Need couples vacation ideas

Thank you all for your replies and ideas. I keep trying to sit down and talk to dh so we can both brainstorm some ideas. I think I am leaning towards the idea of a tropical climate, but then again I may just be thinking this cause we are in the middle of winter, lol. We are not going until July so we have a little bit of time to decide. Any more ideas guys??

We did Toronto in July one year and had a great time! There's lots to see/do and all kinds of great ethnic restaurants. We did a ghost walk that was really fun (and kept me glued to DH the rest of the night which he really enjoyed!)

July? Somewhere in the Rockies. Maybe Vail, Jackson Hole, Durango, etc.

Something like this would be wonderful but I don't think Im ready to take that leap yet while leaving my kids in family's care. My kids are 13 and 15 I know that I probably sound like a crazy over protective mom, but in 2007 we left them in the care of my mil while we went to WDW and they were involved in a car accident. Since then it has been very hard for me to shake the feeling of helpless of when I got that phone call. I know that is probably silly but I just dont feel like I can go that far right now, silly huh??

I feel you! DH and I have our 10 year coming up and we have an apartment rented in Paris. I'm really nervous about leaving DS though, he'll be 15 and staying between our parents. DH doesn't get it but this is the kind of thing I worry about, what if they are in an accident or something and I can't get back quickly?

We've cruised without him though and someone pointed out to me that I could probably get home faster from Paris than a little Caribbean town, that makes sense and made me feel better!

What about going to Asheville? You could tour Biltmore and stay at the Grove Park Inn.

I second this idea. Colorado is beautiful in the summer. Denver is a great city to visit and there is so much to do in both Denver and the surrounding areas.

Lots of really cool ideas. I really had never thought of Colorado, we have never been anywhere out west. The farthest to the west I have ever been is Dallas, TX.

"I" liked the idea of NOLA but we used to live 3 hrs away so we went pretty frequently and DH wants to do something different. I love the feeling there.

I really feel like we can go anywhere at this point. I want to have this decided and locked down by the end of this month. I really appreciate all the idea and suggestions!!

It is tough to be a mom sometimes, lol. I'm not even sure what the kids will be doing while we go on this trip yet. Both my and Dh's mother live in Fl, my dh's brother and his wife live 45 mins from here, and they have offered to let the kiddos stay with them. I have thought about flying one of our moms in to stay with the kids, I have also thought about letting the kids go to Fl while we go. My mom has this nutty idea that the kids are going to spend the summer with her and I haven't broke the news that the kids don't want to stay the summer with her, not to mention that I don't really feel all that cool about them being gone for the summer. UGH!!

The suggestions about Asheville, I have thought about renting a little cabin around there, not sure that the hubs would like that though. We have friends in Knoxville, TN that we don't see very often and I really don't want to spend my anniversary vacay with them but I would feel like a butt if we went so close and didn't see them. I don't know??!??

We went here

http://www.secretsresorts.com/capri/

adults only all inclusive! It was awesome! We had a romantic dinner on the beach for just the 2 of us complete with a really nice bottle of wine and a sax player. It was perfect!!! It was a 4 hr flight and they took care of everything for us.

We went to California for our 10th anniversary and loved it. We started in San Fran where we rented a convertible. Then we drove down the coast to Monterey (BEAUTIFUL!). After a few days there, we drove into Yosemite for some hiking as site seeing. If you can go during the snow melt the waterfalls are AMAZING!! This was one of our favorite trips.

We have also done a similar trip in Colorado. A few days in each of Colorado Springs, Breckenridge, and Estes Park.

The Colorado trip is probably closer to the $3,000 budget, but driving the coast with to convertible down was very romantic and fun!

For our 25th Anniversary our family planned us a trip to Mackinac Island.
This is a wonderful place to visit. There are no cars on the island... only horses & bikes.

In the summer make sure you do stay in a lodging with A/C though as it gets warm.

We stayed at Mission Point which has beautiful grounds but no a/c. The Grand Hotel is swanky & would be a neat place to stay & there are lots of bed & breakfasts.

We rode bikes around the island & stopped for a picnic along the way, did a tour on a horse pulled buggy, dined at the Grand, shopped & went to the butterfly house. There are lots of fudge shops here as it is know for their Mackinac fudge. We toured the fort & just took life easy. The island is fairly small & you can eadily bike around the complete island. We rode around 2 times in one day.

We loved it!

In July you could take a 7 day cruise from Baltimore to Bahamas on Carnival for $2k total. And, of course, no airfare since you can easily drive to the port. So that would leave you $1k for excursions, drinks, gambling and souvenirs.

Personally, I love cruising. But dh and I also have taken a great vacation to LA. We're from CT. It was one of our best trips ever. We stayed right in the heart of Hollywood, rented a convertible. We did Long Beach, Santa Monica, LA/Hollywood nightlife, farmer's markets, amusements parks, you name it...it was awesome! :goodvibes

Hawaii is on the list, It is definitely one of our pricier options (mainly due to the airfare) but I would love it!

Europe is closer than Hawaii from VA.

The tropics in July will be less expensive but also quite warm. ;):beach:

NYC will be warm in July but lots to do. Shows, restaurants, sightseeing, sporting events, shopping, zoo, botanical gardens. 1400-1900 doesn't sound terrible price-wise, depending on what hotel you're staying at. Midtown Manhattan will be pricier. VA to NYC drive isn't bad...about 8 hours right? But that does take a chunk of time out of a 4 night trip. I'd probably bite the bullet and fly.

Boston...another great city with lots to do. You'd probably have to fly though...bit of a long drive from VA. You could fly to Boston then go to Cape Cod or Martha's Vineyard.

How about south of you? Savannah is supposed to be lovely..I have no idea how far it is from you in terms of travel time though. Charleston? Miami? Key West?

4 days is rough because you don't want travel time to eat up too much of the actual vacation time.

DH and I LOVE the Couples resorts chain in Jamaica. We've stayed at Couples Tower Isle and Couples Sans Souci. They run great email specials every Wednesday - go to their website and sign up for emails. The flight isn't much longer than flying to Orlando, but this tropical getaway is all about romance at resorts where there are no kids under 18 and couples only. Highly recommend it!

Priceline for hotels in NYC. 1/2 price broadway shied if you go to tckts booth in times sq and are flexible on shiws

Another vote for Kauai. We were there a few weeks ago. Love, love, love it.

My kids are 11 and 13, and we went away for our 20th anniversary this past October.
My rules were nowhere I couldn't drive home from. Even if it was a 20 hour drive-If something happened, there was no way I'd be an ocean away from my kids.
I fully admit to being a little paranoid about that, but whatever, we didn't have time to go very far away anyway, as we only had a few days.

We actually ended up going to Newport, RI (we're 10 min outside of NYC, 3.5 hours away from Newport) and it was so great!

Hilton Head is close enough for a 4 day, it's beachy, relaxing.
