Need help finding a hotel close to Ctrl FL Fairgrounds

Can anyone recommend one? I got the name of a Howard Johnsons but the fairgrounds office says "I wouldn't stay there." She suggested the Kirkman Dr. area. Can anyone think of one that is closer to the fairgrounds in that area that is nice? Don't want to spend a fortune but I want something I'm not scared to take my shoes off in! LOL!

There are a number of fairly new, inexpensive hotels in the Kirkman/Major Blvd area (about 5-6 miles from the Fairgrounds) which are worth looking at. Try:

Red Roof Inn Universal (Major Blvd)
Hampton Inn Universal (Windhover Dr)
Extended Stay America (Major Blvd)
Quality Suiites Universal (Canada Ave)
Holiday Inn Universal Studios (Kirkman).

All should be in the $35-$65 range. Good luck!
