Last night my computer was fine. I went home at lunch today and my wallpaper was on my screen and nothing else. No task bar. I cannot log into anything. I am able to get into Windows Task Manager. When I try to open anything thru there I get the following message: Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point SHCreateThreadREF could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll.

Can anyone help me? I am at work now and just hate the thought of not being able to log on all week-end. Does this sound like a virus problem????

Try to reboot and press F8, this should bring you into safe mode, maybe then you can check things out and see if you can run virus scan or spybot, alos if you are using windows XP you might want to see if you can go back to an older setting, it's called systems restore, you can restore your computer from a previous date. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks, I will go home and try. Kep your fingers crossed!

well. last year I was having all kinds of problems including some recently regarding my E-mail which I later found out had alot to do with my filters and safe guards etc. anyway last year my service povider could not even help me and I was required to pay about $ 30.00 to speak to microsoft in seattle only to have them suggest I put in the recovery CD that came with the computer when I purchased it and reset the computer to the manufactures specs like as in the date of purchase... this was upsetting at first but I soon realized thank goodness I only use this for personal reasons and not for buisness purposes. I was only really giving up all my e-mail addresses that I had compiled and would have to put them back in. well I did it and it worked great. got rid of all my bugs etc. so if you become desperate and want to save $ 30.00 you may want to do what I did. just put the disc in and follow the directions. and don't forget to put back your antivirus/spam and firewall security ASAP when finished and getting ready to get back onto the computer or you may just find yourself in a revolving door. good luck.

Did you by any chance just do a Windows update? I got the sme message on my DH's laptop this morning and I know that he did a Window's update this morning. I also searched the Internet to find a solution. I'm now waiting for my DH to come home to let me know where the start up disc is.

Good luck in getting your PC fixed.

I used to get these errors all the time with Windows NT4. I would just reinstall the service pack and everything would be fine.

I found a note on a forum written in French (Google translated it for me). There was a mention that Windows Hotfix KB834707 may have caused this issue.

They suggest uninstalling this Hotfix. As DCG suggested, you can boot into Safe Mode and then go to Add/Remove programs to remove this fix.

Microsoft auto updates came out recently. Sometimes, patches go bad.
