DH's high school jazz band is going to Japan in November and we are having a fundraising gala. There will be dinner, dancing, live jazz music, baskets and silent auctions. Two of my own kids are going.

Too many of the baskets so far are alcohol themed, then there are the typical restaurant gift certificates, car wash basket, candy....

I'm looking for either a basket or a cool item to raffle that would be very appealing to high schoolers, many whom are juniors and seniors. I don't really want to do gift certificates. I'm coming up short for ideas. I am currently looking into a droid of some sort. I don't want to spend more than about $60.00.

Most of the kids in the jazz band who would be purchasing raffle tickets are boys, although there are a few freshman girls.

Ideas please!

Ulta or Sephora
Do different like $10 cards for Starbucks, Dunkin Dougnuts, McDonald's
Do you have an arcade around that does gift cards?

Movie night basket: Dvds, popcorn, candy, blanket, soda/water bottles. Game night: mostly the same stuff but with board games/cards etc. The Gala I'm involved with will also have a fishing basket, garden basket, pool/summer fun basket, chocolate basket, coffee/tea basket. Someone always finds a chocolate shoe to auction off and that brings in a LOT of money for some reason.

If they are mostly boys....do you have a popular sports team around? Do a NFL, NCAA, NBA, NHL, etc. basket. Put a team t-shirt, hat, tervis mug of the team inside. If you call the team, maybe they will even throw in a couple of tickets!

Or how about a themed food basket - full of junk. They're teenagers. Fill a huge basket of different kinds of cookies, or Hostess, or most boys I know drink Mountain Dew - there are a bunch of different flavors/colors - arrange it in a rainbow of some sort??

Or, how about a mini-game basket. At Barnes and Noble they have little mini-golf, ping-pong, basketball, football, sumo wrestling, etc. games. They are about $7.00 each. A bunch of those in a basket (or a small table) might be different? I've given them to teen boys along with gift cards for gifts.

I was also going to suggest movie night basket.
Make up? Perfume? Body lotions?

I love the Japan themed basket idea.

Also, you could do a "geek" basket - Deadpool Pop figure, comic books, set of gaming dice, funky socks, a Doctor Who book/game/mug, etc.

Video game themed basket
Junk food themed basket
Candy basket
School spirit themed basket

Since they like music, what about concert tickets? (I know these can get expensive, but my DD just went to a popular country singer's concert at a college campus and tickets were only around $30).

It's a bit more than $60 but you can get a Bose Bluetooth wireless speaker for around $99 on Amazon (at least that's what I paid around XMas), that might be a great auction item. I have one and DD has one and everyone who sees them wants one. Maybe someone can donate one? Or a retailer might give you a fundraising discount?

We just did a fundraiser like this for HS and it worked out really well with several themed baskets and some other single auction items.

I've put together raffle baskets for numerous school events. A few that were popular:

Beach/summer theme: sunglasses, sunscreen, flip flops, swimming goggles, beach towel, frisbee

Make your own sundae kit: ice cream scoop, glass parfait dishes, syrup, nuts, sprinkles and other assorted toppings with a card saying "add your favorite ice cream".

Electronic accessories: headphones or earbuds, mini speakers, SD card or USB flashdrive, cell phone case, screen protector, charger cords, maybe an outlet adapter for use in Japan.

One big item could be a piece of sports equipment, maybe a skateboard or baseball glove. Or a video game.

I like the idea of something music/concert related.
That might really catch their attention and get the tickets going.

Since many are seniors, and this is for high schoolers... something Prom related?
How much is the cheapest limo/driver type transportation that you can find.
Would that bring in some profit, based on the number of ticket sales?

I am really of no help, because my son is the very basic down-home, type of guy.
Not the Jazz band and Prom type of guy.

Is there something that they need for this trip to Japan that they might want to win, so they might not have the expense?

I second the movie night basket. I've made those on a few occasions.

Perhaps a reading basket too? With one or two of the current "hot" teen novels, a sweet herbal tea, mug, blanket, some treats, a candle. I made a reading basket when I had my book launch, and the winner was very happy to receive it.

we did some concert tickets once and they were a hit. Except Taylor Swift is a little pricey these days

Students here attend fundraising events for their school, and most likely they are spending mom and dad's money not their own.
Kids in my district attend certain types of fundrasier events. Like a Battle of the Bands concert, for example. Not so much a basket bingo.

Do you think teenagers would go to a basket raffle, let alone be willing to spend money?

The teens who will be at this event will be performing-they are the kids going to Japan. I told my kids I will give them each only a certain amount for raffles. I know they will also pitch in some of their own money. Also, parents, grandparents may put tickets in a teen-themed basket for their child/grandchild.
