need good makeup coverage that won't break the bank

Hmmm . . . could you have a mild case of Roseacea? I do, and it's very common. My skin looks just like your description. If you do have it, you need a cream to treat that issue, not make-up to cover it up. You can see pictures or Roseacea online, but it might be worth a trip to the dermatologist. It's covered by insurance, and mine helped me a great deal -- and the products he has me using are in line pricewise with the good-quality drugstore stuff ($7.50 for a 14-oz bottle of moisturizer, $2.75 for a bar of special soap).

Another thing that helps me: A little bit of light colored self-tanner every 2-3 days. Not enough to really look "tan", but it evens out my skin tone.

Oh, and another vote for Garnier's BB cream. And a vote against Aveeno's tinted moisturizer, though I like their other products.

Just wanted to say, I have rosacea and have tried several creams and salves from the dermatologist and none work well for me. I am going to have to get light therapy, which is not cheap but should be more effective. And some of the warnings and reported side-effects of the Rx creams were kind of scary.

My skin has gotten so much worse recently with this pregnancy, and I am currently trying the BB cream from Garnier as a primer (with a mineral powder foundation) and am not really all that impressed. I have heard a few companies now make a CC cream - anyone try one of those?

thank you everyone!

I've learned quite a few things. Never heard of BB, but looks interesting, after I started reading about it. I'll have to try it.

I don't think I have Roseacea, but I have to go to Dermatologist for something else and I'll ask thanks.

I thought Bare Minerals was considered a very light coverage. I've heard so many good things I'll look into.

I'm going to check out alot of these. The Target and colorstay look good to try first.

I've never used self-tanner what kind would be good to try?
Thanks again.:)

I've been using the BB by Garnier, and I really like it. :) I never wear make up and the coverage is just enough to even out my skin tone. :)

I don't wear make up over it, so I can't comment on how it works as only a primer.

I've got skin similar. I suspect I've got Roseacea also, although we live in a dermatologist-free zone, so I haven't had it confirmed.

I've found that using alpha hydroxy cream at night helps enormously. It's OTC at Walgreens.

I like Clinique superbalanced makeup. It's more expensive than drug store brands, but stays on better for me.

I don't think Bare Minerals provides much coverage at all.

Amlactin?

My DS has used this daily for his acne (for the last three weeks) and it is really improved his skin. :)

Maybe I need to start using it, too!

Hello!

I want to add in my suggestion also. I highly recommend Revlon Color Stay! This makeup lasts all day. Stipple it onto your face with a moist makeup wedge for best application. The coverage plus the staying power can't be beat for the money, I've tried a LOT of foundations! Even high end, super expensive ones disappoint me, but this one never does.

Have fun picking one out :) And remember - if you try it and don't like it, you can always exchange it. When I was in college I worked at Walgreens and customers used to feel guilty exchanging makeup product that they already tried, but my advice is to take advantage of it! No risk shelling out 12 bucks to find a decent foundation that way :)

Does anyone that uses Garnier BB have fair skin? I'm a red-head and am fairly translucent in the winters. Looks like it just comes in 2 shades.

Thanks!

Anything specifically for those fair skinned folks? I am still milking my last Max Factor Lasting Performance...hasn't been made for years and years. I need something new as well!

I stepped into my first Ulta recently, and thought it seemed like fun...probably more fun without a 2yo in tow ; )

Max Factor Pan-stik makeup is great. You can only get it at Drugstore.com and I buy a lot when it is on sale. My last purchase came in around $5.00 a stik ( which is A LOT cheaper than anything else I have found )

Use it sparingly and blend it well with a sponge. Great coverage!

:) Another vote for Mary Kay here. I love, love love the liquid primer followed by her Day Radiance Makeup. I am very fair and very dry.

What I think has helped me the most is doing the 7 day Dove test. I used to use Ponds and other products to remove makeup--not any more I love the unscented Dove (it is pH balanced for skin unlike other soaps) and lather it on my face in the shower...so easy. It really helped with occasional pimples.

Now that I am 44 I also use Skinceuticals hydration gel and eye cream. A little goes a long way. 3 drops of the hydration gel and a tiny amount of eye cream on fingertips. I started using this last Feb daily. I am only on my third bottle of the gel and second jar of the eye cream. Because of this I don't mind spending a little extra.

I use a Clarsonic Mia every other day with a sensitive brush head.

When I got older, I actually switched to a tinted moisturizer instead of a regular makeup. It seems to help my skin as I wear it.

What I use is Walgreens alpha hydroxy face cream, the store brand that is 8 percent AHA. Great stuff.

Physicians Formula's green concealer works realy well at hiding my redness & Bare Minerals for my foundation.

Cardio and sunscreen. Heavier make up makes us look older.

Running/cardio helps reduce stress, makes you feel better and gets the blood flowing for glowing skin. Sunscreen will prevent further sun damage. Then moisturize more during the winter months. A BB cream will even things out. I use dr jarts but have tried loreal and garnier and I liked them both.

Attack the root cause of the issue. See a dermatologist if you are concerned or mention it at your yearly skin cancer exam.
