We just picked up the Kodak Zi8. It shoots 1080 @ 30fps. You can also shoot 720 at either 60fps or 30fps, and even lower quality like VGA. We just got it and charged it last weekend. We'll giving it a try at an outdoor night holiday event where our children will be singing this Friday. We leave for WDW a week later.
DH has played with it and you get better panning etc at 720 and 60fps, but if your scene isn't moving quickly, then 1080 should be cool. We don't own a HD TV yet so we can't see it on a big screen. We went mainly on reviews.
The other in its category is the Mino (also from Flip). And there was another that now does 1080 that he tried out and I can't remember the name.
Price range is about $150 - $180. We got ours during a
Best Buy sale for $150 + a free 4 GB SDHC card (2 speed rating). I bought two 8 GB SDHC (4 speed rating) at Costco last weekend. I get 100 free prints too, with the purchase of the cards.
We'll be juggling 5 kids, a DSLR and P&S. Also the kids will have our old Sony 2.1 MP P&S and 2 Kidzoom cameras. Kids are 7 & 9. Wanted to capture some video but didn't want to carry around our Sony circa 2000 video camera. Think we may not get ride footage, even the slow ones, but will love to look back on the post-ride excitement when they do the thrillers and when they have character interaction.
This is our first, and likely only trip to WDW. I think the Kodak will do us nicely.
