Need help - Baby shower book instead of card poem

My SIL did the invitations for my baby shower and they included a poem about buying a book for the baby/new mommy and signing it instead of buying a card. My friend wants to use it for a shower she is throwing but none of us can remember it. I think part of it was "Cards are nice but books are better" but that is all I remember.
Can anyone help me?

Perhaps it is one of these:

"Although cards are nice ~ They're read once or twice
A book is a treasure ~ Forever and ever
So instead of a card to be put aside
Please give the baby a book with your name inside
It will be read to our little tyke ~ Before bed each night

As (Mother-to-be's name) due date is coming near,
We're inviting friends and family dear.
To choose a favorite story or fairy tale
That you would like Baby ________ to hear.
Instead of a card, please let (mother-to-be's name)look,
At your special choice of a book,
and then to Baby _________ she will read
With all the love a newborn will need.
So with a personal touch, please choose a book
And in it then your name do put.
It need not cost more than a card
Just pick a favorite, it shouldn't be hard.


I want to be a bright child
As smart as I can be.
That is why I'm hoping
My mom will read to me.
If you plan to bring a card
Please take another look,
I would like to learn my ABC's
From your favorite storybook.
Please sign your name
As your personal touch.

Or replace the last paragraph with the following:

Please add your name and a note
Then I'll know you've done your part.
Some day I'll surely thank you
From the bottom of my heart.


A card is nice, its sentiment sweet,
But a book will keep baby on her feet.
For years to come, baby will read
Longing for stories will never be a need.
A shelf full of wisdom for all to give,
For baby to keep as long as she shall live.
Filling the shelf should not be hard,
If you would please sign a book instead of a card.

I know this thread is old but I want to do this for my sisters co-ed baby shower.I have to be honest I really don't like the poems I've found.I just want to add a little note but saying, its just an idea, I don't want people to feel bad if they don't do it. At my baby shower(11 years ago) I got books as wishing well gifts as a request.I'm not sure if people do wishing wells anymore.Anyway the price of cards are crazy now and you can get a book for the same price even less second hand.So how do I say Just an idea but how about a baby book sighned by you instead of a greeting card? Our do I just say baby book wishing well?

People do still do wishing wells, so you could state simply a baby book wishing well on your invitation.
For my daughters shower I ordered invitations from Tiny Prints.com and I bought a matching card with this poem printed on it and included it in the invitations.

People were very receptive to it and she received books ranging from beautiful expensive childrens story books to simple Golden books.
