You may all think I'm crazy, and I hope this doesn't get booted from this board! I am flying tomorrow for the first time in 17 years, due to an absolutely horrible fear of flying. I've decided it's time to conquer it!! I'm on these boards regularly and know how great you all are! I could really use some words of encouragement if you have a little time. I'll print them out and take it with me! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!

Just wondering if you have kids?

Having kids has caused me to do many things I would rather not do, and to look big and brave while doing them, so the kids would not be afraid to do them. I'm talking about things like killing spiders to riding Tower of Terror, Space Mountain and Rock n Roller coaster. DH bought me the t-shirt after Rock n Roller coaster which I proudly wear while telling everyone it goes from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. The kids were impressed! I've ridden RnR 3 times since. Be brave!!!!!! Also MIL(73) and FIL(75) were riding ToT.

Think of it this way, when your in Florida after a few short hours, it'll make it all seem worth it. My mother hates flying too, but if your going with someone who can be there for some support, then I'm sure you'll do fine.

It's safer then driving, at least you won't have to worry about road rage! Just sit back, close your eyes, relax, and think about being in the Happiest Place in the world in just a few hours!! Have a GREAT TRIP!!!!

What I do is pretend I'm on a bus (yeah I know its strange) but really, the ride is usually a smooth one . . .Take a book along or magazine to read . . .the time will fly (no pun intended) right by . . .Besides, you'll be going to the most happiest, magical place on Earth . . .You'll be fine, just be confident . . .you really can do this . . .geeze if I can do it, (and I'm the biggest baby) anyone can do it!!

My friends and their son regularly fly from Dallas to Los Angeles to visit grandpa. Anyway, on their 6th flight, their son finally got to sit in the window seat and was looking out as they began rolling down the runway...he started getting very excited and started exclaiming: "We're leaving the ground! We're flying! We're flying!"

No one is quite sure what he thought was going on the first 5 trips. Maybe he thought they were on a bus.

For reassurance:
In the United States, it's 22 times safer flying in a commercial jet than traveling by car, according to a 1993-95 study by the U.S. National Safety Council comparing accident fatalities per million passenger-miles traveled.

I'm not sure about comparisons with Dumbo. He's not a commercial jet.
