Need Help ASAP, VERY FRUSTRATED (shuttle lift off/DCL related)

Mods, please keep this on the CB, I am desperately looking for help. We leave soon and I just found out this lovely information. I posted this on the DCL boards as well, I just am looking for lots of help.

So, we were planning to go to KSC the day we get off the ship. It is the day the space shuttle is scheduled to launch. We were so excited, ordered our tickets and I just got them today.... WE CAN NOT ENTER KSC UNTIL 1:30!!!!! UGHHHH! I wanted a nice day there to explore. I have always wanted to go there and we won't be able to see very much. so, here is my question.... What in the world do we do from the time we leave the ship until we need to be there. We don't want to leave the immediate area because we know it is going to be crazy on the roads. Is Jetty park a public park? Can you go swimming there? WHere can we eat lunch (around 11?) Ughh.... FRUSTRATION! We don't really want to go to any "attraction".

I also may need a place to camp out for a while, in case it rains, or is too hot, where can we go to cool off, get out of the rain/sun?

Jetty Park is a public beach park. The problem with launch days--parking.

That is a popular venue as is anything on the space coast. I don't know when the launch time is--the earlier it is, the more imperative that you don't waste time at other activities.

Given the traffic that day--I would have a late breakfast or early lunch and get over to KSC. Worst case scenario you have to wait a bit in the parking lot at KSC. It sucks--but so would getting stuck in traffic and not getting to KSC.

You can hang out in Cocoa a bit--maybe go to Ron Jon Surf Shop to kill some time before lunch (there is a free parking garage at Cocoa Beach Surf Company adjacent to Ron Jon's).

Traffic will not be your friend on launch day. So plan carefully .

the shuttle is to lift off at 3:48 We can't arrive until 1:30. What time would you say we should head over to ksc? We will not be leaving the immediate area. Where is Ron Jons located?
