This is driving me crazy and I figured someone on the DIS will know!

DH and I are listening to the audio book of Attack of the Clones. As we were listening tonight, a few questions began to pop into my mind regarding Luke and Leia...

I know that Luke doesn't know about his father until much later in life. Did he ever know his mother?

And I know that Leia has a stepfather that she refers to as her father, but did she know her mother?

And did Anakin know about Luke and Leia?

DH was able to answer my other questions, but these are baffling us!

ETA...i've just realized that these questions may not be answered yet! But I thought maybe there might be more background info that may have been in books 4, 5, and 6...

When Luke and Leia are talking on the bridge in the village in episode 6 he asks her if she remembers her mother. She says just a little and that she dies when Leia was very young and when he asks her more she says that she remembers her being sad. Luke then says he has no memory of his mother. I think it is after that he reveals that Leia is his sister.
The twins were kept a secret from their father because he had already turned to evil. I'm not sure when Darth Vader realizes Luke is his son but my daughter informs me that at the end of episode 5 after Darth has cut off Luke's hand Vader says "Luke I am your father" Luke then lets go and falls and Leia has Lando turn the Millenium Falcon around to catch Luke. Vader realizes Luke has a sister when they duel in episode 6 "sister, you have a sister, your thoughts have betrayed her too"

Maybe we have seen these movies a time or two too many. My daughter's friend keeps saying "these are just movies" how sad for her!!

Anakin/Darth did not know about Leia until he meets Luke. He says something like ObiWan was right to hide your sister.....

I forget the details, but he didn't know Amadala was a queen....otherwise we would have heard a lot more complaining from him while with Uncle Owen on Tatooine. ;)

thank you so very much!! it's been driving me insane trying to remember that stuff. it's been soooooo long since i've seen episodes 4, 5, and 6!

According to the story (if I remember right):

In Ep. 2 Anakin and Padma get married in secret cause Jedis aren't supposed to fall in love.
After that Anakin turns bad and goes into the service of the Emperor and Padma is pregnant, Obi wan realizes that he needs to hide the babies. He hides Luke with Owen, his mother's 2nd husband and he hides Leia with Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits) who is opposed to the emperor.

Luke and Leia do not know their true parents until much later. The mother Leia recalls is Bail Organa's wife. Since Luke, Leia and Darth Vader all have the force, they can sense one another but since they are far apart, the sense is faint and unrecognizable at the time.

Oh, man. Who knows what when has been discussed and theorized a lot on the starwars.com message boards and other Star Wars forums.

In Return of the Jedi, when Leia talks about her mother, remembering the sadness in her eyes, Luke says he never knew his mother.

Leia's stepfather is Bail Organa. This has been supported in various Star Wars novels and is pretty obvious in that she uses the Organa name. Whether the mother she remembers is Padme Amidala or Bail Organa's wife is speculation. My guess is that it is Padme, judging from the sadness in her eyes (over Anakin succombing to the dark side). Nothing is ever said about Padme's fate, if she died or left or what.

During their lightsaber battle on the second Death Star, Vader realizes that Luke has a sister who could be turned if he can't turn Luke. Obviously Vader didn't know that Leia was his daughter, but the jury is still out if he knew about Luke at all. One would think that if he (and the Emperor) did, he would have found his son to raise and train in the dark side. My guess is that after Luke blew up the first Death Star, word spread of a hotshot pilot named Skywalker, and that's how Vader learned of Luke's existance.

Heck, there's even one theory that Obi-Wan didn't know about Leia. In Empire Strkes Back, when Luke leaves Dagobah, Obi-Wan says to Yoda "That boy is our last hope", and Yoda replies "no. There is another." Yoda was apparently referring to Leia, and what Obi-wan says seems to suggest that he didn't know about Leia.

I'm sure a lot will be explained in Episode 3 next year. The only hanging thread I can think that might remain would be the fate of Padme.

Oooooo! I hadn't thought about that quote from Yoda and that Obi-Wan might not know about Leia. I had always thought since Obi-wan was so close to Anakin he took care of Padme and the kids. Cool! Can't wait till next year!

It's going to be interesting, and if George Lucas can tie up a bunch of the threads, it'll make up for Jar Jar Binks. :teeth:

This is what I think happens near the end --

The few remaining jedi include Obi-Wan, Yoda, and maybe a couple of others, and it's been decided that the baby will be hidden from Vader and the Emperor on Tattooine. Immediately after Padme gives birth to Luke, Obi-Wan leaves with the baby, not realizing that Padme is carrying twins. Since Chewbacca will be in Ep 3, my guess is it's with his help, maybe even on the Millennium Falcon? This ties in with Obi-Wan finding Chewy on Tattooine in Ep 4; they already know each other and Obi-Wan sensed him there. Obi-Wan takes Luke to be raised by Owen and Beru, Anakin's stepbrother and his wife, while he lives in seclusion but close enough to keep tabs on Luke.

Meanwhile, Padme decides she will take her daughter and live on Alderaan, assuming the guise of members of the Organa family, and Bail adopts Leia as his daughter. Maybe Vader is lead to believe that Leia is the daughter of Padme and Bail, but I doubt this. It wouldn't make sense for Padme to take that high profile of a position and make a target of herself, her daughter, and Alderaan.

Maybe Padme dies in childbirth, but there's also been a rumor that Lucas has filmed a scene or two with Natalie Portman as Padme to be edited into ROTJ when Leia remembers her mother.

So you mean to tell me that all of those books that are out do not reveal this part of the story? Hmmm...interesting!

Ok, I have heard that Anakin and Obi-Wan "have it out" over what I do not know, and that Anakin falls into acid during their fight, I think? I am going to venture that Obi finds out that Anakin married Leia and then has him kicked out of the "program".

So I will take a guess that Anakin is saved by Palpatine and he grooms Anakin to be his sidekick for his cause.

Meanwhile as Anakin is brought back to life so to speak, Leia finds out she is pregnant and splits from Anakin because she knows he is now in the service of the dark side. She decides to give the babies up as she knows that Anakin will stop at nothing to get her back.

That is my theory, who knows what is going to happen!:teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

i figured, too, that with all those books out there that these questions were already answered!

awesome theories though...guess we'll have to wait to see what happens!!

I always thought that Obi-Wan was just being sexist :teeth: Can't girls be Jedis too? LOL

Actually, I think it was just a plot device so we could all spend a couple of years going, "WHO is the other?" (well, DUH - how many choices were there ;))

Dont count on it! Unfortunately George Lucas has lost the filmmaking talents he had back in the day. He has become so obsessed with the digital technology that he has lost his story...I know he specifically contradicts the orignal movies during episodes 1 and 2, it makes me mad...I LOVE the original trilogy....
