I need to get a free One Touch Ultra diabetes meter. There was a link on their website for a free one but it said I don't qualify

Anyone know of a link or a coupon for a free One Touch meter?

Here is the link for the free meter It's one per address per customer so if you have tried before it's possible you will not receive the meter.

If you are in serious need of a meter you should be able to ask your endocrinologist and they will assist you with getting a meter. Or you can buy a simple one at Target (one touch ultra mini meter runs about 9.96 at my local store)

Also the Sunday paper sometimes has 10.00 off meters and target usually has them for under 10.00.

Meters are pretty darn cheap. If you can't afford a meter, how in the world do you think you'll be able to afford the strips? The strips are a huge money sink.

My insurance covers the strips at 100%.

You're very lucky! A friend was being charged $50 for 50 - he found them on Amazon for $30 for 150 and now he doesn't go through insurance at all for them.

This is great advice!! Also check with your insurance company. I talked to a rep and they asked why I hadn't switched to the 'covered meter'. Turns out I got two meters free, a regular one and a travel one the size of a lip gloss, and my test strips are a straight $5 a month, no matter how often the doctor prescribes me to check my suger.

Never hurts to ask, in case. Oh and it works exactly like a one touch!!

The only reason why I have to me meter specific is because one touch is the only company who is contracted with minimed to link pumps together with the meter. But my father who is also a diabetic uses the cheap ones that I get free with couponing.

For that exact meter? It's important to be sure, because the meters are given away, but the strips are what adds up over time.

DH got his free meter when I called our insurance company to ask "what next" and they told me to run up to our local hospital and see the nurse, and she'd help us. Free meter, one-on-one (well, on-three, b/c DS and I went with DH) consult with the nurse, later on a covered-by-insurance private session about food, and then another session that we actually never went to.

My insurance stopped covering meters/strips a few years ago when you stopped needing a script to buy them. I used to use One Touch Ultra, but around here the strips cost $1.10 each! All stores are the same price. Wegman's grocery store introduced their own meters and had a coupon for a free one, and the strips come to 90 cents ea. Not a huge savings, but it adds up.

Our local hospital has a diabetese education program. They give you a meter for free and have scholarships available for people that can't afford to be seen otherwise.

The sad part about it is they have since stopped putting in the extra test strips with the new meters with One Touch. They've put in the Delica lancet device which I honestly have too many of those dang things. I'd rather have the 15 test strips.

I have actually had some success purchasing test strips on EBay. I only deal with sellers with a high rating, and of course, the items need to be in secured, unopened boxes. This has saved me a ton of money...

You might want to check out this link. Many states including NY require insurance companies to cover diabetes supplies even if a script is not needed.

With my insurance the supplies are not covered under my prescription plan, but are covered under my major medical plan. I pay for the supplies and then submit for reimbusement.

Kroger has meters and strips at a pretty good price, they are their own brand but Dh thinks they work just fine. Our co-pay is $10 and these are $9.99 retail for 50 or maybe 100 strips I can't remember.

I agree with an earlier poster that said check with your doctor. I've used meters for 20 years and have never bought one. My doctor gives me the one he wants me to use - whichever one works with the software he's using. He just gave me a new One Touch Verio at my last appointment. The strips are the big money cost though, even with insurance. No other alternative though. Need the meter and need to check several times a day.
