My DFIL passed away yesterday. :sad1: He wanted to have 1 day (tomorrow) at the funeral home and then be cremated. Does anyone know how I can explain this to my kids DD9 & DS6? They have been to a few funerals in the past 2 years and know we normally go to the cemetary right away. TIA

I'm bumping this up for you. I don't have an answer though, I'm sorry.

I am sorry for your loss. :guilty:

As far as your question, just be honest with your kids. I don't quite know what you are asking but my kids have been to many different funerals and it really doesn't matter what type it is. Just explain your FIL's wishes and let them ask the questions.

Sorry about your loss. No one knows your children better than you do so I think you have to use your judgement. Be honest and answer their questions but don't offer to much information. Let them know that you are there for them and should they need to know anything else you will gladly answer their questions. You probably need to let them know that people can be "buried" in different ways. My family are Native American and we are always creamated and our ashes are thrown to the four winds, and our spirit rises to the heavens.

Sorry for your families loss. I would just explain it to them. Some people wish to get buried others choose to be creamated. Be sure to let them know that his spirit was no longer in his body, and he didnt feel what happened. He didnt need his earthly body any longer. They are old enough to understand.
