I will be having my first ever garage sale in May.

I have a few items that I am not sure how to price.

Little Tikes:
coupe car that has never been outside
slide/climber that has pracatically never been outside
buzzy bee mailbox
car with a stick for pushing, fairly beat up but still lots of life in it.

I checked out ebay for some ideas, but didn't get very far so I came here.

I want to get the "best" prices I can. I don't want to overprice or under price.

I also have a nice tricycle.

How about a nice car seat?

Any help would be appreciated.

I would put those on Craigslist....you will find people that are looking for these items and know how much they are in the store. Since they are in nice condition and assembled, you could probably start at 50%-60% off of retail.

Yard sales are more random, so you have to hope people looking for toddler toys come to your sale.....people don't want to pay more than $5 at a yard sale and you won't waste a Saturday haggling with people.

you can probably get about 1/2 of the value from CL.

I sold a trike for $10 on CL that no one looked at during the garage sale.

Your LT stuff will sell quickly.

How old is the carseat? Remember they expire after 6 years. I did sell a Britax Husky for $75 on CL, but I made sure to tell her over and over that it only had 2 years of life left in it. (her child was 4, so she was fine with that.)

I agree that you should put most of those items on Craigs List or be willing to accept a lot less for them. I personally wouldn't buy anything at a yard sale like that for more than $10, and $5 more likely.

I was at a yardsale on Saturday (very well attended community sale) and the one house had tons of really nice toddler toys out. I noticed a Dora backpack that my son played with at his old babysitter, so I went up to see it.....they wanted $10 for it :scared1: It sells for that at Target. I was willing to pay a $1 for it. They had trucks for $4-$5 each. I was wondering why they had such nice things left that late in the morning......now I know why. I walked down the street and got him a puzzle and book for $1 total that he was thrilled to pieces with.

How come all the good garage sales are so far away from me?? I've been trying to get DS2 one of those cars but couldn't justify the price when we lived in MI and he would only use it a couple months of the year. Now that we're here in SC and he could constantly use it, his birthday's not until Nov and by that time I think he'll be too big for it! :sad2: (he was supposed to get one for his birthday last year and someone commited to getting it so DH and I got him something else....well the other person's gift finally arrived and it was NOT what was agreed to.....ugh!).

I'd probably $10 for the car and maybe $15 for the other thing at a garage sale. I agree it's very hit and miss - you may have all single, childless people at your sale so even if it was just a dollar, it would do you no good! I'd try with CL personally that way if you don't get an offer you're happy with, you'll still have it for your sale.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the replies.

It will be a community garage sale so there should be a ton of people milling about.

I think I will price the LT stuff a little higher and if I don't get a good price I will try Craigslist.

I want to make enough money to buy some landscaping (nothing big) for my yard.

On Craigslist, I just sold a Cozy Coupe for $35 (it had been played with outside, but always stored inside), a training wheel bike for $10, a big wheel from Fisher Price for $15, the Large Little Tikes slide for $45...no way would I get those prices at my upcoming tag sale!!! Those items went very quickly.

Little Tikes sell like crazy in our area. I had a climber/slide thing outside the night before and listed it in the paper and people drove by and wanted it then. I had 5 cars at 7:30 am for a 9:00 sale! I sold it for $75.00 within a minute of opening the garage door. I had a Cozy Coupe that sold for $25.00. I even sold car seats for $10-20 (newer within 3 yrs old). I sold a sand box (dinasaur type) for $15.00, it wasn't in great condition.People in our area don't do Craig's List but Garage Sales are HOT!

I sold a step2 firetruck last year at a garage sale for about 60% off retail... it did not sell fast and my SIL kept saying lower the price... but it sold at my price...

I also sold 2 britax marathons bother under 4 years old for 50 each.... hmmm

good luck...

I would suggest trying it at your garage sale before you bother with Craigslist, unless you don't mind. Keep it at the price you want and don't go down until you are comfortable. At our garage sale a few weeks ago, everything went fast and most people didn't even ask to go down on price..but our prices were very reasonable. I think I had the same busy bee mailbox, with all the pieces, I sold it for $5. Good luck!

WOW! Thanks.

I was thinking about pricing the slide at $30, the cozy coupe at $15 and the mailbox at $7.

Maybe I should ask more for the slide and car? They are like brand new. I still have the piece of "mail" that goes with the slide and the keys for the car. I have all the pieces for the mailbox too.

Car seat $20 if really nice one

I found out I can put an ad in the local paper for free, so I am going to list those items in the ad. It is a community sale, so there will be ads and signs for that as well.

How much should I price a Pack N Play with a bassinet for? It comes in it's own case and includes a sheet. All in excellent condition.

What about a Baby Chrissy doll? I saw one on e-bay selling for almost $130 so far. That completely shocks me.

I'd put the LT coupe car, slide and buzzy bee mailbox on Craigslist. You will get so much more for them there than at a yard sale. Trust me!!! Like others have said that's where people look for that stuff and you don't want to spend a Saturday haggling people for something you know people will pay what you want for it somewhere else.

I put anything I know I can get a larger amount for on Craigslist and not bother with yard sales.
