ROFR Discussion Thread

I would say the biggest downside (by far) is that you’re probably not going to have an easy time staying anywhere other than SSR, OKW, AKV, and maybe Aulani, after 2042. Once the giant SAP point sink of BWV is gone (along with BCV, BRV, HHI, and VB), it’s going to be even more fiercely competitive to get into the monorail resorts and I don’t expect them to have more than the patchiest available if you don’t book within seconds of the 7mo window opening.
I'm not sure this is going to be as bad as eeryone thinks.

Most points are fully-qualified---either because they are developer points, because they were gratuitously transferred, or because they are resale but predate restrictions. While the volume of restricted resale points at the existing O14 will grow, a bunch will be taken out of service when the '42 resorts close. So, while recent resale buyers are limited to the remaining O14, most owners even at O14 resorts will not be. Instead they will have access to whatever the '42s become, and those resorts are not going to sit idle for very long.

I think we are more pessimistic about this problem because recent resale buyers are over-represented in this group.

I don't think I'd want SSR for a parks heavy trip with a lot of rope dropping
Counterpoint: If you have a car, rope drop anywhere other than MK is easy to hit, and very reliable. For MK, it is no worse than the Crescent Lake resorts. SSR does have internal stops, but the internal loop is very efficient (much more so than OKW) and SSR is well-connected to arterial roads. In contrast, Crescent Lake resorts have the "joy" of Buena Vista Drive.

Am I understanding what you’re saying here…
Grandfathered points will never be restricted?
Meaning if you bought OKW resale in 2010, they will be able to use at LSL and anything else moving forward? (including BWV 2.0 or BCV 2.0)
Without question?

Without question? No. No one knows what the future holds.

But the current policy is: "If you purchased your Disney Vacation Club Membership from a third party after January 19, 2019, you will not be able to make Vacation Point reservations at some or all non-Home Resorts."

And as far as I know, they have applied that policy to all new associations at or after RIV. Could that change down the road? Yes. Will it? \begin{shrug} \end{shrug}.

The bus stops are never very far the building you're in, and if the buses are getting annoying, Uber or Lyft would work too - I didn't try it, but I assume Uber or Lyft could come right up the villa building you're staying in - that would be about as close to front door transportation as one could get.
Can anybody confirm this? If we could get a lift or minivan straight in front of our door, SSR would suddenly start looking more exciting.

I'm very glad I added on one night at SSR on to the end of our last trip. We're doing one night there again to start our trip in June (and the summer cash rates on a 1 BR there are super cheap - less than $15/point). Now that I know we would enjoy a stay here, as I look at how we're planning to spend points next year, having SSR as a back-up option to use less points actually feels somewhat attractive. It's probably not what I'm going to target first because the resorts closer to the parks do have much more appeal.

That said, I don't think I'd want SSR for a parks heavy trip with a lot of rope dropping or late nights. But, for a more casual stay, I think it definitely has its use. A car would help, but I could do SSR without one too. We use SSR to add days to our trips. Usually, it is based on what days flights are cheaper, bonus being extra disney days. We have ended up not really minding either SSR or OKW. Bus situation, stinks, but doable if you are not in a hurry.

Yep! The Lyft app has a drop down menu so you can chose the specific building you are in as the pick up location. I used it a couple of weeks ago and they literally picked me up at the elevator.

I think Uber has this feature as well but not used recently.

We use Lyft alot at WDW. Last I knew, it would not drop us at MK front. Did not try at other 3 parks. So, we chose to drop off/pick up at the Contemporary Resort front door area. But lyft dropped at front of BCV, BWV,BLT, & PRV. Dropped at the resort room/building at CB,PO,OKW, & SSR. We have used Lyft alot. Sometimes it is easier & worth the money at my age.

A mildly interesting month.

HHI/BRV: Seems like they must have needed them for a direct sale of some sort. Can't imagine we're going to be seeing any HHI or BRV "flash sales" anytime soon, but I guess you never know! 🤣

AKV/SSR: Not too surprising to see some activity there given the "flash sales" on those resorts. Will be interesting to see whether we see any BLT ROFRs anytime soon.

RIV: Seems like there continues to be some appetite to pick the right contracts up and flip them into direct. I'm guessing they match the right unit, perhaps one they've acquired through foreclosure and can combine to sell more points.

OKW/VGF: Usual suspects. No surprise there, although 17% of VGF contracts being bought back and 10% of OKW (2042) are noteworthy percentages.

Lyft and Uber are not the same experience as the Minnie Van service. Minnie Vans can access locations that traditional rideshare cannot, such as a designated MK drop off area or direct service to Pioneer Hall for Hoop Dee Doo. Minnie Vans also use the returning resort guest and bus entrances.

While Lyft and Uber drivers may say they will pick you up at a specific location, their familiarity with Disney property varies widely. It is not uncommon to get a driver who is unfamiliar with the layout, gets turned around, or confuses areas like the Yacht Club with the Yacht Club convention center.

Disney’s Minnie Van service removes that uncertainty. The drivers are Disney Cast Members with strong knowledge of the resorts so you get a much more consistent and reliable experience.

It also costs 2x as much. I find the best value is when going to MK.

My life and safety are worth twice the cost. I’ve had some very questionable drivers and ended up swearing off rideshare at WDW. If you have a child in a car seat, I personally wouldn’t trust anything other than a Minnie Van.

For me, the best option is staying at a MK resort and using a rental car to get everywhere else, but everyone has their own preferences.
