from his girlfriend. He has dropped hints that he is apparently spending a lot of money on her and she (being my DD) is frugal and wants to spend as little as possible while impressing him as much as possible. Any ideas?

Well, I have an 18yo son and I think anything homecooked would be good. If he still lives at home, she might want to go with sweets or some other sort of snack. My son is still at home and he loves getting goodies that he can have all to himself. If he's living out on his own, a homecooked meal would probably go over well.

My son also likes playing some of the online video games that require him to buy a subscription. If he likes one of those, she might be able to arrange that as a surprise. Even if she goes with the shortest (and therefore cheapest) subscription, the fact that she noticed would probably make an impression and it would certainly be something he would enjoy later.

Knit him a scarf or bake his favorite dessert with a sweet card.

How about a gift card. Boys that age are usually in to playing computer games or x-box games. There are gift cards for those games at Best Buy, etc. If he likes music, then an i-tunes gift card might be nice. In addition, she can bake something for him to make the gift more personal.

Do you have snow by you? (most of us do) anyway, she could make a huge heart or spray paint a message to him..send him on a scavenger hunt and have homemade treats/balloons waiting for him at the end. My DS would be thriiled ( if he had a GF) with even the smallest of gas gift cards. It wuld mean that the person knew exactly what he loves to do which is what would impress him more than anything.
She could take him to Steak and Shake, and they could split a shake or malted, followed by her renting his favorite movie and making a card. Maybe a poem about all the things they like to do or favorite places, inside jokes? DS would also say paintball, not sure if you have a indoor location near you. It doesn't SOUND romantic, but it is a guy thing and would show she is thinking of him if he likes that kind of thing.

My 18 yr old son would greatly appreciate those things listed here. Some other ideas would be the great fall back coupon idea, she could make coupons for him to cash in over the next few months, one would be wash his car (when the weather permits), a home cooked meal on the date of his choice.

Is he into sports, we have a farm baseball team here, tickets are less than $10 for lawn seats, due to go on sale soon, again give him a cute IOU, let him pick the date if need be.

How about a coupon for a picnic? Or even tickets for a local amusement park.

How about an invitation to what is normally a family event, camp out, etc.

One thing I do for my hubby is he loves to much on beef log and cheese, I purchase them, get out my trusty heart shape cookie cutter, cut the slices of meat and cheese into heart shapes and decorate a zip bag with hearts.

My son loves that I make a few for him as well.

Your daughter could have a few of her friends compose and give a cheer for him at an appropriate place and time of course. What about a homemade T with his fave subject?

OK out of ideas now.

You guys are just full of great ideas. I will let DD read this thread (when she finishes class tonight).

This might cost more than she'd like to spend but she could make him a fleece tie blanket of his favorite sports team. Usually Joanne Fabrics has fleece on sale. I have nephews around his age and they love their blankets I made them.
