, fast food restaurants, sub shops, etc all around. Convenient, easy on the budget, and great for families. BUT, --you are not going to get the same feeling as you did staying on Disney property at WDW. Just be aware of this and you'll be fine. Once you walk out of the gates of Disneyland, the "magic" stays in Disneyland. Make your decision based on $$$, and don't try to compare your experience staying on property at WDW to staying across the street from Disneyland. Easy on the pocketbook, but not the same experience. I hope you and your little ones have a wonderful time.:thumbsup2

The Hojo Pirate play area for kids is not heated. The other pool is supposedly heated, although many beg to differ.
OP, I would save the money and stay offsite. I like Hojos and I really like Fairfield Inn too. FFI is about 4-5 minutes closer to the DL entrance than Hojos and a lot closer to Mimi's, Millie's and McDonald's. At the end of a long day, or a long stay at DL, those extra walking minutes add up pretty quick especially with kids.
