Folks, it appears that I've had a reaction to something I ate. I think it is the white chocolate caramel apple pie apple I brought home from WDW (why, oh why did it have to be that yummy apple).

Anyway, I've developed some bumps mainly on my right arm. They are very tiny. They aren't red and aren't itchy but I would say that the skin is slightly more sensitive. It isn't really anything except looking kind of icky. I've taken a couple doses of Benedry and it didn't do anything. I'm now trying topical hydrocortisone.

Does anyone have any other treatments (topical or systemic) that might be useful and help these bumps go away sooner?

I don't think its from something you ate.
did you just get back from wdw?

Allergic reactions can be very odd; however, that doesn't sound like a food reaction.

Generally, if you have a reaction to food, you are going to get it bi-laterally. For instance, one arm won't break out, but both arms will.

I had a reaction a few weeks ago to some cherry pie filling (I believe it was the red dye). A few hours after I ate it, I had some small hives/bumps (tiny) splattered on my inner thighs, hips and lower abdomen. If they had occurred on just one leg, I would have figured it was a contact rash rather than something I ate.

It is on both arms but mainly on my right arm. Also a bit on the back of my neck.

It sounds like some kind of contact dermatitis to me. Maybe you are having a reaction to the detergent they used at WDW.

I think that if I was having a reaction to the detergent, it would have happened after one of the 5 nights I slept there rather than after I got home and ate the apple.

if you know its the apple, why did you ask for opinions on what it could be?;)

I'm not a doctor, but I used to get sun poisoning quite often when I was younger when we went to Disney.

It could be anything, though. I suggest you get in to see your doctor tomorrow morning.. if not, go to urgent care!

Hope it clears up.

I don't think its a food allergic reaction. Food allergic reactions can present in odd ways occassionally but it general, you usually do develop a rash or hives of some sort. Not necessarily just little bumps especially since they are not red and dont itch.
I am allergic to a couple fo different foods ranging from mild to anaphylaxis and even with the mild reactions I get a rash. It's a full body just red rash. Kind of looks like a sunburn but itches. Like a PP mentioned, she got small hives/bumps on both legs after eating something. That is an allergic reaction

It definitely sounds more like a contact dermatitis situation. I have severe eczema and I am like 10 times more sensitive to eveyrthing then most people are. But i've never had a contact situation where my skin did not itch because of it.

Benedryl and hydrocrtisone are the only two real treatments for an allergic reaction. If neither of those worked, I can't imagine that it is actually an allergic reaction.

If you are that concerned about it, I would call your doctor tomorrow and see what they say. They will probably either say that it is not an allergic reaction or will want to test you just to make sure. Anytime you think you have an allergic reaction to something new you should call your doctor anyways because if it is an actual allergy, any more reactions could get much much worse

I didn't ask for opinions on what it could be. I asked if anyone had any remedies besides benedryl and hydrocortisone.

I'm not going to go to the doctor because it certainly doesn't warrant it. I know it will clear up. I was just hoping for ideas to help it along.

It appears that the hydrocortisone has helped some.

I would say that the skin is more sensitive. Some might call it itchy but I don't really have the urge to scratch it a lot but I can tell it's there.

I am not that concerned about it and I really don't think it warrants a visit to the doctor (unless it doesn't go away in a few days).

I really was just wondering if anybody had any other remedies besides benedryl and hydrocortisone that might help it go away faster.

I know it's uncommon, but my sister's reaction to her food allergen sounds very much like this - bumps on one arm or one leg. And we know it's a food allergy, not contact dermatitis.

Well the OP came back and clarified that it was on both arms and her neck which kind of makes a food allergy more plausible.

As with allergies, ANYTHING can happen but there are definitely more standard presentations and it *usually* is bilateral.

I know, for me, that when I react to something I've eaten it takes days for the bumps to go away and they get aggravated when I shower or bathe. That seems different then when I get a type of dermatitis.

To clarify, of the total affected area, I'd say 85% is on my right arm, 7% on my left arm, and 8% on the back of my neck.

This is why I said "mainly" my right arm.

I'm happy to report that the bumps are going away. I think the hydrocortisone helped.

I had originally posted right after I applied the hydrocortisone so I didn't know if it was going to help yet.

You should go to an allergist and get tested to be SURE what it was so you can avoid it in the future. Food allergies are very dangerous because the VERY next time you eat that trigger, you could go into anaphylactic shock (per ds's allergist).

It almost sounds like that I got on my legs when I was in Disney. It was from the sun bouncing off the black pavement and the hitting my legs...it looked like a million little flea bites but they didnt itch, just were sore...it was kinda of like a light sun burn but patchier...

LOL, but it's in our Dis nature to diagnose you, don't you know that??:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Try some cold water, that helped me...the other thing that helped was diaper rash cream....
