I have been asked too bring a dessert to a church function on Sunday - it is the graduation seniors banquet.

so - while brownies would be super easy to make...and I have everything for that - I think many people iwll bring brownines - cuz they are easy to make.

So - I am looking for other ideas. My "rule" nothing with berries - they just gross me out, and my car would smell -EWWW.

Any other ideas?

thanks!

lemon squares are really easy to make and so good!

I also have an easy recipe if you want it for a lemon bundt cake that is very tasty.

SOUTH CAROLINA CHEWS

Content Copyright © 2011 Cooks.com - All rights reserved.

1 stick butter
1 box light brown sugar
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts, chopped

Cream butter; add sugar, flour, salt and baking powder. Mix until crumbly. Add eggs, vanilla and nuts. Mix. Spread in a greased, floured 13 x 9 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Sprinkle powdered sugar over chews while warm. Cool, cut into squares.

This is my go-to recipe. Just be sure to cut them into rather small squares as they are rich. Sometimes I don't add the nuts but I do prefer them with.
Everyone will ask if they are brownies though so you might want to label them!

Seven layer (or magic bars as we call them) are yummy and easy

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE lemon squares. THey just seem like an "old-people's" dessert. Maybe because they are more work than brownies, and the "old-people" like me are the only ones that make them.

Course - if I did make lemon squares...I would probably need to sample one or two - just to makes ure they were of acceptable quality!;)

Lemonade Pie

1/2cup - 2/3 cup of presweetened lemonade powder (like Countrytime) (use 2/3 cup if you like tart lemonade, 1/2 cup if you just like it sweet)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 tub of Cool Whip (regular size)
1 graham cracker crust

Mix lemonade powder and sweetened condensed milk. Stirin Cool Whip. Pour into pie crust. Freeze for at least two hours. YUM.

I like to make chocolate dipped pretzel rods, they are so easy, everybody loves them and you don't see them allot because they are expensive to buy. You can get a whole container of the pretzels at Aldi for $3.99. If you want them to be pretty sprinkle with sprinkles before they cool on the wax paper then store them in the refrigerator. Keep them cool until you put them out to be eaten and don't worry about them melting, when I make them they are gone before they get a chance to melt. I usually do a box of strawberries for adults but those are out since you dislike them, but chocolate dipped orange slices are really good too.

I am a cook, not a baker...so I make these and they are TO DIE FOR! I make them, then pop the cupcake tins in the freezer for just a few minutes until good and set...then pop out and put in a plastic container. I keep frozen until leaving for the event (in the warm months). They are great when still cold, or at room temp. Also, I unwrap the pb cups ahead of time and put them in the freezer, they get less melty and are easier to handle when frozen and placing them into the hot cookie, don't over bake, and be sure to use non-stick pans (or spray them!).

I use this recipe, with the premade dough:

But here is a pic of what they look like, and a recipe made from scratch:

Does it have to be finger food and do you have access to a freezer before the event?

I ask because, when DH was our church's youth group leader, I used to make ice cream lasagna for our teenagers all the time which they loved.

One of my favorite compliments of all time is when one particular teenager who was often surly took one bite, actually smiled, and said, "Hey, this junk's good!" :thumbsup2

I've also made it for various potluck dinners.

Here's the recipe (such as it is...):

ICE CREAM LASAGNA

2-3 boxes of ice cream sandwiches
cool whip (or whipped cream)
chocolate syrup
peanuts (or pecans or walnuts)

Place a layer of the ice cream sandwiches on the bottom of a 13x9 dish.
Over the top of the ice cream sandwiches, drizzle chocolate syrup.
Next, sprinkle the nuts.
Spread the cool whip over the ice cream sandwiches, chocolate syrup, and nuts.
Repeat - layer of ice cream sandwiches, chocolate syrup drizzle, nuts, cool whip.
On the top of the last layer of cool whip, drizzle some chocolate syrup and sprinkle some chopped peanuts.

Freeze in the freezer until just before serving.

Ooh, ooh! Trifle goes over marvelously at church gatherings -- it's so,so easy and you make it ahead. Use your brownies and make this: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chocolate-Trifle/Detail.aspx.

Chocolate Trifle

Ingredients

1 (19.8 ounce) package brownie mix
1 (3.9 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
1/2 cup water
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 (1.5 ounce) bar chocolate candy

Directions

Prepare brownie mix according to package directions and cool completely. Cut into 1 inch squares.

In a large bowl, combine pudding mix, water and sweetened condensed milk. Mix until smooth, then fold in 8 ounces whipped topping until no streaks remain.

In a trifle bowl or glass serving dish, place half of the brownies, half of the pudding mixture and half of the 12 ounce container of whipped topping. Repeat layers. Shave chocolate onto top layer for garnish. Refrigerate 8 hours before serving.

Sorry, haven't read this whole thread so forgive me if this is there.

I love to make a fruit trifle. I know you said you don't like berries so just use other fruit.

Ingredients:

Angel food cake ( I buy the already made one from the grocery store)
Tub of whipped cream
Fruit

Put some cake on the bottom
layer of cool whip
layer of fruit
layer of cake
layer of cool whip
layer of fruit

You can also substiute pudding for the fruit.

"Not Yo' Mama's Banana Pudding."

Had to comment on the name here. I work in an office that occasionally has Reps come in and bring us "gifts" or ship things to us for Christmas ect. Normally the standard Mrs. Fields or Pep Farms holiday assortments of goodies.

Well one year we had a Rep mail us (out of the blue, wasn't even for a holiday) an assorted 6 pack of Smack Yo' Mama BBQ sauce! Just this afternoon one of my coworkers came into my office and asked if I remembered the name of that yummy BBQ sauce someone once gave us, reminding me of the interesting name so I thought it was funny seeing the name for this bread pudding.

BTW this recipe looks yummy!!!

OK, I could love these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do spiders a lot. Equal parts of choclate chips, butterscotch chips, peanuts and chinese noodles. Melt the chips together. Stir in the nuts and noodles. Cover a cookie sheet with wax paper. Take a teaspoon and plop the mixture onto the cookie sheet in single plops...sort of liek those cholate turtles that they sell in candy stores. Freeze. Once they are frozen you can take them off the cookie sheet and put them into a ziploc and into the freezer till you need them. Then just throw the wax paper away and you don't even have to wash the cookie sheet! ;)

They are really the easiest things and people LOVE them!
